I have a .txt file with a small password in it. I would like to change that file's text. How can I do that? I can get the file's text using :
NSString *passWord = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:#"password" ofType:#"txt"] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:NULL];
But I can't seem to find a way to replace the contents of the file with a string.
The way to do this is to remove old file and create new one.
Removing existing file
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *filePath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"myFile.txt"];
NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
if([fileManager fileExistsAtPath:filePath])
{
[fileManager removeItemAtPath:filePath error:&error];
}
To crate new file with your new password write password data while creating file as:
[createFileAtPath:path contents:[NSData data] attributes:nil]

I have an app that I want to save a username for each person that I play a game with and then retrieve it into an array that can be used to create headers for a tableview. I am using this code to save the files.
NSError *error;
NSFileManager *fileMgr = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSArray *documentPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [documentPaths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *slash2 = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:#"/Names"];
if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:slash2])
[[NSFileManager defaultManager] createDirectoryAtPath:slash2 withIntermediateDirectories:NO attributes:nil error:&error1];
//yourName is the userName of the challenger
NSString *fullPath = [slash2 stringByAppendingPathComponent:yourName];
and when I look at the path
NSLog(#"path :%#",fullPath);
I get
"Names/Mary",
"Names/John",
I would like to then get these names form the documents directory into an array to use is the tableview. I have tried
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *slasha = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"/Names"];
NSArray *arrayFromFile = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:slasha];
for (NSString *element in arrayFromFile)
NSLog(#"Names: %#", element);
but nothing shows up
What am I doing wrong and how can I do this
user1114881,
Creating folders to show challengers name in tableView header, Seriously ??? I will say its a very wrong approach.
That being said, now let me fix your problem,
NSError *error;
NSFileManager *fileMgr = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSArray *documentPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [documentPaths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *slash2 = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:#"/Names"];
if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:slash2])
[[NSFileManager defaultManager] createDirectoryAtPath:slash2 withIntermediateDirectories:NO attributes:nil error:&error1];
//yourName is the userName of the challenger
NSString *fullPath = [slash2 stringByAppendingPathComponent:yourName];
BOOL Success = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] createFileAtPath:fullPath contents:nil attributes:nil];
Mistake you were doing was, you never created a file for the user, you just created a folder called Names. You need to call createFileAtPath to create file.
In order to read all the files in folder use
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *slasha = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"/Names"];
NSArray * directoryContents = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:slasha error:nil];
You must be able to see the list of all files inside folder Names now :)
Happy coding.
In my app, I load data from a CSV file stored in the bundle resources. However, I'd like to be able to update this file programmatically when the user taps the Update button. Is there a way to change a resource in the app bundle programatically? Here is the code I use to access the file:
NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:#"query_result" ofType:#"csv"];
NSArray *rows = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfCSVFile:path];
First of all load file from bundle and after that just store in Document directory then you can make change on this file again save on document directory to access changed file.
Use this code copy from mainbundle to Document.
NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSError *error;
NSString *dataPath = [[self applicationDocumentsDirectory] stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"tessdata"];
NSLog(#"Datapath is %#", dataPath);
// If the expected store doesn't exist, copy the default store.
if ([fileManager fileExistsAtPath:dataPath] == NO)
{
NSString *tessdataPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:#"eng" ofType:#"traineddata"];
[fileManager copyItemAtPath:tessdataPath toPath:dataPath error:&error];
}
-(NSString*) applicationDocumentsDirectory{
// Get the documents directory
NSArray *dirPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *docsDir = [dirPaths objectAtIndex:0];
return docsDir;
}
And then get the Saved file to change...
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory,
NSUserDomainMask,
YES);
NSString *fullPath = [[paths lastObject] stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"recentDownload.txt"];
Hello i am trying to copy text file from document directory into folder name Temp that located in document directory.
Here is some of code i tried and didn't work.
self.fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSError *error;
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *documentsDirectoryToTemp = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/Temp/",[paths objectAtIndex:0]];
NSString *txtPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.txt",tblGetNameToMove.textLabel.text]];
[self.fileManager copyItemAtPath:txtPath toPath:documentsDirectoryToTemp error:&error];
How can i do that?
There could be many reasons for this :
First try to print all the path like documentsDirectoryToTempn and txtPath whether it is correct or not .
The second thing is make use that error variable :
if(error)
{
NSLog("Error while coping :%#",[error localizedDiscription]);
}
so you can track exact problem .
Here is solution. I need to add directory and also name of file and extension.
Here is codes.
self.fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSError *error;
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *txtPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#.txt",tblGetNameToMove.textLabel.text]];
NSString *fileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/Temp/%#.txt",documentsDirectory,tblGetNameToMove.textLabel.text];
[self.fileManager copyItemAtPath:txtPath toPath:fileName error:&error];
I'm trying to use the app's Documents directory to store images, and later access then with a webview with html. I tried using the /var/mobile/Applications/id/Documents but that didn't work. Is there a way to access those files in the webview?
For save image you have to download image like a NSMutableData in your Cache directory:
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *cachesDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString* filePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#/imageTemp.png",cachesDirectory];
[imageData writeToFile:filePath atomically:YES];
After donwload you can move your image to your Document directory:
NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
NSArray *arrayPath = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentPath = [arrayPath objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *cacheImagePath = filePath;
NSError *error;
[fileManager copyItemAtPath:cacheImagePath toPath:documentPath error:&error];
Turned out I missed a / so it should of been file:///var/mobile/Applications/id/Documents then it worked.
I have this code below:
NSString *fileName = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:#"recentDownload"];
NSString *fullPath = [NSBundle pathForResource:fileName ofType:#"txt" inDirectory:[NSHomeDirectory() stringByAppendingString:#"/Documents/"]];
NSError *error = nil;
[textViewerDownload setText:[NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:fullPath encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]];
textviewerdownload is the textview displaying the text from the file. The actual file name is stored in an NSUserDefault called recentDownload.
When I build this, I click the button which this is under, and my application crashes.
Is there anything wrong with the syntax or just simple error?
The NSBundle class is used for finding things within your applications bundle, but the Documents directory is outside the bundle, so the way you're generating the path won't work. Try this instead:
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory,
NSUserDomainMask,
YES);
NSString *fullPath = [[paths lastObject] stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"recentDownload.txt"];
NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
NSString *myPathDocs = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:#"myfile.txt"];
if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:myPathDocs])
{
NSString *myPathInfo = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:#"myfile" ofType:#"txt"];
NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager];
[fileManager copyItemAtPath:myPathInfo toPath:myPathDocs error:NULL];
}
//Load from File
NSString *myString = [[NSString alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:myPathDocs encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:NULL];
This worked for me
Anyway, thank you all..
