I have installed and configured TFS on my server, also I have created a project TEST in TFS. I want to ask how to add code to TFS server and then map it with code in mu local pc.
Any help?
The following should get you started:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181384.aspx
High level overview
Open visual studio
Connect to team collection/team project
Map the team project to a folder on your local pc
Get all the files if any from tfs
Add any files from your local workspace to TFS.
Before you change permission levels for others, make sure that you have the right level of permissions.
Open the administrative context for your team project.
In the Security tab, under users, find your own name, and look at what groups you belong to and what permissions you have
If you aren't a project administrator, you need to be. Find someone who is, and have them add you.
Add user to a team project or a team, etc.
For detailed information you can refer to article below:

I'm trying to download my project from Visual Studio Online (TFS), but I can't see one project in list. I have two accounts, main and secondary. I'm trying to get project using secondary account. Both users have Administrator permission on this project. Also, other projects, that I see in list, have same permissions with this account. I see this project on web-site (my_organization.visualstudio.com), but it is not in Visual Studio, in Source Control Explorer. Need some help - is there any bug, or I'm doing something wrong..? Thanks
Stackoverflow is mainly handling issues’ open forum while your current question is organization identity/account issue targeting to Azure DevOps, which need assistance of the product group. Thus the best contact channel is here: https://developercommunity2.visualstudio.com/report?entry=problem&space=21, the product support engineer will then contact the product group and offer efficient assistance. Thanks for your understanding.
BTW, you could refer to this doc: Set repository permissions for Git or TFVC to check your account's repository permissions in this project.
This question is for building Angular application in VS Code.
My team has been coding in VS2015 and using Microsoft TFS for version control (Please note that our code is within the company firewall, on a local TFS build server and not on Gits repository). For Angular, I installed VS Code and Azure Repos plugin for TFS.
Once Work-space is setup, I can see the files (I downloaded the files from VS2015 on local machine) but they all show as "Untracked" changes - why? These are checked in files.
Also, when a colleague checks-in files from their VS Code instance, my VS Code doesn't get it.
What is that I am missing here?
I figured out the issue (or a workaround). Posting my solution for any newbie facing the same issue:
Please note that my code is not in GITS or any remote repository, it is in Team Server hosted in the company data center.
I have a workspace created in VS2015 via which I mapped my Angular code and downloaded it on local machine.
VS Code Settings:
Make sure you have Azure Repos extension installed.
Go to File->Preferences->Settings (make sure User settings tab is selected)-> Extensions-> Azure Repos extension:
Provide the values for following fields:
(a) Tfvc: Location Example value for VS2015: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\tf.exe
(b) Tfvc: Proxy
Example (this should be your team server name): https://dataCenter.myCompany.com:9100/tfs
(c) Tfvc: Restrict Workspace (this is optional, use only if needed)
Check the box
Goto View->Command Palette-> type Team: Signin, provide username and password.
Goto File->Open folder-> select the folder mapped via VS2015.
Once the folder is open, you will see all files inside the folder. Go to File->Save Workspace As and give it a name.
Now you should be able to see any changes done by you in either VS2015 or VS code. Check-in should reflect the changes for you and other users connected to the code.
Previous Mistake: I realized that I was using Gits:Initialize Repository (as advised on various sites) which was causing all the trouble of "Untracked" changes and other users' changes not reflecting in my code.
Thanks,
RDV
We have several of our projects at my company in source control using Visual Studio Team Services (visualstudio.com). For the life of me I can't figure out how to get the workspace on my machine to flip to a Server workspace type. We don't want multiple checkouts and we want to get latest when we edit a file, and server workspaces (as I understand it) are the only way to accomplish this. Is it even possible to use server workspaces with the "cloud" version of TFS/Visual Studio Team Services?
Thanks!
Connect to your server with Visual Studio
Go to Team Explorer
Go to Settings
This part can be a little tricky so I attach a screen shot:
Under "Team Project Collection" go to Source Control
On the new dialog go to the second tab - Workspace Settings
So as you can see it is pretty obscure and I believe it is on purpose. By default the workspaces are of type "local" and these have their benefits. You may want to check out this article to make an informed decision: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb892960.aspx
I tried out the TFS Service with a project of mine. After I experienced some problems (probably misuse) I used VSUnbindSourceControl.exe (see: http://vsunbindsourcecc.codeplex.com/) to detach the project (locally) from the TFS, but it looks as if on the server side, the project that was uploaded, is still bound to my computer.
See image:
and the error message in the output window:
Failed To Create Mapping
The working folder G:\Quant tool DotNet4 is already in use by the workspace USER-PC;myemail# somedomain dot com on computer USER-PC.
(I now use a different email address than the one above)
I've tried to delete the project from the server via the Source Control Explorer in VS, but the delete option is disabled. (also when I login with mldz at hotmail dot com.
I was also not able to delete the project or change it's settings via the TFS web interface.
Anyone experience with this problem and how to solve it with the new TFS in the cloud? i saw some similar problems with a normal TFS and some solutions could be done via the the team foundation administration tool, but that cannot be applied to the TFS in the cloud (AFAIK)
Some info about trying to install TFS integration tool
Hi,
I use VS2012 express and although I installed vs_teamexplorer.exe,
I'm not able to install Microsoft Team Foundation Server Integration Tool.
Already restarted the computer after installation and tried again. Doesn't work. Missing something?
regards,
Matthijs
You can use the same admin tools for tfs.visualstudio. See examples. At end of http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj130558.aspx article which show deletion of workspaces, for example.
I have a project on server call "MyApp". I connect the tfs server, retrieve and save project my desktop.
Then change project name "MyApp" to "MyAppTemp" on server..
Call project again from server, i expect a problem but no problem. So I understood that the project also has got a different location on the server.
Where is real location of my team project?
This is a bit confusing, because you cannot locally save a team project.
A team project is a set of settings and options, which you can only see from the connected server, but not 'download' in any way. Maybe you're confusing this with Visual Studio projects, which is something totally different?
Anyway, data for a team project live in the TFS database.

A workspace in TFS contains the mappings between a location in TFS Source Control and your local file system. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181383(v=VS.100).aspx
