QMake and pkg-config - qmake

I am using libqtermwidget in one of my Qt applications. It so happens that in version 0.8.0 of the library, some new features have been introduced, which are absent in 0.6.0 version.
Since libqtermwidget does not provide any version macros, I would like to use pkg-config to check its version, something like this, in qmake:

You should use $$system() to invoke pkg-config and to read stdout (if any). But let's program it in a bit more "generic" way:

Why Buildozer fails building an app using both Java 8 and 11?

I'm facing rather frustrating problem with Buildozer.
I'm building an app to be deployed on Android and the build is failing when I'm using Java 8:
> Failed to apply plugin 'com.android.internal.application'.
> Android Gradle plugin requires Java 11 to run. You are currently using Java 1.8.
You can try some of the following options:
- changing the IDE settings.
- changing the JAVA_HOME environment variable.
- changing `org.gradle.java.home` in `gradle.properties`.
This is quite self-explanatory so I switched to Java 11, then I got this error:

Web search about this error reveals that it's the wrong syntax for Java version used. In other words it requires Java version 8 in order to execute successfully. But 8 didn't work either.

I don't know what other debugging tools I should employ. Any pointers much appreciated.

Lua-openssl - all openssl submodules are nil

I'm trying to follow the instructions from the readme file here: https://github.com/zhaozg/lua-openssl
This is a basic program I'm running:

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
The version that comes with your system may not have yet the cipher module, or may be another binding for openssl.
Check the modules that your version has in the folder where lua openssl is located, in my system is in /usr/local/share/lua/5.1/openssl/, there is also a file outside the folder /usr/local/share/lua/5.1/openssl.lua and the shared object in /usr/local/lib/lua/5.1/_openssl.so but in yours it may vary.
Backup those files to another place just to make sure. Remove them and install the latest version with luarocks.
luarocks install openssl
Luarocks will probably install the new shared object in /usr/local/lib/lua/5.1/. If the name of the module installed has the version in the name like openssl_0_7_7_0-openssl.so rename it to openssl.so.

Why is cabal building these dependencies when they should be provided by nix when using `callCabal2Nix`?

If I manually generate the shell.nix file with cabal2nix --shell . > shell.nix then it works perfectly (Cabal does no building of libraries).
callCabal2nix runs the cabal2nix command without --shell. For a shell, you need to use the pkg.env attribute.
I recommend renaming renaming shell.nix to default.nix and writing a new shell.nix:
args#{...}: (import ./default.nix args).env
Side note: some resources may suggest lib.inNixShell and haskell.lib.shellAware, but they break down when the expression is used as a dependency. Doing it safely in a single file will be possible after Nix master is released, presumably Nix 2.4.

Change a RDoc template for generating Rails app documentation

I have just added some documentation to my Rails 3.2.13 app. I can generate the documentation just fine (running RDoc 3.12.2) by using a rake task:

First of all find where your templates are located:

Paperclip File Not Found Error

I just switched from a paperclip rails plugin to a paperclip gem. The project is a rails 2.3 application and I am using paperclip 2.7.2 gem.
I am getting the following odd error:
identify: unable to open image `file': No such file or directory # error/blob.c/OpenBlob/2617.
identify: no decode delegate for this image format `file' # error/constitute.c/ReadImage/544.
Seems like paperclip is looking for a file called 'file' but I am not sure why. I didn't change any of the code we had before. It used to work, all I did was upgrade to a newer version and use a gem over a plugin.
Any ideas?

The Paperclip.run command fails to replace the :file placeholder for some reason. I verified this by running the following on the commandline:
identify :file
Monkey patching the replacement by hand yields other errors where a similar thing happens.
Ok I managed to solve it.
It was a problem with Cocaine. Seems paperclip has a dependency on cocaine that only says it must be Cociane > 0.02. The latest version of Cocaine 0.4.2 (at the time of this writing) has a new API which is not backward compatible. You need to downgrade to Cocaine 0.3.2.
Simply put this in your Gemfile before paperclip:
gem "cocaine", "0.3.2"
