I'm following this Go Rails tutorial and I'm running into trouble when I reach the step to install rails. I'm calling

I'm not really sure what to make of this. I've tried reinstalling uninstalling and reinstalling zlib but it didn't seem to change anything. I'm on OS X Sierra version 10.12.3 by the way.
Solved by this thread using
sudo gem install rails -- --use-system-libraries --with-xml=/usr/local/Cellar/libxml2/

I am not a Ruby developer and I am finding many difficult to install Redmine (that is developed in Ruby) on an Ububuntu 16.04 server.
I am following this official tutorial: http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/HowTo_Install_Redmine_on_Ubuntu_step_by_step
It seems very simple but I am finding many difficult when it "ensure that the bundler GEM is installed".
I am not sure about what exactly is this bundler GEM that have to be installed. From what I have understand (correct me if I am doing wrong assertion) a GEM is something that packages excutable Ruby application (something like a JAR file in Java).
So, the problem is that when I perform this statment in the bash console:
sudo gem update
I obtain many error messages like this:

I'm new to Ubuntu and Ruby on Rails. How can I solve these problems?
It looks like you're missing prerequisites.
Nokogiri's "Troubleshooting Ubuntu/Debian Installation" documentation says:
Here’s what you should do if you should find yourself in this situation:
1 sudo apt-get install ruby-dev zlib1g-dev
Please report it as a bug if this doesn’t work for you (see Getting Help for details).
Because you're using Ubuntu and doing a normal install, you'll need sudo to do any gem installs.
I'd strongly recommend using rbenv or RVM to manage your Ruby installation(s) as they'll make your life a lot easier. If you use those, you won't need to use sudo again, except for any system-wide prerequisite libraries.
when installing Rails, everything was good but then, i write:
rails -v
and the output:

It seems bad
I've fixed this problem by
sudo apt-get install zlib1g-dev
This pops up in your install process:
zlib is missing; necessary for building libxml2
I guess you need to sudo apt-get install libxml2.
Edit I got downvoted and probably the answer about installing zlib is (more?) correct. I wonder if installing libxml2 (or libxml2-dev) would have helped as well, there was unfortunately no comment about output of that experiment.
