How to fix Xcode error: Could not locate device support files on iPhone with Xcode
(8 answers)
Closed 4 years ago.
I got following error in Xcode when run my app in my Device. Xcode Version is 10.01, My Device iOS Version 12.2 (iPhone 5S).
Could not locate device support files.
You need to update your Xcode to the latest version. You can use this link.
OR
You can download latest iOS device support file from this github repository and copy the folder to this path of your current Xcode:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/
Now after restarting your Xcode, it should work fine.
You can get the latest device support files here:
iOS 13.6
iOS 14.0 (From Xcode 12 beta 4)
for iOS 12.2 you need Xcode 10.2 beta 2 and if you don't want to download new xcode then you need to manually download device support files.
You can download 12.2 simulator from here and paste this folder at this path.
Donload simulator : Simulators
Simulator Path :
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/
After doing this you will able to run in your 12.2 device.
Well, you should update your Xcode to latest version to support running it on your iOS Device.
From overView here, it supports upto iOS 12.1:
Xcode 10.1 includes SDKs for iOS 12.1, watchOS 5.1, macOS 10.14.1, and tvOS 12.1. Xcode 10.1 supports on-device debugging for iOS 8 and later, tvOS 9 and later, and watchOS 2 and later. Xcode 10.1 requires a Mac running macOS 10.13.6 or later.
You can read release not here and can download Xcode 10.2 beta version here
Hope it helps.

Xcode 12.4 “Unsupported OS version” after iPhone iOS update 14.7
(8 answers)
Closed 1 year ago.
I have MacBook Air 2012 on MacOs Mojave with the latest version of MacOs I can install being Catalina. The latest version of Xcode that Catalina supports is Xcode 12.4, which only can build for iOS 14.4 and older. But my iPhone has iOS 14.7 and I can't downgrade it. Is it possible to build for iOS 14.7 with Xcode 12.4 or, better, Xcode 11.3 since I use Mojave?
Using simulator is not an option because I need to access bluetooth.
Thanks
Yes. You can use iOS 14.7 on Xcode 12.4. You only need to add device support file in Xcode for iOS 14.7.
You need to add device support file from this link
I have installed Xcode 11 GM and can't find iOS 12.4.1 simulator anymore. iOS 12.4.1 was installed in Xcode 10.3, but it is not available in Xcode 11 for some reason (not only iOS 12.4 - other simulators are also missing). Moreover, I can't download it via "Add Additional Simulators..." - the latest one available is 12.2. Any ideas why so and how to fix? 🤔
Thanks!
iOS 12.4 simulator files can be found in the Xcode 10.3 app bundle. While you can't download it from within Xcode (at the moment), you can simply copy them to the folder where additional simulators are usually installed. Go to the following subfolder, it is located inside Xcode.app (10.3):
Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/Library/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes
and copy the iOS.simruntime package to here:
/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes
Rename iOS.simruntime to iOS 12.4.simruntime.
Restart Xcode 11.
The 12.4 simulator is now available (in Xcode 11.1 at least):
I am using Xcode (Version 9.0 (9A235)), and when I tried to run my app on my iPhone, I am getting this error.
This iPhone is running iOS 12.0 (16A366), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.
I can't update my Xcode due to an incompatible version of macOS.
Any other solution?
You need to use xcode 10 for ios version 12.0.
Download files based in your iPhone Model IN HERE
1 - Open directory:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
3 - Create new folder "12.0 (16A366)" depends on what exactly are you missing
4 - Paste the OTA Files Uncompressed
6 - Restart Xcode
iOS 12 is only supported by the beta of Xcode 10 or higher.
If you want to use your iPhone 8 with this iOS version (NOT RECOMMENDED) with your Xcode 9.4 you can try to download the last beta of Xcode 10 and after connecting the iPhone to the mac go to this folder:
/Applications/Xcode10.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
You can see the iOS version folder of the iPhone, copy and past it to the same location in your Xcode 9.4 folder.
After this you should be able to deploy to your iPhone 8.
Download (16A366) file from this link and paste at /Applications/Xcode10.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
Link to Download file (16A366)
I'm using Xcode 9.2 with Sierra 10.3.3 . And my iPhone 6 is with 11.3.1 (15E302). I'm unable to use my iPhone 6 for the test purpose of my IOS apps. Because, the Xcode says, Could not locate device support files. This iPhone 6 is running iOS 11.3.1 (15E302), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.
Please help me if anyone have the device support for 11.3.1 (15E302)
Thanks
You need to update to Xcode 9.3.
Another option is to download the 11.3 device support
iOS 11.3
Remove "(15E217)" from folder name, so it became "11.3". Restart Xcode.
You need to upgrade your xcode version to make the app capable to run in that version of iPhone , or you can get the support files form Here and put in this path ( after unZip )
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
Xcode 9.2 only supports up to iOS 11.2
Update Xcode
This iPhone 8 (Model A1863, A1905, A1906, A1907) is running iOS 12.0 (16A5308e), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode. (Version 9.4.1 (9F2000))
can anyone help with iOS 12.x device support files from Xcode 10 beta?
iOS 12 is only supported by the beta of Xcode 10 or higher.
As answered by #Kerberos you can copy the iOS 12 device support files to:
/Applications/Xcode10.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport
👉 https://github.com/Yatko/iOS-device-support-files
The link provided by Yatko is not supporting the newest iOS 12 versions (public release).
This repository has more iOS versions to offer: https://github.com/iGhibli/iOS-DeviceSupport
Copy the files to the same path as described by Kerberos.
Another convenient way to achieve this without downloading Xcode 10.
https://github.com/sauravexodus/xcode-9-ios-12-support
Note: If you have multiple Xcode versions then be careful with the path written in install.sh file.
Just download latest OS SDK (iOS 12.2) and paste it on respective location.

Follow below step.

2) Right click on Xcode and click on Show Package Content
3) Then paste your file on path
Contents -> Developer -> Platforms -> iPhoneOS.platforms -> DeviceSupport
4) Restart Xcode
Is it very convenient, saving the trouble of updating Xcode. what? You can't find a new Device Support file! Ok, you can copy it out from your friend's latest Xcode, or download from here
