There is no built-in way to make an image into a page control, but you can use a horizontal UIScrollView with your views embedded in it, then recreate the page control with UIViews for the circles and some resize animations, combined with programmatically scrolling the scroll view. I want to create a page with a big image as background and buttons that users can interact with.
So imagine I put a big image such as a piece of map into the screen, but I only show a corner of the map in the display. So if a user wants to see other parts of the map, they have to "scroll" and navigate to wherever they want.
Meanwhile I also want to put a button they can tap on, and that button should lead to a php webpage (in-app, not opening in safari or else) or information page about sites and buildings in this location.
I am a rookie and I haven't have any code written down yet. I am thinking about using UIScrollView and UIButton, but am I on the right direction? Any advice?

First you need a way to pinch zoom the image. In this mode, you can drag the image in any direction that you want. A common method can be found here. A scroll view can only scroll horizontally or vertically but with that image zooming, each image can be zoomed in and then dragged to any direction you want. You can have a scroll view with only one image.
After you have the image zooming ready, all you need to do is to create a subview on your screen to cover part of the image view or scroll view, whatever you used.
Im am relatively new to Swift/iOS and i have a quite complex task to Accomplish, and i want to know the best way for doing that.
I need to have a Custom View. This View displays some content, e.g. a news-article. If the user taps on the View, it expands and shows a more detailed version of the news article. Also, the user cann scroll horizontally (in the expanded or collapsed state) to get to the next article.

I searched for each problem individually. For scrolling, i found that i can use a scrollview with paging enabled, so that each swipe will lead to the next article. But im not sure if that is the best solution for my problem.
For expanding/Collapsing a view, i only have the idea to programmatically set the size of the view to fill the screen, so that auto layout would no longer display everything that is located beneath our custom view. Would that be possible? And is there any better solution?
I'm trying to create a 3x3 menu, based on a grid of buttons, and I'm facing a lot of problems trying to adapt it to different screen sizes.
Since I want my menu to be equally spaced on the screen (using autolayout tricks on the Storyboard), I have created a custom class with this menu that i'm adding to the center part of the main controller view. The problem is that the menu doesn't fit in small screen (3,5" screens).
Trying to solve this problem, I have created a scrollView in the main screen to add the menu and be able to scroll in small screens.
The problem is that since the view I'm loading in the scrollview, automatically fits to the size of the container (in this case the UIScrollView), only a small part of the menu is appearing in the 3,5" screen, without the option of scrolling (In bigger views it appears equally spaced and everything appears correctly).
How can I solve this UIScrollView problem? Or there is a better solution for this problem?

Uiscrollview with autolayout has some pain into it.
You need to place you're inner views so the scrollview Will be able to understand the contentsize it should use.

I have created a small app using a ScrollView w/ paging and a series of UIImageViews each representing a page. It acts similar to the Photos.app.
I want to be able to pan and zoom individually for each image (page of a scrollview).
What would be the most sound approach to do this? Should I replace the UIImageView page with a scrollview with a UIImage inside it? I would then have a main scroll view where each page of the scrollview had a scrollview with an image inside it that could be pinched,etc.
It seems like a messy approach. I am looking for a clean approach. Any suggestions?
Well, as far as I know the approach you suggest is the way it is done. I have used this to create a PDF viewer and once everything is in place it doesn't feel too messy.
You might want to use CATiledLayer as your inner (per-page) scrollview's layer (instead of CALayer) if these images you have are really big (which could well be the case since otherwise zooming in on them would not bring you much but pixelation, but this is just an assumption on my part).
Checkout UIPageViewController. This controller manages a view controllers for each page and transitions between them using effects like page curl or scroll.
In your case you would create a view controller that manages a scrollview for zoom & pan for each page.
I have a simple app that has a set of coloured views, one red, one green and one blue.
I am trying to make it so that when a swipe gesture is made the current view will switch to the next one in the list in a fluid manner, it looks like moving a long piece of paper with different colours on it.
Is there a way to do this (CoreAnimation)?
You could first look into UIScrollView. It seems to me that what you are trying to accomplish is the same you have, say, in Mobile Safari on an iPhone, when you show all your current pages and can go from one to the next by scrolling. This tutorial is particularly close to what you describe.
If you are looking into more advanced kind of transformations, than Core Animation would be the option.
Actually, nothing prevents using both approaches, UIScrollView to handle the swipe, Core Animation to add more animation to the pack...
You could use a UIScrollView to accomplish this. Add all of your colored views as subviews to the scroll view. Make sure your contentSize is setup appropriately and optionally setup paging to make the scrolling always snap to a certain border.
