Loading UITableViewController Programmatically Without Storyboards - ios

I am trying to launch a UITableViewController as a RootController from AppDelegate without using Storyboards.
Here is my TasksTableViewController:

Put in break points to confirm that it was created properly before adding it to the window. Also, there isn't a reason to instantiate a new window upon launch so don't do that.. At this point double check that the VC is in fact displayed by putting a breakpoint in viewDidAppear. Consider making TasksTableViewController a subclass of UIViewController that has a tableview inside it as this is common practice. Subclassing UITableView is usually not recommended nor is using it as a ViewController. If you laid out a custom tableview in a xib that you want to use, you can instantiate one in view did load or init on the root view controller, add it as a subview, and set the frame to cover up the entire screen. I highly recommend this approach.

iOS - Setting 'rootViewController' results in black screen on device only

With a very basic single view application, I've deleted the main storyboard file and removed any references to it. As such I'm setting the window rootViewController programmatically. However, while this displays the single view (containing a label) correctly in simulator, it displays a black screen when running it on device. Here is the only code for the app.

There is no output in the console, and there are no exceptions. The viewDidLoad function is even triggering on breakpoint, so the codepath seems to be running correctly.
Any ideas?

It looks like the ViewController is not set to display anything. Unless you are using a xib (in which case you would need to load the view controller in a different way, see below), there is nothing describing how the ViewController's view should render.
To test this out, you can add the line self.view.backgroundColor = UIColor.red to the ViewController's viewDidLoad() method, then run it again on the device- if the background color turns red, then hooray! The next step will be programmatically adding a UILabel.

I have found the answer it had nothing to do with the xcode setup, removing storyboard and the reference from project is the right thing. It had to do with the swift syntax.

We can create navigation-based application without storyboard in Xcode 6 (iOS 8) like as follows:

Initing and assigning a view controller in the applicationDelegate makes all the UI elements in the viewController be nil

You initialized the ViewController wrong. If you're using a storyboard then you should write this:

mainViewController = storyboard.instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier("your_VC_ID")
window.rootViewController = mainViewController
window.makeKeyAndVisible()
If you're using NIB/XIB files then you should write this:
let mainViewController = YourViewController(nibName:"YourVCNibName", bundle:nil)
If you're just initializing it like InLineViewController(), there's no view attached to it and therefore everything is nil.

How to load a UIViewController programmatically without using Storyboard in Swift

I have a ViewController called MyViewController and I want to load it programmatically without a stroyboard or xib.
As a follow up squestion, I would like to load a MyTableViewController inside a navigation controller. Again, I need to do it programmatically without using Storyboard or xib.
Please help.

I have found the answer it had nothing to do with the xcode setup, removing storyboard and the reference from project is the right thing. It had to do with the swift syntax.
The code is the following:

I recommend you use controller and xib
MyViewController.swift and MyViewController.xib
(You can create through File->New->File->Cocoa Touch Class and set "also create XIB file" true, sub class of UIViewController)

and In AppDelegate.swift func application write the following code

Why don't you just create an empty application? the storyboard is not created to me...
We can create navigation-based application without storyboard in Xcode 6 (iOS 8) like as follows:
Create an empty application by selecting the project language as
Swift.
Add new cocoa touch class files with the interface xib. (eg.
TestViewController)
In the swift we have only one file interact with the xib i.e. *.swift
file, there is no .h and .m files.
We can connect the controls of xib with swift file same as in iOS 7.
