ExecCommand 'removeformat' for Firefox does not remove text-align - editor

I have a div in the editor of FF :
<div align='right'>asdasd</div>
and
<div style="text-align:right">asdasd</div>
When I select either of these and fire this command using JS :
document.execCommand('removeformat',false,null);
These justifications are not removed. WHile this happens on Chrome.

First, take a look on Stack Overflow question Javascript: execCommand(“removeformat”) doesn't strip h2 tag and its answers.
The editing command removeFormat does in Chrome more than it should do according to currently last proposal of HTML Editing APIs. The div element is not listed as editable HTML element with local name. And text alignment is also not listed on point 7 listing the formatting properties which should be reset by this command.
The editing command removeFormat is proposed for removing formatting from text and not from blocks (paragraphs).
But the behavior of Chrome is nevertheless not wrong as at the moment (2015-01-25) there is no official standard for the HTML Editing APIs and command removeFormat. So every browser can have implemented whatever the developers of this browser thought is useful for this command.
You better code the removing of text alignment property with other methods of JavaScript.

aria-live on textarea not working with JAWS

I am using html textarea to simulate a command prompt. On typing a command command (e.g. ipconfig) and hitting Enter key, the command output gets appended to to the text. To read the output I have added aria-live="polite" attribute to the textarea which works fine with NVDA screen reader. However, JAWS on IE, starts reading from the top every time a command is entered. How do I make it read only the newly appended text like NVDA does?
So far I have tried aria-relevant="additions", role=log, role=alert attributes but nothing seems to work.
enter code here
<textarea id="commandPrompt" aria-live="polite"
rows="5" cols="45" wrap="off" spellcheck="false">
</textarea>
IN theory, you should be able to define precisely what should be read using aria-relevant and aria-atomic.
Unfortunately, Jaws doesn't follow standards very well. These two attributes are known not to always work as expected with Jaws, depending on the browser used, the element to which they are applied, etc.
This is probably not the answer you wanted to have, but if Jaws doesn't do what you expect, the only solution is most likely to put the text to be spoken in another element.
In a div or span you are much more mikely to have the expected behavior.

ruby on rails: text filed formatting

I tried to copy and past from Word document to text field using Ruby on Rails.
But all formatting( spaces, bold and other) are disappeared on text filed.
I've just got the simple lines of text without any formatting.
I've read that need to use Simple format tool... but I want that a user be able just to copy and past a text to text field without doing any adjustments.
I mean, I want make all adjustment in advance and the user could just copy and past the text and got all formatting, the same as in Word doc.
The link to file with text field as below.
https://gist.github.com/tatyana12/2f9d39c2f6e4f8fabea5e70e11eaf310
Also I have Application.html.erb file:
https://gist.github.com/tatyana12/15c27d542091b04f3c3adfdfd252b7f4
How to initialize editor if I don't have id = "edit" right now?
How to put some code extra style to this file?
Have a go at wrapping your field in your show.html.erb or wherever you want to display it with simple_format, for example:
<%= simple_format(#object.description) %>
See http://apidock.com/rails/ActionView/Helpers/TextHelper/simple_format for more info.
I've solved this problem by implementing SKEditor.
There is a lot of tutorial how to implement this editor.
I (as a lot of other users) have problem that my text wasn't formatted because this editor is not compatible with turbo links.
So, I disable turbo links in some files, and as result I have the text formatted.

Orbeon changed behavior for xforms:alert / xforms:h3lp

[Stackoverflow disallows the word help in the title. Hence the h3lp]
We are in the proces of moving our code from Orbeon 3.9 to Orbeon 4.x. One of the many things that changed is the behavior for display of xforms:alert and xforms:help. Example code:
<xforms:input ref="#code">
<xforms:alert ref="$resources/required-field"/>
<xforms:help ref="$helptext"/>
</xforms:input>
In Orbeon 3.9 the alert is displayed as a red img with a white exclamation mark that has the text as tooltip, only if the binding fails. The help is displayed as a blue-ish image with a question that activated a tiny pseudo window containing the (potentially large) help text.
In Orbeon 4.7 the alert text is displayed as-is, no image and no condition based on binding. This interferes with a carefully designed interface as it takes up a lot more space. The help text is not displayed at all because .xforms-help has display: none;. Overriding that doesn't work because the text would then just be displayed inline.
I could not find documentation for these changes. Does anyone know the rationale and how to make "alert" and "help" useful yet again?
There are two changes with Orbeon Forms 4.x which might be relevant to this:
The HTML layout of elements has changed a bit. This means existing CSS might have to be adapted. You can check this by comparing the HTML produced by 3.9 vs. 4.x for a given page. With 4.x, all form elements, for example, are wrapped within a <span> or <div> element.
Form Runner uses Twitter Bootstrap as a CSS library. But the Bootstrap CSS files are also included for non-Form Runner pages.
This said, "red icon" alerts should still work, see for example the good old Espresso Order or Bookcast demos.
If you see alerts inline and unconditionally, it means that somehow the proper CSS doesn't apply, either because of the HTML layout change mentioned above, or because some CSS files are missing.

wysiwyg editor which uses paragraph tags

I must have looked at at least 15 different editors and all of them seem to use <br/> tags for their line breaks. I would very much prefer to find one which wraps each return with paragraph tags.
Thanks.
Depending on what you are trying to do, the wysiwyg editor built into wordpress uses paragraph tags.
Also I've noticed that most editors use a line break for a single return, but use a paragraph tag for two returns.
I don't know what you might have searched for, but the 2 main WYSIWYG editors are CKEditor and tinyMCE and both of them take do generate paragraphs by default. I think than in tinyMCE you can't control it, but CKEditor allows to specify if you want to use p, br or div for enter and shift+enter.

FreeTextBox tabs are not preserved at postback

We are using the FreeTextBox 3.1.6 on an intranet. The control appears on an ASP.Net project built in Visual Studio 2008.
When clients enter tabs in the text box, those tabs do not get preserved at postback. Rather, the tabs are lost. Other text formatting, like bold, italics, or font size are preserved.
Even when the postback event that occurs on the web page does not save anything to a database we are loosing the tabs. According to http://wiki.freetextbox.com/default.aspx/FreeTextBoxWiki.Installation the JavaScript and XML used by FreeTextBox are stored in a dll. So I cannot edit the contents of those files.
Has anyone encountered this issue with FreeTextBox? If so, how did you resolve it?
Here is the behavior that occurs. Enter text with tabs in the FreeTextBox control.
alt text http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4826/ftb1postcz4.gif
Then select the "Save" button. This is a command button that posts back the page. In my test scenario nothing gets saved and loaded from a database. The FreeTextBox control is strictly displaying text that was posted. My guess is that the mechanism handling that is in ViewState, but I'm not sure about that.

As you can see, all of the tabs are gone. Even the tabs inserted between words are gone.
Thanks for your help.

Setting TabMode to "InsertSpaces" did not resolve this. My source code for instantiating the control is below. Pictures I posted didn't previously show up. Visit these links to see them.

I found the answer. The original programmer had code that intercepted the contents of the textbox when it was submitted. That code reformatted the text for special currency characters like the Yen, Euro, and Pound.
Here is what the code looked like.
Dim hstrg As String = txtDocument.Text
Dim f As New FreeTextBoxControls.Support.Formatter
hstrg = f.HtmlToXhtml(hstrg)
What fixed the issue was commenting out that HtmlToXhtml() method. We don't need the contents to be Xhtml compatible, so this was a viable option for us.
i've been using free text box in some of my former development, but it had some quirks and wouldn't work right in IE.
try moving to FCKEditor, or TinyMCE. they seem like much better experience than FTB. i've chosen FCK, and i think WordPress uses TinyMCE. try them if a switch of editor is an option.
