After installing Umbraco 7, apparently the default currency symbol is pound (£).
How do you change that to dollar ($)?
I tried adding this line in web.config but it didn't do anything.

I believe this functionality hasn't changed from previous versions so you need to set the culture for the domain at the root/homepage node of your content branch.
If the culture isn't listed, you need to add it under the "Settings > Languages" section.
Here's detailed steps on how to set the locale of the Umbraco site, this will set the currency & language.
1. Add the language
Settings > Languages > Create > Select the required language > Create
2. Apply the language
Content > Select the root node > Actions (top right) > Culture and Hostnames > Select the language you just added > Save
3. Remove the unused language - for housekeeping
Settings > Languages > Select the unused language > Delete

I'm having a weird problem or maybe i failed to understand how Grails i18n mechanism works.
I inserted the following to my index.gsp file:
LocaleContextHolder.locale: '${org.springframework.context.i18n.LocaleContextHolder.locale}'
java.util.Locale.getDefault(): '${java.util.Locale.getDefault()}'
RequestContextUtils.getLocale(request): '${org.springframework.web.servlet.support.RequestContextUtils.getLocale(request)}'
session['SessionLocaleResolver.LOCALE']: '${session['org.springframework.web.servlet.i18n.SessionLocaleResolver.LOCALE']}'
This code snippet should print the Locale, and it does like so:
LocaleContextHolder.locale: 'iw'
java.util.Locale.getDefault(): 'en_US'
RequestContextUtils.getLocale(request): 'iw'
session['SessionLocaleResolver.LOCALE']: ''
The above is my default output when i run the given code snippet.
I tried to understand what exactly affects this variables so i did the next steps:
I changed Chrome's Locale
Settings --> Show advanced settings --> Language and input settings)
I changed my operating system's locale (Windows 7)
Control panel --> Region and language --> Format + Location + System locale
After those changes i rebooted my computer and expected the values of the locale variables to change, but they still remain the same.
I'm aware i can change the Locale with the ?lang parameter & with some code, but i'm interested in letting Grails to decide which Locale to pick.
What exactly affects those variables? how does Grails decide the machine's locale?

I use Sublime text. Now I am trying Atom. When I save any file in sublime text it does not include any trailing blank line. But saving any file in Atom leaves a trailing blank line. How do I force Atom not to leave trailing white spaces?
Under your Atom Preferences go to Packages tab and search for whitespace. Click on the whitespace package and uncheck Ensure Single Trailing Newline option
On global level this can be changed using settings in Whitespace package, but if you want to disable it for a specific language you have to use syntax-scoped properties in your config.cson.

I experienced this issue when working on a Rails Application.
I added a .editorconfig file with the following properties:

trim_trailing_whitespace = false
And I added a .gitattributes file with the following properties:

And then my Atom Editor threw a problem:
1 problem affecting .gitattributes
whitespace: It is possible that the "whitespace"-package prevents the following properties from working reliably: insert_final_newline, trim_trailing_whitespace. You may try reconfiguring or disabling the "whitespace"-package to solve regarding issues.
Here's how I fixed it:
Open your Atom Editor
Go to Edit > Preferences > Packages
Type in whitespace
Click on the package that shows up
Untick the following:
Ensure Single Trailing Newline
Ignore Whitespace On Current Line
Leave Ignore Whitespace Only Lines unticked
Save and close the settings.
That's all.

Well I'm using Sublime Text 2 for a lot of tasks, included the creation of documents with LaTeX. I downloaded and installed the alignmentpackage and works great when I want to align respect the = symbol. But in LaTeX I need to align also with respect to & and sometimes % but I don't understand where or how can I custom that. I read the documentation about that package here, and now I see I must go to Preferences > Package Settings > Alignment > Settings – User but there the only I see is:

On my mac you would need to look at Alignment/Base File.sublime-settings

The contents of the file you listed is actually your user system preferences, not the user settings file for Alignment.

I need to use variable in WIX localization file WIXUI_en-us.wxl.
I tried use it like this:

But it doesn't work. And when I declared property and used it this way:

Localization strings are processed at link time, so you can't use $(var) preprocessor variables. Using a [property] reference is supported, as long as the place where the localization string is used supports run-time formatting (e.g., using the Formatted field type).
Your second method should work just fine. This is the same method used by the default .wxl files.
For example, in your .wxl file you would declare your string:
<String Id="Message_Foo">Foo blah blah [Property1]</String>
And in your .wxs file, you declare the property. If you wish, you can declare the property to match a WiX variable (which it sounds like you're trying to do)
<Property Id="Property1">$(var.Property1)</Property>
I was trying to get localization file to use variables. Came across this post:
There are different layers of variables in WiX (candle's preprocessor
variables, Light's WixVariables/localization variables/binder
variables, and MSI's properties). Each have different syntax and are

Now, the environment variable COMPUTERNAME always has held the name of
my build machines in the past, and you can access that this way:

Preprocessor variables $(var.VariableName) are are processed at link time, so ideally you would use [PropertyName] which would be defined on the main Product element.
The issue sometimes is that property is not yet defined, for instance using the product name on the localization file seems not posible.
This solution was done aiming to only type the product name once given "Super product" as product name:
In case of running through visual studio extension:
Project properties -> Build -> Define variables -> "MyProductName=Super product" (No quotes)
In case of runing from cmd or some other place:
On Light.exe, add -d"MyProductName=Super product"
Into the localization .wxl file:
<String Id="Description" Overridable="yes">Description of !(wix.MyProductName)
to make it more interesting</String>
