I've to use the aws-sdk gem in my rails application. The problem is that whenever I add it to my gemfile, the rails server does not start and gives me the following error:

It clearly points to line 5 of my environment.rb. I've checked and there's nothing there:

It's simply an initialize call. This doesn't happen if I remove aws-sdk from my gemfile. Help, please?
Psych is a yaml parser, and it looks like it is trying to parse an incorrectly formatted yaml file:
(<unknown>): found character that cannot start any token while scanning for the next token at line 2 column 1 (Psych::SyntaxError)
I happen to know that the aws-sdk gem attempts to read aws credentials from config/aws.yml. Do you have a file located there and is it correctly formatted?

Is the problem caused by the the version of rails I am using or the version of skylight or something else entirely?
I am using ruby 2.4.6p354 and rails 3.2.22.5
I have installed and tried to switch to rails 4.2.0 but that doesn't seem to be working, I think because in the gemfile there is a pessimistic version constraint of gem "rails" ,"~>3.2" but I could be completely wrong. I have been told not to change the gemfile.

UPDATE:
I do not think that it is with either the private_pub gem or the Sync gem(I tried using Sync just to make sure). Its still showing the same error. Since it says YAML is an uninitialized constant, i checked the function storing the YAML load and it looks like the following:

I'm first timer to Ruby on Rails, trying to set it up on RHEL 6. Since the package manager had very older version of Ruby. I compiled from source with Ruby 1.9.3 and installed rails using

I've tried to search about this error but did not find a working solution.
Apart from this I'd like to point me to some useful resource which explains best practices in Ruby on Rails.

I fixed the problem.
I went inside extracted source directory of Ruby then run these.
$cd /ext/openssl/
$ruby extconf.rb
$make
$make install
I hope other will get some help from this. :-)
Your ruby is not compiled with SSL support. Try using rvm:

I installed the Rails installer in my Win7 machine from http://railsinstaller.org/. I already had the Ruby 1.9.2-p290. After installing the ROR through the installer, I rain rails s to start the server and I get the following error. Could anybody help me understanding the reason of this error>?

RailsInstaller now supports Rails 3.1, but promise nothing about previous RC versions. Like #Fabio said, try to update to the latest Rails version (change it in your Gemfile). Also, if you already had a ruby version installed, be sure you are using the RailsInstaller one by checking your system environment path variable. The one and only path to Ruby should be :
C:\RailsInstaller\Ruby1.9.2\bin;

I am trying to disable the parts of rails that i'm not using in my application, such as ActionMailer. Ib my application.rb, I made the following change

And my app works fine. Now when I go and comment out the 'require "action_mailer/railtie"' line, I get the following error. I don't haveany mailers installed, so what's going on?

Be careful, config.frameworks is deprecated in Rails 3!
The error you've got is coming from the #18 line of the file development.rb :
config.action_mailer.raise_delivery_errors = false
Since you do not require it anymore, config.action_mailer is undefined. You just have to comment the line and you will be fine.
