I found out, that $ConfigurationName doesnt work on the Post-Build events in VS2010.
It has to be $(Configuration) as far as I've seen.
My problem now: The TFS-Buildserver seems to ignore this change:
If I check in the Change on the Solution and query a Build and open the Log, I still see "ConfigurationName" instead of Development or another Configuration.
Interesting enought, if I navigate trough the folders to the tfs output directory in the BuildsLogs folder, I see the correct value in the Log file, which is: Development
With this value a Batch-File gets called. I inserted a small test to check, which value gets passed:
copy "..\Configure_Development_Server.cmd" %2\Config\%4.txt /Y
%4 should be the Configuration name.
Sadly, in the output I still get a ConfigurationName.txt file, not the wanted Development.txt.
Could you tell me, how I tell the Buildserver to take the new Postbuild event, and not the old one? At the moment, it seems like it's kindahow splitted between the old and the new one.

Hoping someone here can shed some light on an issue I've been having with Automator. For work, we needed something to auto-generate folders & sub folders based on answering 2 questions. The first asks for "Job No", and the second asks for "Job name". Whatever the user answers sets 2 variables - one for Job No and the other for "Job name".
This works well. From here I have a shell script which then generates specific folder structures which inherit the Job No ( example - CF1005 ) , using a folder renaming action in Automator. This works quite well, except foe the subfolders.
The initial set of folders are renamed correctly. That is, they have the Job No added to them as a prefix. However it's the sub-folders that's causing the issue. Sometimes one of the subfolders is renamed correctly, other times it's a few folders. See below:

As you can see, the folders with XX_ as the prefix aren't bring renamed with the Job No. Please note, this isn't always the case. It's hit and miss. The only thing I can think of is timing. I suspect the renaming action is being executed while the folders & subfolders are still being created by the OS?? I'm stumped. I've added some pauses and that seems to give me a higher success rate, but it's not a 100% success rate. Here's a screengrab of my workflow:

Can someone here shed some light on what the issue might be? Last note. At present we can't run this app within a box.com folder. It issues us with an error. Not sure if someone here can help with is, but I thought I'd ask.
It seems to me the problem is the Get Selected Finder Items action, which I can't quite see the sense of. Instead, try it this way (beginning with the Pause action):
The Find Finder Items action gathers just the files you need and passes them straight into the rename action (after another short pause).
I just started with using jenkins, and learning a lot.

One thing i can figure out is about File operations plugin.
I don't know how to set up just simple "copy, paste" from one location to another.

The include file pattern wants an ANT style filter (relative to your workspace as the root).
Include File Pattern: myWorkspaceSubFolder\*.txt
Target location also assumes the root workspace though I guess you can redirect it to another drive.
Several times a day I receive this error while running my asp.net mvc4 project. I am not asking what that means, or how to fix it, but what am I doing to cause it? It is really starting to bug me, and if I can cause it to go away by altering my workflow I will.
Cannot create/shadow copy '< assembly >' when that file already exists.
As I mentioned above the project is an MVC4 application. My workflow is typically.
Make a change (code or html)
If it was code, rebuild the project (using keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+B)
refresh the page
see annoying error
clean the solution
rebuild solution
refresh page
verify change
goto 10
(I get the error with/without the debugger attached.) I will be eternally grateful to anyone who can inform me on how to avoid this error, and will promptly tweet your praises
I find this annoying too. It seems to happen when you try to refresh the page in a browser before the build is fully complete. Try counting to three-one-thousand after build is complete and then refresh in the browser. Create/shadow copy should be done by that point.
I also don't think you should need to "clean solution". I believe a rebuild is a clean + build, so you may be cleaning twice.
After a bit of research, I also found this pre-build event which seems to be popular. (this workaround does not seem to work, perhaps it did in previous versions of VS / .NET framework)
Update: alternate solution
Another way to get by this is, when you see the YSOD, just type in a different URL in the browser and load it instead. Then click the back button and refresh to get to the page you were trying to reload in the first place.
What's causing this error seems to be doing the shadow copy (stating the obvious...), ie generating a file in one folder and then reading it to copy it elsewhere. I think what's causing the issue is generating or not that first file, and when/how it's copied, regardless of what your actions are. Does this first file (that will be shadow copied) needs regenerating, and therefore re-shadow copied?
This post says:
By default shadow copy is enabled on every appdomain created by ASP.NET. Assemblies loaded will be copied to a shadow copy cache directory, and will be used from there. So that the original file is not locked and can be modified.
And their fix is to prevent shadow copy. But I don't personnally fully understand what shadow copy does in the asp.net context, maybe someone can clarify if there are any bad side effect to disabling it:

This post talks about disabling indexing and/or antivirus, which would suggest that building the project generates new files, and the antivirus (or indexing service) accesses them and locks them, just when the shadow copy is trying to copy that exact same file.
I get his error regularly and never found what specific action I do causes the error. I make a code change, press F5 (Run/ Play button), get the error in the web browser, close the web browser, press F5 again. It now works. I don't clean, I don't rebuild. However, with the second F5/Run, I believe VS detects there's been no code change, and therefore, maybe the shadow copy is not redone? Or maybe this time the shadow copy is timed slightly differently and it works.
I received this error after adding a new image to my web project.
In VS, each image has a property entitled "Copy to Output Directory". I chose "Copy Always", then I got the message.
I changed it to "Do Not Copy" - now it is happy.

just tried to create a snapshot of one of my projects. It didn't work, and Xcode did throw the following error at me: "Unable to create a snapshot. fatal: You don't exist. Go away!"
Source control commit doesn't work either. Ok, obviously there's something wrong with my local repository. I don't have the slightest idea, what that could possibly be, though. I have not committed in quite a while, but except some updates to Xcode itself, nothing major happened to the project folder, as far as I can remember.
So, what can I do about it? Is it possible to deactivate source control for that project and then start over again with source control with the projects current status? I don't need the previous versions anymore, so that doesn't need to be taken care of.

Looking into the git source code, this error message is generated only if
pw = getpwuid(getuid());
fails.
It indicates that the system wasn't able to find an entry for your user account in /etc/passwd or equivalent.
This can happen if your account is removed (via deluser, userdel, or something else) while you're logged in, or if you don't have read permissions on /etc/passwd (the latter should never happen).
Try the following commands at a terminal prompt:
whoami
id
ls -l /etc/passwd
grep "^${USER}:" /etc/passwd
According to the git documentation, this is the meaning of your particular error:
You don't exist. Go away!
The passwd(5) gecos field couldn't be read
This typically means the system doesn't know who you are (you'll see this sort of error on a Linux system if you delete someone's user account while they're still logged in). Is everything else working? That is, can you log out and log back in without a problem? Do other terminal commands operate correctly? What about the id command?
Can you interact with your repository on the command line? What happens if you cd into the directory and try something like git status?
WendiKidd's solution of just starting from scratch is probably the simplest thing to do, assuming it works, but you'll lose any change history already associated with your project.
I had this issue with git and running
dscacheutil -flushcache
in the terminal fixed it.
I would suggest creating a new project entirely, copying your code etc. files out of the old project, and simply migrating over into a new one (which you could then recommit to another source control directory). That seems like the easiest solution; this is a very odd error, and I've come across things in the past that are either unfixable or would take more effort to fix than taking 10-15 minutes to just set up a new project.
So that's what I'd recommend--hopefully that will fix your problem, and whatever xcode is mad at is in some hidden file or the .xcodeproj itself, and not in the files you'd need to migrate over.
Does anybody know how to (easily) "rename" an existing grails application? I'm running into this because my PaaS provider does not allow me to delete a subscription... So I want to deploy my application under a different name.
Of course, I can do this manually, but I think it might be a useful 'top-level' script (i.e. "grails rename-app newappname")
Manual hints:
When I do a "grails create-app myappname" I can see the myappname exists in the following files (and filenames)... Of course this is done by the create-app script, which replaces #...# tokens in the template. I guess once they are replaced, it's not trivial to do a rename.

I had to do this, I renamed my project top level directory to the new name and
edited the application.properties file. There is a line app.name=youroldappname which should be changed.
Actually, you do not even have to rename the directory. You could have a different web-app name.
Hmm, I know it doesn't look fun, but it shouldn't be difficult (just boring) to rename the project directory, then all the files with your project name in them (you can ignore .tmproj unless you use TextMate). Finally, a quick search through all the files for your old project name to replace and you should have it.
Oh! First, if you're using an IDE, you'll want to remove the project from the IDE, then re-import it once you've completed your renaming procedure.
As far as I know, nothing project-specific is stored anywhere except the project directory and below, so it's a very finite set to search, and you only have to do this once (I hope).
Not very elegant, I know, but brute force does have its uses.
I used the brute force Method and it worked for me. Took 5-10 minutes to find all files with the name in it and replace it with the new one. Also Netbeans was ok afterwards. The only thing that changed was the port number which I had to change again.
Just renaming works except when you are using plugins. They will be stored in the $USER_HOME/.grails/$GRAILS_VERSION/projects/OLDNAME folder.
So after renaming your project you "lost" your plugins. I haven't tried renaming the plugin's folder however just installing all your plugin works as well (at least with Google App Engine and gorm-jpa).
If only changing the web app name isn't enough you can try the rough way - make a backup before.
(In workspace folder)
zip -r oldname.zip oldname/
Then, in eclipse/ggts, use
Disable project, Build automatically
Search, File, Containing text : "oldname", Search
Right click on search results, Replace all, ... "newname"
Exit eclipse and rename all folders to the new project name. On Unix/Mac run
find . -name "oldname"
and mv the handful of results to properly reflect the new names.
For me it worked like a charm, but make sure your project name is not a keyword and reasonably unique.
