Can you create an MSI with electron-packager? - electron

I've just built an app with Electron.
Installing and running electron-packager . creates a folder my-app-win32-x64 with a bunch of assets and DLLs.
This isn't exactly something I can distribute to consumers.
What's the simplest way to generate a Windows installer for my electron executable?

It looks like according to their wiki you can. Follow the instructions here! https://github.com/electron/windows-installer

You may try electron-wix-msi it will help you to create a exe file.
it will basically ask you for your source file Path example D:\xyz\my-app-win32-x64
and will create a desired file at app source path.

MSIX: Set Installation Path

How to change the MSIX installation path??
Referred this url - "https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/msix/desktop/desktop-to-uwp-behind-the-scenes"
Always installer package is created in default location "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps"
Need to set the installer location to different location.
The installation path of an MSIX package cannot be changed. All the files you have included in your package are installed inside an app-specific folder under "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps<your app>\".
This is a design decision from Microsoft. Only for MSI/EXE installers you can change the install path.
If you want to add files in other folders too, you need to copy them the first time your application is launched. For that, you have multiple options. You can write your own code inside your application to copy the files in other folders or you can use tools like Advanced Installer to do it for you.
To understand more about MSIX and how files outside of the installation path can be managed I recommend this article/presentation I wrote last month.

Dart app with bin, web and libs

I want to make Dart app that has flexible deployment. It can be started as a web server or standalone app in browser as well. My directory structure:
bin
- httpserver.dart
lib
- commonlib.dart
web
- web.html
- web.dart
pubspec.yaml
I wanto start either httpserver.dart providing web's content or web.html directly in Chromium. I have troubles with the lib visibility from bin/httpserver.dart. using the "import 'package:prj/commonlib.dart'" does not work. But from the web.dart is works fine.
Please advice how to share libs among bin's and web's code. Or I should I make structure of dirs somehow different?
Note: there is no packages sub-dir in the bin directory created by pub get. I am using dart sdk 1.7.2.
Thank you, Ladislav.
In the bin directory there should be a packages symlink created automatically but it is not in subdirectories of prj/bin. If the symlink isn't created just create it manually.

Windows Service Installation .NET-4.5 Cannot load the exe file

I am trying to install a windows service with installutil in cmd and this is the msg I get:
Exception occurred while initializing the installation:
System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///D:\inst
all\DemoWinProject.exe' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an
assembly manifest..
Can you help me out whats the prb ???
I have not seen that problem directly, but a very brief search found this link that may have the answer you seek. In a nutshell, make sure you're using the right version of InstallUtil.exe for the .NET framework targeted by your application and that you do not have any x86/x64 inconsistencies within your assemblies.
FWIW, I personally do not like using InstallUtil.exe to install my Windows service; I prefer the Windows service perform its own installation/uninstallation. This is a fairly straightforward thing to do, as I've shown here.
HTH.
I fixed this problem by writing the path where my InstallUtil.exe is and then Write the command InstallUtil and then write the path where my exe file that needs to be install is.
Note : Make another copy of debug folder in another place and install the exe file from that path. This is because anytime you make a built the exe file changes. So to prevent the changes of the installed .exe make a copy of it in another place and install it.
ex.
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727>installutil c:\Documents\Debug\WindowsService.exe

Is it possible to change Yeoman's directory structure?

I like Yeoman's features like the Package Manager (Bower), Livereload integration, Compass, etc.
Therefor, I'd like to use it to handle my public website. However, instead of using the "app" folder, I would like to put everything at the root.
I've changed the references in the grunt configuration file but still get errors when installing new package and building.
Is it possible to change the project structure?
Not as easy as it could be at the moment, but we're working on making it easily customizable.
Though I don't think you would need to. You develop in the /app folder and deploy the contents of the built /dist folder. That way it's still in the root on your server.

Copying files from a Rails plugin into the application upon plugin install

When someone installs this plugin, I would like a file to be copied into the config/initializers directory of the app. I could do this in install.rb by copying a template file that resides somewhere in the plugin. Another option would be to require the user to run a generator after install. I know rspec-rails makes you run a generator after you install it, is that the recommended behavior?
And is there anything wrong with copying files into the application in install.rb?
Thanks!
Lou
Does the user need to manually tweak the file? If so, then I would use a generator with parameters. If not, I would prefer that you do it with install.rb. My $.02
