Note: I am posting this because I don't even know what to Google search. I know we're all about thorough research before asking these questions. Any help would be appreciated.
Scenario: User writes a text post from my app and when they submit it, the content is added to a Parse.com class (I know how to do this) and simultaneously it is tweeted from a designated twitter account (that does not belong to the user) let's say #MyCoolAppThatTweets.
In other words, I don't want the user via my app to be permanently logged into #MyCoolAppThatTweets twitter account, but have one-time access to send a tweet from it.
Another way to phrase this question would be: How can my app log into a specific twitter account whose credentials I can "bake" into the app without compromising the security of that twitter account.
I am already aware that normally, users of an iOS app wouldn't automatically want their content being tweeted. For the project I'm making, this is not going to be a concern (it's a secret).
If you need more information or if I need to post this elsewhere, please let me know!
From your question I am not sure if you are familiar with "Twitter part" of Parse.com and Twitter REST API. If not please start by reading this https://www.parse.com/docs/ios/guide#users-twitter-users (or take a look on official Twitter way by using their plugin called Fabric: https://dev.twitter.com/)
Since you mentioned PFUser I will describe you how to achieve it by using Parse.com API.
First your user must be logged in to Twitter account.
I suppose that your user is already logged in into your app as a PFUser so best way to log him into some Twitter account is by linking Twitter account with existing PFUser - https://www.parse.com/docs/ios/guide#users-linking.
After that you can post tweets through user's Twitter account (if permission was granted). I recommend doing that using Parse.com Twitter API calls https://www.parse.com/docs/ios/guide#users-login-amp-signup. To create API requests you need official Twitter REST API which can be obtained here https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api.

In my IOS app i Want to add twitter login in order to fetch the user's information like Name, Email ID and Profile picture. Can anyone please provide me some useful information or some tutorial link that can help in integrating twitter login in my app and to fetch user information.
If you're just trying to do some really simple login stuff and are new to iOS, I would definitely check out Parse's Twitter Login tools.
https://parse.com/docs/ios_guide#twitterusers/iOS
Really user friendly and simple to get the hang of.
If you want to add twitter login to your app in a simple way, I would recommend you to use Fabric framework. Follow this link: https://dev.twitter.com/fabric/ios
Note: You can't bring user's email easily. You need to get permissions from twitter by filling a form in twitter website or else by sending email to fabric team.
Twitter Kit provides all the required functionalities and mechanism for making authenticated requests to Twitter's REST API.
Follow the configuration process here.
Using TWTRSession, you can request for TWTRUser object and that will have what you need.
This is the right way and advisable one too.
All the tutorial I found explains how to tweet and show an alert message if users cannot tweet.
What about if user hasn't logged in to twitter yet and I want to help user logged in to tweeter.
Basically we want to allow user to sign up to our services via facebook and twitter. We've taken care of facebook. Now we need to so it for twitter.
This are samples of tutorial I found
http://www.raywenderlich.com/5519/beginning-twitter-in-ios-5
I don't want to tweet. I just want to login first so I can store the users' twitter id on my database allowing it to save bookmarks, etc..
All I see is https://dev.twitter.com/docs/ios. It's not clear whether we have to compute the sig manually, do we have to open safari or what.
Did you go through api documentation on twitter integration to ios?
Here is a similar question.May be this will help you
If you want your users to login with their twitter accounts, you will have to register your application with Twitter to obtain a key to sign your requests. You can read more about this on Twitter Developer Page
I'm new to Facebook development and I'm running into trouble with what seems like it should be an easy task. I am building an iOS app for a client, and that client wants to display a number of their most recent status updates in the app, along with a link to their Facebook page. These statuses should be displayed to the user of the app even if they are not logged into Facebook or do not have a Facebook account saved on their device.
My research so far seems to indicate that I'll need to make a request to the Graph API using a user access token (which I can do successfully in the app using a token copied and pasted from the Graph API Explorer), but it seems that the only way to get a user access token from within the app is to log the user of the app into Facebook using their account credentials. This is not a good solution because I need to be able to display the client's statuses to the user whether they have are logged into a Facebook account or not. Is such a thing possible, and if so, how? I've been all over the docs and can't find a conclusive answer either way.
I know that we would approach it quite differently. We would have our own web service periodically pull what we needed off of google and store it on our own server, then we would use AFHTTPClient to pull this information down to our app. That way we wouldn't have to spoof anything with FaceBook or put any requirments on our users, such as logging into facebook. It would require that you have a service that your client maintains (or you could easily contract that for a cost).
I'm currently working on an app (iOS 6) where the user will be signing in using their facebook account.
In regards to this I have a few questions:
a) Since the app asks the user for permission to access cetain data (like: basic profile info, friend list, access to post to wall etc), I assume that the app based on it's app id will be somehow authenticated to access this information as long as the user doesn't restrict access through their facebook account.
b) will it be possible for example via a service application to authenticate with the same app id as the mobile app, and hence be able to collect data from the facebook users who authenticated with the app?
The purpose of my question is, that I would like do some analysis on the users using the iphone app, but I don't want the app to first download the information from facebook, and then pass it on to my service for analysis.
If the above is possible, could anyone please guide me in the direction of what it is that I need to do? Perhaps links to tutorials that describes this setup, og simply tell me the right facebook terminology that I'm looking for to achive this.
Thanks in advance!
It's a bit late and you may have already picked a service. I have been using Parse.com
(tutorial site). They're very good. They have SDKs and sample code for many platforms a RESTful service for others.
They have recently been acquired by FaceBook, and already have strong links to Facebook's SDK.
I need to know as to how to implement oAuth in an iphone application.
I have already gone through lot many posts but none of them shows as to How to retrieve tweets from a user profile (like we access facebook wallposts). I tried using an example named bengottlieb/Twitter-OAuth-iPhone but all it does is show the Login prompt and posts a sample Twit at my Twitter profile.
I need to make an application where
the user can view twits for a particular page (same as accessing the wall post for a Page)
Post tweets that will appear on his profile or if possible then also at the profile page for given ID
I was able to fetch the tweets for a particular id using http://search.twitter.com/search.json?ID but may be due to closing of Basic authentication it does not return to me tweets older than a specific time period.
The Twitter search API is not meant to retrieve the tweets from one particular user, even though it does seem to work (up to a certain point back in time). As far as I know the search API does not need authentication, so you're not in trouble regarding the deprecation of Basic authentication there.
To retrieve the tweets for a user, you need to retrieve their timeline. Be sure to use OAuth authentication, as indeed Basic authentication no longer works now.
Check out http://dev.twitter.com/ for more information. The API is documented quite well. You mention basic authentication, so perhaps you could start with http://dev.twitter.com/pages/basic_to_oauth to get you going?
