I'm trying to automate some functionalities of the salesfocre1 app, using Appium.
I have the application on my iPad (real device), but don't know how to connect it with my appium code.
I have the iPad simulator on my Mac but I'm not able to find any installer package files of the Salesforce1 app, to install it on the simulator.
I am not the developer of the above application, so I do not have access to the source code and bundle id, to run it on my XCODE and get it on the simulator.
I've previously done automation on Android using real devices/emulators but it was an easy case where we downloaded the app from play store and were able to test it on the emulator/real device, just wondering how to do the same on iOS. Please help, Thanks in advance.
It simply does not work that easy for iOS.
Since you want to run your Appium tests on real device, you need to build application (.IPA file) from source code or resign the one you have with your Apple developer account.
Then you need to build WebDriverAgent with same provision profile - so that Appium can interact with your application. Only with steps I described it will work.
So in your case:
1. No way to get source code - ask smb to provide developer build, release one in any case may not work with Appium.
2. No need to search - you won't find any installer.
3. No way to get Apple developer account - you have to use 3rd party cloud like saucelabs or browserstack, they will resign IPA file with theirs profiles and you will be able to run tests in cloud
So I have tried everything and am currently beating my head against the desk. I am using trigger.io to generate apps for both android and ios. The android apps work just find and I am able to distribute with MDM as needed. The ios app on the other hand just keeps throwing the error " could not be installed at this time."
I have generated and regenerated my certificates/profiles using the documentation provided and still nothing. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!
Bill
There are a number of additional things you can check:
Is Xcode up to date? Use the App Store to check for updates and install any updates if required.
Do you have the relevant iOS SDK installed in Xcode? Open up Xcode, go to Preferences and check the "Downloads" tab. Install any missing components that are required by your application (e.g. the supported iOS version needed for your app).
Does your iOS device support the minimum iOS version required by your application? Make sure you are running the minimum supported iOS. A difference in the installed version and the build version could be preventing install.
Does "Development Mode" need to be enabled on your device? Use Xcode > Window > Devices to see if Development Mode needs to be installed on your device. This will install some debugging tools to your device but won't affect any existing apps.
Check that your device is trusted with the computer you are using. Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect. You may be prompted on both the device and computer to "trust" each other.
Unlock your device with passcode and try running the app again to see if that makes a difference.
Hopefully one of these is your issue. Please comment if any of these helped.
When using trigger.io toolkit, there's an option that says
"Build and immediately run your app, either locally, on a simulator or on a connected device."
How do you run the app on a Connected Device? I want to see the app on my iPhone and see how it behaves directly. Is this possible?
Thanks
Marc
I'm going to assume you're working on windows with an iPhone that's iOS8 because that's where you currently can't run your app directly on a connected device.
What we did to "fix" this is creating a Development Provisioning Profile with the UDID's of our test devices and added this to config -> tools in the trigger.io toolkit. In the forge you now select package -> iOS giving you a .ipa file. This .ipa can now be installed using iTunes on your test devices.
It's a bit longer than just clicking run on device like you can for Android but at least you don't have to send it to testflight and wait for apple's approval.
This is possible but it depends on your os.
If your on a Mac you can deploy to both ios and android devices from forge, just connect them via usb and build, grated you need to make sure iTunes sees your devices etc.. there are guides on the trigger site
If you are on Windows, you are unfortunate out of luck right now, this used to work but ios8 broke this so if your building on ios7 you could still do it on Windows, otherwise you would need to use testpiolet from apple
I am trying use IOS Simulator/Emulator or iOS SDK in windows PC for Mobile application Test.Is it possible to install IOS Simulator/Emulator or iOS SDK in windows PC
No you cannot do this legally but you can test your app on any platform by uploading your app on app.io and just run it anywhere.
NO, You need Apple Device (iMac, Macbook, Mac Mini) to develop iOS Applications and iPhone/iPad for Testing on devices. Apple provides Xcode it's Integrated Development Environment Tool only for the MAC. Please use Apple Devices, register for Developer program and use their resources. click on https://developer.apple.com for all the info.
Have you heard about the virtual box..?, It may fulfill your need. It will run the windows macintosh (hackintosh) on it. You can develop apps there and see your apps on simulator too. The main task is to download a working macintosh set up in a virtual box. You can get many tutorials for it on google. If you need any help, please revert to me, Thanks :)
So I have a HTML 5 app and I have access to Apple Developer Center (iOS Dev Center to be more exact). The question is can I actually use it without buying (lending) Mac? Meaning, can I create/download my developer certificate and a provisioning profile from Windows or Linux?
According to this article, you no longer need a Mac?

For those wondering how to sign their app for iOS in Windows, here's how you can do so: building an iOS signing key for PhoneGap in Windows.
You still need an Apple Developer Account, there's no getting around that.
No it's not possible.
You can build your phonegap application in the cloud without a Mac (with some limitations depending on the build plan you choose).
As #stu sais, you may be able to make a certificate for Apple Store using Windows.
But, finally, you will need a Mac with Xcode installed to updload your application to the App Store.
Yes, it's possible, via PhoneGap Build. https://build.phonegap.com/
Eventually you need a Mac to submit your iOS apps. You can simply try the Remote Mac Server MacinCloud with your PC. You can install PhoneGap and develop iOS in the Cloud.
You can make a cert for apple store using windows. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea. I'm doing it my self. Just install ssl into windows and run it from cmd prompt. Find a tutorial on how to create a certificate for mac store using ssl from cmd.
