Recently I have been trying to create a table view with different table view cells. What I want to do is that when users click on each table view cell, it shows an extra cell underneath the selected cell to handle user inputs and the extra section disappears when the cell is unselected.
I am fairly new to iOS development and I am wondering what would be the best way to achieve this. At the moment I am thinking of hiding the extra cells initially and displaying each of them when the cell above is selected.
Any help would be appreciated.
Apple has a great set of sample code that demonstrates the behavior you're looking for — displaying a cell beneath another cell when selected. This behavior is used in Calendar when displaying a date picker, and it's pretty much what you've described.
Question: Will each cell have an identical set of options?
If so, I'd consider including the user inputs as part of the source cell and adjusting the height of the source on selection. You can animate the cell's height changing using tableView's beginUpdates and endUpdates. This way, you avoid messing around with cell indices.

I want to customize my tableview. I want to add another tableview in cell. Can we add tableview in cell of another tableview?
Please give me some ideas.
You can embed a UITableView into another UITableView's cell, but due to potential issues with the embedded UIScrollViews it is not recommended.
If you feel like you need a table in a table, first consider if it is not possible to achieve the desired behavior by using sections and cells in the sections (a section in a table might represent the top tableView's cell, and cells in the given section would represent the embedded tableView's cells).
There is no problem with adding a UITableView into a a UITableViewCell, since both of them are UIViews its simply would be translated to adding a subview to a view...
However, keep in mind to consider the following issues:
1- From a user experience perspective, that would be a vertical scroll view inside another vertical scroll view (are you ok with that?).
2- For each cell -in the main container table view-, you would need to handle the table view delegates/datasources. For understanding the logic of how this could be done, you might want to check:
Is it possible to add UITableView within a UITableViewCell.
Putting a UICollectionView in a UITableViewCell in Swift: although it is about adding a UICollectionView inside the cell, it helps to gain the logic of how to achieve such a task.
How to create this view for dynamic data in ios with checkboxed and radio button i searched it from many websites but didn't find. Please sugest me any reference or any solution.
I think the key is how to change content and height of a cell.
When user tap a cell, you need to change content of cell and add more views. After that, you need to set new row height without reload tableview. Here is a post about how to dynamic table view row height http://candycode.io/dynamic-uitableview-height-for-downloaded-images/.
I recommend you to take a look at HVTableView
This is a subclass of UITableView with expand/collapse feature that
comes useful in many scenarios.
Okay What i want to do is position a custom cell so that the cell looks like only a portion of it is shown in the UITableView. When you swipe it to the left it goes to a new viewcontroller that allows the user to add details for a new cell. My question is how do we position the UITableViewCell to show only a portion of it in the tableView?
What i want to do is position a custom cell so that the row is not shown fully like about 1/4th or 1/2 its actual length only in the table view
here is an app with the functionality i'm trying to implement this is the image url as i can't post images yet

I want to implement my cells just like how they implemented their expenses in cells, the cell is positioned according to the amount in it ,if the amount is high the cell is placed further to the left else only 1/4th of the cell is shown(empty cell no expense )
Can we achieve this by making an imageview in a customcell and then changing the x-axis of the image view according to the amount entered in the cell? Thanks in advance
For this, I would do it this way :
For each of my model cell I add a state, in the delegate of UItableView i use heightForRowAtIndex to set the size depends of the cell's state.
To not show extra view (when the cell is cliped) use :
[myCellview setClipToBounds:YES];
I think it should do the tricks. Even if it's not the best way to do it!
Solved it i Just had to add a scroll view to the cell's content view and then add a view containing the color to the scroll view. So its coding is similar to the swipe deletion in 'UITablView'

this repository helped me out, i only had to make a few changes otherwise that was it thanks for all your suggestions :)
I have DropDown class (the custom dropDown menu which is a tableViewController)
It is working (tested and used in other classes)
Then I have a PersonalInfo Class..
my PersonalInfo class is a TableViewController containing custom cells
Each cell has a UIView dropDownView and a textField contentTextField.
making the DropDown a subview of dropDownView, I'm able to make the dropDown menu appear on each cell. However, when the dropDown goes beyond the height of the cell, the dropDown items are not clickable anymore but they're still visible.
If i make the cell's height larger it works fine, but I want to keep the cell's height at a certain size.
I tried bringing views to front, never worked.
Can anybody help me? I'm running out of ideas..
thanks
With the drop-down being a subview to your cell, you can only control the content within that cell (I think...). From an "Apple Human Interface Design Guide" perspective, your approach is probably a bit unusual.
Firstly, you wouldn't really need every single cell to have a drop down, right? I mean, even if you have a drop-down menu within a cell, you'd only display one drop down at a time, and not multiple ones. So you could make the drop down a sub-view of the table. Or, more aligned with the standard approach, you would have a drill-down view that loads the drop-down / subtable into the current table, similar to all the tutorials on table views.
Hope this helps,

I have a particular goal in mind here, searching for it is a little hard. I am trying to accomplish this (This is a photoshopped screenshot):
I have everything in this view working, except for the split row for the Company Name/ Beginning of the field row. The "Company Name" field is just a textfield, all I really want to do is shrink that neato cell background to just go behind the right side.
Create a custom table view cell that has two subviews: the text field on the left and a UITableViewCell on the right as a subview of the main table view cell. A UITableViewCell is just a UIView so you can actually add it as a subview of any view. The main table view cell will have it's background color set to transparent.
So totally complicated custom cell comes with a totally ridiculous solution. I built a view for the cell that has the one field...and another UITableView.
That second UITableView has the "Beginning of the field" text, and its cell gets the background, and I hide the background of the main cell.
I had to play around with the nested table's size and position to get the row to display properly, and make sure that the lines in the background don't shift when it hits the nested table, but it came out perfect
You could try setting the frame property of your cells backgroundView to cover only have your cell's width. Address Book handles complex forms like this with a nice look and feel--you might want to see what they've done there..
One approach would be to define a custom table view cell, set its background transparent and add the UITextField on the left and a UIButton on the right (customize it to look like your other cells), as in your screenshot.
