I am trying to build a Query to sort through different staff training reports. I am able to display all "Completed" certifications from staff, however, I would also like the query to be dynamic, and only display data, if it matches the name, entered into the "search key" cell so that individual staff can be viewed.
I've tried using this formula,
=query(Data!A1:E50,select A,B,C,D,E where E="Completed" and A='"&$B$2&"',0")")
however, it returns #ERROR!. In this case, B2 would be the search box where you can select the Staff's name.
Here's a link.

Any help?
correct syntax would be:
=QUERY(Data!A1:E19, "select A,B,C,D,E where E='Completed' and A='"&$B$1&"'", 0)
for caps insensitive search it would be:
=QUERY(Data!A1:E19, "select A,B,C,D,E where E='Completed' and lower(A)='"&LOWER(B1)&"'", 0)

so basically I have a searchbox in my sheet that searches and pulls up data. For a reference see this image: https://i.imgur.com/MVTUCSw.png. So basically in cell A4 I put the data that I am looking for, but my formula restricts me to only looking up stuff in 1 row. For example, data starting with the word MELD, but I would like to be able to also look up data based on for example the someone their name.
The formula I use for the searchbox: =QUERY({'Pallets & Locaties'!A2:G;Voorraadverschillen!A2:G}, "SELECT * WHERE Col1 "&Opzoeken!B4&" '"&A4&"'")
The data that I want to be able to look up is stored in 2 sheets: Pallets & Locaties - https://i.imgur.com/qV7h2tz.png and in Voorraadverschillen - https://i.imgur.com/foqLkKa.png.
The searchbox is only able to lookup data in row, but I just want to be able to search for any kind of stored data in any of the sheets.
Here is my sheet for reference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10wmnxV16JUiD_b_54abkiLPwTqLITWRcUw3gsqvXoBE/edit?usp=sharing
I'd recommend you add more rows for the lookup criteria and add a column for what column it would search for.
Sheet modification:
Formula:
=QUERY({'Pallets & Locaties'!A2:G;Voorraadverschillen!A2:G}, "SELECT * WHERE "&TEXTJOIN(" AND ", TRUE, ARRAYFORMULA(IF(ISBLANK(A4:A10), "", A4:A10&" "&B4:B10&" '"&C4:C10&"'"))))
Test Sheet
Note:
The above formula will allow you to search on other columns with their own words and criteria to search.
Only rows with Kolom values will be included in the criteria. If you only need Col1 criteria, make sure to leave other rows blank.
This does use an AND search, meaning all of the criteria should be true and match the row. Feel free to use OR in the TEXTJOIN function if you only want to search all rows matching any of the criteria.
This will only search on sheets Pallets & Locaties and Voorraadverschillen. Add the necessary sheets if you need them.
EDIT:
Cleaned up the formula to not be so repetitive.
=IF(A4<>"",(QUERY({'Pallets & Locaties'!A2:G;Voorraadverschillen!A2:G},"Select * WHERE "&textjoin(" OR ", true, arrayformula("Col"&ROW(1:7)&" "&B4&" '"&A4&"'")))),(QUERY({'Pallets & Locaties'!A2:G;Voorraadverschillen!A2:G},"Select * WHERE Col1 IS NOT NULL")))
This searches every column for the data, as long as data is not identical in two columns you won't have issues. An example would be the search criteria "MELD" being in both Column A and B. If that were the case, only the results from the first matching column would populate.
I have a list of email addresses in one sheet (first column).
I have a list of transactions in another sheet with emails and sale amounts.
I am looking for a formula that adds up all the transaction $ sales for any transactions made by the people (emails) in the first sheet.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Your sample data is very limited (only one row matching one person, in fact). But the following formula should work for you. Place it in a new sheet, in cell A1:
=ArrayFormula(IFERROR({"Name","Total"; QUERY(FILTER(Transactions!A2:D,NOT(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(Transactions!A2:A,Tags!A:A,1,FALSE)))),"Select Col2, SUM(Col4) GROUP BY Col2 ORDER BY Col2 LABEL SUM(Col4) '' ")},"No Data"))
This one formula will produce the headers (which you can change within the formula itself as desired) and all results.
FILTER filters in only 'Transactions' data (names through amounts) where the emails are found in the 'Tags' sheet.
Then QUERY returns the name and totals for each match in alphabetical order by name.
If there are no matches, "No Data" will show instead.
If I understood your question correctly!
Try this on the sheet, where you only have emails and wanted to get sum of sales amount
=sumifs(range_whichHasTransaction , range_of_Email_inThat_TransactionsTable , Cell_Reference_ofEmail_forWhich_you_want_sum_the_Transaction_Amount)
it will Look something like this:-
sumifs(TransactionSheet!B:B,TransactionSheet!A:A,Emails!A2)

I'm working on a different Google Sheets spreadsheet to input data (film details such as English Title, Original Title, Release Date, Rating, Country of Origin and a Link), while on the one I'm analyzing the data I managed to use importrange successfully.
Here is the code I used successfully in order to get the average rating of a country's list of movies:
=AVERAGE(IMPORTRANGE("LINK_TO_INPUT_DATA_GOOGLE_SHEETS", CONCAT(A1:A, "!D1:D")))
This average is outputted to column C, while the name of the Country (which is also the name of the sheet for importrange) is in Column A.
I want to create a similar query but for movies that have the Country of Origin matching the Country from Column A (Any movie that has multiple countries of origin are inputted with the first one in the spreadsheet and copied over in all the other countries of origin's respective sheets).
I tried using the QUERY from Google Sheets to make my resultset, but in the best case scenario, it gives the same result as the previous average, while in the worst case scenario it just gives out errors. Here is my latest attempt at the query:
=AVERAGE(QUERY (IMPORTRANGE("LINK_TO_INPUT_DATA_GOOGLE_SHEETS", A1:A), "SELECT Col4 WHERE Col5="&A1&""))
As far as I can tell, this should work, but at the moment it says it cannot find the range or sheet for the imported range.
Any help is deeply appreciated!
EDIT:
Here's a link of the input sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bopmJu7Av71sCh8iUoG20WubGL9ssx09dOnBZnys4Ko/edit?usp=sharing
Here's a link of the analysis spreadsheet (the query should be in the MOVIES sheet):

I am not sure If I got you right:
- you want: import the average of the ratings (column 4) by movie title (column 1) where the country matches your current column A?
If so it can simply done with queries, especially if you include the average in the query as well. But you need to include all columns you use in the importrange:
=QUERY(IMPORTRANGE("https://...", "Syria!A1:E"),"SELECT AVG(Col4) WHERE Col5='"&A2&"' LABEL AVG(Col4) ''")
Explanation: group by will aggregate all columns by the column you declared as being used as average.
this is the correct syntax:
=AVERAGE(QUERY(IMPORTRANGE("ID_OR_URL"; "Sheet1!A1:A"); "SELECT Col4 WHERE Col5='"&A1&"'"; 0))
I have 2 sheets
people sheet has
[company first_name last_name full_name address_line1 address_city address_state address_zip address_country telephone email order_id order_date order_time processor order_type order_currency commission campaign_id]
sales sheet has
[DATE PROSPECT NAME EMAIL ADDRESS CONTACT METHOD PRODUCT RESULT NOTES ]
How do I make the report to generate when people.email = sales.EMAIL ADDRESS and display the records only if they match (Not all of sales sheet)
Report fields are
full_name
EMAIL ADDRESS

Please try to use basic formula for joining sheets + query to skip some rows.
Basic formula:
=FILTER({Sales!B14:B,Sales!C14:C,Sales!E14:E, vlookup(Sales!E14:E,{People!B2:B,People!D2:D},2,), Sales!F14:F},Sales!A14:A<>"")
The formula you need:
=QUERY(FILTER({Sales!B14:B,Sales!C14:C,Sales!E14:E, IFERROR(vlookup(Sales!E14:E,{People!B2:B,People!D2:D},2,), "do not show"), Sales!F14:F},Sales!A14:A<>""),"select * where Col4 <> 'do not show'")
How it works
It uses iferror(expression, "do not show") to replace #N/A error with the text "do not show".
Then it uses query to hide rows with value "do not show":
"select * where Col4 <> 'do not show'"
Basic formula and the question is here
Notes about usage:
Sales!B14:B,Sales!C14:C,Sales!E14:E are some columns you need to select first
IFERROR(vlookup(Sales!E14:E,{People!B2:B,People!D2:D},2,) will return column from "People", it is column People!D2:D. Please note that columns Sales!E14:E and People!B2:B are both containing a key, in the sample it is e-mail list.
Sales!F14:F is a column to return next.
filter condition Sales!A14:A<>"" is to skip empty rows from original sheet. You may also add other conditions into a filter.
query part will shorten the report and skip values where keys (emails) do not match. You may add other conditions into a query.
Note. Query language in Google Sheets does not have joins, and provided solution is a workaround. It shows how to make a join with a help of vlookup function in Sheets.
The provided formula gathers rows from sheet "Sales" and makes vlookup to sheet "People". You also may want to make vice-versa report: collect data from "People" and 'vlookup` data from "Sales".
"Vice-versa" report:
=QUERY(FILTER({vlookup(People!B2:B ,{Sales!E14:E, Sales!B14:B, Sales!C14:C, Sales!E14:E},{2, 3, 4},), People!B2:B, IFERROR(vlookup(People!B2:B ,{Sales!E14:E, Sales!F14:F},2,),100500)},People!A2:A<>""),"select * where Col5 <> 100500")
note! In this formula used numeric value 100500 to skip values because query works with the single data type (number or text).
Please comment here if you have any questions about how it works.
I'm trying to make a database of students using Google Sheets. It contains info about students, groups and orders; orders can change students membership in groups (taken in a group, moved up to a new group, graduated, on leave, sent down). Here are sample database sheets and here is a detailed description of my DB structure (the sheet report_Groups is slightly changed, its previous variant, described on the link, is now named old_report_Groups).
I need a query that would select a list of present members of given group on the given date. That means that for each student I have to select
the name, the latter status before given date and corresponding group. And from this result select student names, where statuses are "Taken in" or "Moved Up" and group is the same as given one.
The problem is to select the latter status. It should be MAX(status), whose "since" date ≤ given date, but there's a well-known problem of selecting more than one field together with aggregate function. Here is a question which is very close to, but query from its "best" answer gives me error "QUERY:NO_COLUMN". I've even copied the sheet Raw from there and tried to perform proposed query (with the onliest modification — replacing commas with semicolons according to my locale restrictions) on the data it was reported to work on — same error (check Raw and report_Raw sheets in my DB). Other variant (via MMULT and TRANSPOSE) works, but it's perfomance is very poor.
What can you suggest me? Thanks in advance.
Update: I've found the solution with an issue (described in my answer).
To solve the issue I need to know an answer for a different question.
Here's the solution (with an issue described below).
A. Orders_Students is filtered for selecting rows, having "since" cell value ≤ given date (report_Groups!A2):
=QUERY(Orders_Students!B:E;"select E, B, C, D where E <= date '" & TEXT(report_Groups!A2;"yyyy-MM-dd") & "'";1)
This interim result is stored at the inner_report_Groups tab (it will be referenced few times in the next query).
B. inner_report_Groups is filtered for selecting MAX("since") values and corresponding row cell values for each student:
ARRAYFORMULA(VLOOKUP(QUERY({ROW(inner_report_Groups!A$2:A)\SORT(inner_report_Groups!A$2:D)};"select max(Col1) group by Col3 label max(Col1)''";0);{ROW(inner_report_Groups!A$2:A)\SORT(inner_report_Groups!A$2:D)};{3\4\5};0)
The formula above is used as inner query in report_Groups!D2 (also in D3, D4—with appropriate indeces).
C. The second query result is filtered to get students whose status is either "Taken in" or "Moved Up" and corresponding group is equal to the given group (report_Groups!B2 (also in B3, B4—with appropriate indeces)):
=TRANSPOSE(IFERROR(QUERY(<here is the formula from step B>);"select Col1 where Col3 = '" & B2 & "' and (Col2='Taken in' or Col2='Moved Up')";0)))
The formula above is used as outer query in report_Groups!D2 (also in D3, D4—with appropriate indeces). IFERROR is intended to display nothing if query result is #N/A.
That query displays the needed results as you can see in report_Groups tab. But as the query on step B searches the whole columns of inner_report_Groups, there's only a single given date can be analysed (or the query interim results for other given dates should be placed in different columns of inner_report_Groups or at the different tab. Is there any way to give an alias for an interim result to refer it in a single cell formula instead of keeping it on different tab?
