TableView scroll underlying top bar - ios

Since I updated my app to iOS 7 new GUI I have a problem that I can't solve.
My app consists in a scrollable TableView. Trouble is that TableView scrolls underlying top bar, means that table doesn't consider top bar and extends till the top and it's ugly to see.
I tried removing check on "Extend edges under Top Bars" but it's the same.
How can I solve this?

One solution is: set the table view's contentInset and scrollIndicatorInsets to have a top inset of 20. The table view will still underlap the status bar, but it will be completely visible when scrolled all the way.
If you don't like that solution, and you want a permanent empty area behind the status bar, you will have to change the way you pin/position the top of the table view, to allow for the status bar. How you do this depends on whether you are using auto layout. If you are, just pin to the top layout guide. If you are not, you will have to use the "delta" field provided in the nib editor.
If you are using a UITableViewController, however, you are not in charge of the top of the table view; it is a full-screen view and it is the view controller's main view. This is quite a troublesome situation, actually. I have resorted to two solutions:
Put the whole thing into a UINavigationController in order to get the nav bar to "run interference" for me.
Or, embed the table view controller in a custom parent view controller just so that I can position the top of the table view.

In UINavigationController I created an UIView, which goes under status bar but in front of embed controller (the Table), so table disappear behind this view and status bar is always on top.

Then I make it disappear when screen goes in Landscape (in iOS9, status bar automatically disappear in Landscape) and make it reappear when screen goes in Portrait.

CollectionView items are hidden behind top bar

I have a messaging application, the problem is that the first messages are not visible, when I drag the collection view to see the top messages I can see them but when I release the finger, the collection view jumps back, hiding the first 5 messages that are at the top of the screen
As we can see from the image there is a message (actually are 5 messages at the top), however I have to drag the collection view to peek those messages. I thought that the size of the collection view is actually larger that the screen, however both the collectionView.frame.height and the UIScreen.main.bounds.height have the same height, is that ok? .

What am I doing wrong?
As of iOS 7.0, all views automatically go behind navigation bars, toolbars and tab bars to provide what Apple calls "context".
For example, if you don't want a view controller to go behind any bars, use this in viewWillAppear

It seems to be the problem with constraints, if you are using custom navigation bar top constraints should be in reference to it. If using default navigation controller, you might need to give the top constraint to 44 from safe area.
However UIScreen.main.bounds.height consists of complete screen including the top navigation bar and 20 px of status bar. For collectionView.frame.height you need to minus these values.

Static/fixed Navigation Bar in iOS

I have a Navigation Controller and a Collection View under it inside my app. And there is a problem: I use large title inside my Navigation bar, so everything inside is not static. When I scroll the collection view cells, the title (I created it manually using UILabel() to move it as I want inside the navigation bar) and buttons move up and the navigation bar takes form of iOS 10 navigation bar, I mean its height. You can see it here:

So the question is simple: how to make the force constant height for the navigation bar? I want it to become fixed even while scrolling. Are there any ideas? Is it possible?
And the second question, if the first is impossible: Another solution for my problem is to make the Navigation Bar with "Prefer large titles" Off bigger. I tried this code:

Yes, you can make it fixed. It will not scroll if the very first view in the view hierarchy is not a CollectionView/TableView (ScrollView).
Using Storyboard/Xib:
Consider the following image where a tableView and button are added in scene. Here the navigation bar will collapse on scroll of tableView because tableView is the very first view in viewController's containerView hierarchy attached to the navigation bar.
Now to make the navigation bar fixed, if we just change the order of tableView and button as below, it will disable the collapsing of navigation bar.
To change the order of the view, you have to click, hold and move up/down.
If you have only CollectionView in this scene then you can add a placeholder view at the top and set its height to zero as below,
Programmatically:
If you are setting up view's programmatically then you just need to add a placeholder view at the top or add tableView/collection after adding other views.
e.g,

self.view.addSubview(tableView) // or collectionView

iOS 11 on NavigationBar pull down - height of bar changes?

What I want to to: I want to drag down the whole view of a viewController to dismiss to the parent viewController using a pan gesture recognizer.
The Problem: When I drag the view down, the navigationBar decreases its height and does not look good. When the view returns to its original position, the navigationBar returns to the default size. I want the navigationBar to stay at its size. I also tried to use the new large titles and some other properties of the navigationController/-bar, but that did not solve it.
Note: Everything worked fine already before iOS 11.

I want the navigationBar to stay at its size
It is staying at its size. If you check the navigation bar's bounds size height before, during, and after the drag, you will see that it remains the same (probably 44) at all times. What's changing is the drawing extension that causes the drawing of the nav bar to extend up behind the status bar. It can't do that when you pull the whole thing away from the top of the screen, because it is not at the top next to the status bar any more. iOS 11 is more strict about the way it performs this drawing extension, probably because it has to do it in a special way on the iPhone X.
So, let's make sure you're doing this correctly:
Make sure that the navigation bar has a top constraint pinned to the safe area layout guide's top, with a constant of zero.
Make sure that the navigation bar has a delegate that returns .topAttached from position(forBar:).
If you are doing both those things and it doesn't help, you'll have to implement this in some other way entirely. Making the view directly draggable like this, without a custom parent view controller, was always dubious.
When UINavigationController attached top, system will add safe area top margin in the navigation background.
(NOTICE: Background margin will not changed when offset value is between 1 and 0)
So you have to handle attached/detached top event by handle gesture offset to change the right offset and content insets.
You can try the solution in my lib example. ;)

iOS 7 TableView in a ViewController and NavigationBar blurred effect

I started building a TableView in my app by using a TableViewController in a storyboard. When you do this, you have a very cool effect when you scroll down your list : the cells moving behind the nav bar get blurred.
Some time later, I had to move from this TableViewController to a ViewController with a TableView inside (I had to add other views at the bottom of the table).
In order to avoid having the first cells hidden by the navigation bar (being over it), I added constraints to the Top and Bottom Layout Guides, and to the left and right edges of the view.
This works fine, but I lost the cool blurred scrolling effect : the cells seem to be disappearing before going behind the navigation bar.
I've seen workarounds with people not using constraints and putting magic numbers in interface builder. I cannot do this, first because I dislike it, and second because I have to be iOS 6 compatible.
What did I miss to be able to benefit again from the blurred navigation bar effect ?
You have to manually adjust the contentInset of the table view and make sure the table view frame origin is 0, 0.
In this way the table view will be below the navigation bar, but there will be some margin between the content and the scroll view edges (the content gets shifted down).
I advise you to use the topLayoutGuide property of the view controller to set the right contentInsets, instead of hard coding 64 (status bar + navigation bar).
There's also bottomLayoutGuide, which you should use in case of UITapBars.
Here is some sample code (viewDidLoad should be fine):

By the way, this properties of UIViewController might help you (you should not need to change their default values, but I don't know what your view hierarchy is):

The tableView needs to be full screen. That is underneath the top and bottom bars. Note don't use the top and bottom layout guides as they are used for positioning relative to the bars not underneath.
Then you need to manually set the content inset of the tableview. This sets the initial scroll position to under the top bar.
Something like:

Not you get this functionality for free when using a tableView controller and the "Automatically Adjust content inset" settings
You probably have the coordinates of your tableView not set to (0, 0) to map to those of the viewController.view.frame or viewController.view.bounds. If you have done that, try setting

UIViewController property edgesForExtendedLayout does the trick. If you are using storyboards just make sure Extended Edges Under Top Bars is on (and it is by default).
If you are creating your view controller programmatically try this:

And of course, your table view needs to have proper autoresizing mask/layout constraints
edgesForExtendedLayout is not what you want here, as this will limit the table view underneath the navigation bar. In iOS 7, the view controllers uses fullscreen by default, and the property controlling where the tableview content starts is automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets. This should be YES by default, so check if it is somehow set to NO, or try setting it explicitly.

I have been reading a lot about iOS7 UI transition.
I am not able to get what these three properties automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets, extendedLayoutIncludesOpaqueBars, edgesForExtendedLayout??
For example I am trying to make my view controllers start below the status bar but I am not able to achieve it.
Starting in iOS7, the view controllers use full-screen layout by default. At the same time, you have more control over how it lays out its views, and that's done with those properties:
edgesForExtendedLayout
Basically, with this property you set which sides of your view can be extended to cover the whole screen. Imagine that you push a UIViewController into a UINavigationController. When the view of that view controller is laid out, it will start where the navigation bar ends, but this property will set which sides of the view (top, left, bottom, right) can be extended to fill the whole screen.
Let see it with an example:

Here you are not setting the value of edgesForExtendedLayout, therefore the default value is taken (UIRectEdgeAll), so the view extends its layout to fill the whole screen.
This is the result:
As you can see, the red background extends behind the navigation bar and the status bar.
Now, you are going to set that value to UIRectEdgeNone, so you are telling the view controller to not extend the view to cover the screen:

automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets
This property is used when your view is a UIScrollView or similar, like a UITableView. You want your table to start where the navigation bar ends, because you wont see the whole content if not, but at the same time you want your table to cover the whole screen when scrolling. In that case, setting edgesForExtendedLayout to None won't work because your table will start scrolling where the navigation bar ends and it wont go behind it.
Here is where this property comes in handy, if you let the view controller automatically adjust the insets (setting this property to YES, also the default value) it will add insets to the top of the table, so the table will start where the navigation bar ends, but the scroll will cover the whole screen.
This is when is set to NO:
And YES (by default):
In both cases, the table scrolls behind the navigation bar, but in the second case (YES), it will start from below the navigation bar.
extendedLayoutIncludesOpaqueBars
This value is just an addition to the previous ones. By default, this parameter is set to NO. If the status bar is opaque, the views won't be extended to include the status bar, even if you extend your view to cover it (edgesForExtendedLayout to UIRectEdgeAll).
If you set the value to YES, this will allow the view to go underneath the status bar again.

How does iOS know what UIScrollView to use?
iOS grabs the first subview in your ViewController's view, the one at index 0, and if it's a subclass of UIScrollView then applies the explained properties to it.
Of course, this means that UITableViewController works by default (since the UITableView is the first view).
Not sure if you are using storyboards, but if you are, to make your view controllers start below the status bar (and above the bottom bar):
Select the view controller in IB,
In the attributes inspector, deselect 'Extend Edges - Under Top Bars' and 'Extend Edges - Under Bottom Bars'.
I am using storyboards and using the above advice worked however I wasn't exactly sure how to implement it. Below is a short example in swift of how it cleared up the problem by putting the recommended solution into the ViewController.

Code above applied, turning off the auto-adjust.
I solved this problem by adding this line, but my problem was related to a UIView, not UIScrollView

Just bare in mind that
automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets
property works only if some kind of scroll view (table view, collection view,...) is either
The view of VC, or
First subview of this view
Other suggested, that it doest work even if it is the first subview, but there are other scroll views in the view hierarchy.
EDIT (extension DIY)
If you want similar behaviour even if you can't fulfil these conditions (e.g. you have a background image below the scroll view), you can adjust the scroll view insets manually. But please don't set it to constant like 44 or 64 or even 20 like many suggest around SO. You can't know the size ever. There can be the incall/gps/audio notification, navigation bar doesn't have to be always 44 pts etc.
I think the best solution is to use layoutGuide length in didLayoutSubviews:
