In the below linked g sheet, i am trying to reference the datasource on the left.
Whereby there is a list of vehicle registration numbers on the left and a date range across the top withe the driver name used as the value.
Table 1 refers to where i am trying to then view which vehicle each driver used on each day. (I have input the results to help with the explaination.
My attempts started with this in O6 =INDEX(B6:K15,MATCH(M6,A4:A15,1),MATCH(O3,A5:K5,1))
Does anyone have any suggestions? Please?

This should work:
=INDEX($A$6:$A$15,MATCH($M6,OFFSET($A$6:$A$15,0,MATCH(O$3,$B$5:$K$5,0)),0))
Explanation
The MATCH(O$3,$B$5:$K$5,0) part is figuring out what column the date is in and returning the index number in relation to the table's range.
That is contained inside OFFSET($A$6:$A$15,0,MATCH(O$3,$B$5:$K$5,0)) which is getting a reference to the column of driver names on that date. It does this by taking the table's first column, and offsetting it by the index we found in step 1.
Then that is contained in MATCH($M6,OFFSET($A$6:$A$15,0,MATCH(O$3,$B$5:$K$5,0)). This is using that column reference from step 2, looking for the row containing the driver name we're interested in, and returning that row's index.
Finally you have that complete formula. It's a simple Index/Match which takes the range in the first column which contains the list of vehicles, and returns the value at the row index we found in step 3.

I have a table with names on the left and corresponding work schedules to the right. I've created a separate table with some of those same names and want it to automatically fill in the corresponding work schedule for that person. Seemed simple but I'm very stuck. My level of experience with Google Sheets is what is stopping me from solving this.
Example Tables:
In the attached picture the table on the top is the original (hardcoded) data. The table on the bottom is where I want the schedule data to be automatically produced based on the name on the left. The fields with #N/A and #ERROR! are both failed formulas I tried. #N/A should have returned B7:G7. #ERROR! should have returned B4:G4.
I tried the 'LOOKUP' function with ARRAYFORMULA(INDEX) hoping to have it look up the value in the column and input the work schedule data that corresponds.
=LOOKUP("Clair",A1:A9,ARRAYFORMULA(INDEX(B1:G9)))
yielded an #N/A.
Started trying to use =If(REGEXMATCH(A13:A21,"Clair"),... ...) but the '... ...' shows where my intellectual limits are at the moment. I couldn't finish it because I think it's the wrong formula to use.
Something like this maybe?
Remove everthing in B13:G17, and put this formula in B13

BYROW() work with an array row by row, the given data A13:A17 has only 1 column, which is the name of staff as lookup value.

I am trying to create a new worksheet in a Google Sheets doc where I need to filter a Master data set based on values in a specific column.
I originally did a VLOOKUP in each specific column that I wanted returned but it brough back blank rows for the corresponding rows that did not match, and eventually it broke for some reason and stopped returning the correct data.
I have been trying to find a new way to do it and have most recently been trying XLOOKUP, but it returns duplicate rows of each correct match.
The original datasheet is mostly populated itself by VLOOKUPS, drawing in information from other trackers so I feel this must be why it is falling over.
The dataset looks roughly like this:

There are 40+columns in the tracker but I basically want to have a new sheet where I filter and return only the 'Y' values in the Y/N column, and return columns A:N (including the ID column) without leaving blank rows between the matches, and without returning dupllicates.
I have tried everything I can think of but I just cannot make it work, so any help on the matter would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've created a form to collect data from user A in a sheet and reformat it for user B in the other sheet.
I have to sort the data for user B. I'm using vlookup to sort the column of values from the form to a new sheet (sort based on the order of the 'value description column'). It's working.
My problem is that when a new column is added to the first sheet (the form) the column range is modified and the index parameter in vlookup is not good anymore. So I lost everything on my second sheet.
How can I do to have a solid link with the column in the first sheet even if it's position change?
you can make use of INDIRECT with COUNTA and SUBSTITUTE. something like:
=INDIRECT("Sheet1!A1:"&SUBSTITUTE(ADDRESS(1, COUNTA(Sheet1!1:1), 4), 1, "")
this will count non-empty cells in row 1 of Sheet1 and converts that number to later which is used in constructing the range put together by indirect formula and all of it can be placed in vlookup as same as you would place any ther regular range.
I have a spreadsheet where I have data from a bank account. Each bank transaction has a date and an indication if that transaction is already done or if it's just expected. When it's already done, it must be added to the total balance up to date. If not, then the total balance up to date must be blank. I need to autofilter the data, so I can filter and order it depending on date or other conditions, that's why I've been using this formula:
=IF(D3="Y";B3+INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW()-1;COLUMN()));"")
Problem here is that when the cell above is blank, total sum resets and it starts from the value of that transaction. I need a formula that ignores the upper blank cells, and sums all cells above that are not blank plus the amount of that transaction.
Besides, once I change the "N" in "Done" Column to a "Y" I need the formula to update and show the correct balance.

Ok I THINK I understand what your going for - please let me know if I am confused, but I added an example on your sheet.... basically what I ended up doing was including one of your conditionals, but then also adding another function to exclude the blank rows by way of filter , index and counta It looks more complicated than it is because I nested it all back into one formula:

To work it from the inside out - the way I am excluding the blank rows is by using FILTER to get all the rows from the first row with a value ( Like A2 in your example) and using INDIRECT and ADDRESS to end the array I want to include exactly one cell above the current cell.
Then I use the condition that the range I built has a number value in it, there fore excluding the blanks.
In order to get the last value available, I use COUNTA to find out the total rows in the filter, then wrap the formula with INDEX to use the counta value as the row to return (which automatically is the last row available above the current cell)
Try this in A3 and copy down:
=IF(D3="Y";B3+INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW()-1;COLUMN()));A2+0)
If you want to display the "N" rows as blank, add a column (B) fill in the header and the starting number (5000) then put this in B3:
=if(E3="N";"";A3)
Copy it down then hide column A.
I am trying to use the INDEX() formula inside an ARRAYFORMULA(). As a simple (non-sense) example, with 4 elements in column A, I expected that the following array formula entered in B1 would display all four elements from A in column B:
=ARRAYFORMULA(INDEX($A$1:$A$4,ROW($A$1:$A$4)))
However, this only fills field B1 with a the value found in A1.
When I enter
=ARRAYFORMULA(ROW($A$1:$A$4))
in B1, then I do see all numbers 1 to 4 appear in column B. Why does my first array formula not expand similar like the second one does?
The INDEX function is one that does not support "iteration" over an array if an array is used as one of its arguments. There is no documentation of this that I know of; it simply is what it is. So the second argument will always default to the first element of the array, which is ROW(A1).
One clumsy workaround to achieve what you require relies on a second adjacent column existing next to the source data* (although it is unimportant what values are actually in that second column):
=ArrayFormula(HLOOKUP(IF(ROW($A$1:$A$4);$A$1);$A$1:$B$4;ROW($A$1:$A$4);0))
or indeed something like:
=ArrayFormula(HLOOKUP(IF({3;2;4;1};$A$1);$A$1:$B$4;{3;2;4;1};0))

Here is a tip for using vlookup with an array, so that even if the columns are moved later on the formula will still work correctly....
In general, configure the vlookup so that it's reading only 2 columns and returning the second. This can be done by inputting only the 2 columns required, rather than a range and column index.
Example:
Replace the following formula which would fail if columns are moved
=arrayformula( vlookup(C:C, booking!$A:$E ,5 ,false) )
with this formula which will continue to work even if columns are moved
=arrayformula( vlookup(C:C, {booking!$A:$A,booking!$E:$E} ,2 ,false) )
Note, you can also simulate the index function using vlookup.
Example:
Column R:R contains the row index numbers for looking up data in column booking!$A:$A
=arrayformula(vlookup(R:R ,arrayformula({row(booking!$A:$A), booking!$A:$A}),2 , false))
It's a nested array, so it can be helpful to test in stages, eg just the inner part for one example, eg return entry in row 10:
=vlookup(10 ,arrayformula({row(booking!$A:$A), booking!$A:$A}),2 , false)
