I bought a new iPod touch today and I installed iOS 7 on it in order to beta test my new designs, color schemes, and speed enhancements. I'm running OSX 10.6.8 with Xcode 4.2 Build 4C199 (iOS 5). When I plugged my iPod in and pressed "use for development" in the xcode organizer I got an error saying that I couldn't use the iPod because the software version was too high. What should I do?
Use Xcode 5, which you can get from the same place you got iOS 7 from (provided you're a registered developer).
Regardless of the iOS version, you can not build to an iOS version higher than that of the SDK you have installed. Update your Xcode to the version that comes with the SDK that matches the iOS version you wish to build to.
You need to download and install the Xcode 5 beta

I am new for iOS and when I connect my iPad with my system it's showing an exception like in the image below.
I am using Xcode 6.1.1 and the iPad is running iOS 8.4.1.
[
If you're running iOS 8.4.1 on your iPad, then you'll need to upgrade to Xcode 6.4
additional reference
When you running on device then above problem occur, so You have to download new Xcode, Download Xcode 6.4 as below links.
XCode 6.4
You will require Xcode 6.4 in-order to mount your iPad: https://developer.apple.com/xcode/download/
This occurs when you plug in a device that is running an OS version above what your current version of Xcode is.
One solution is to always use the most recent non-beta versions of Xcode and iOS.
However, if you have a beta version of iOS on your device, but still want to develop and build with the non-beta release of Xcode, there is a workaround!
1) Have both the current release of Xcode, and the Xcode-beta installed on your machine.
2) Make sure they are both closed.
3) Plug-in your device.
4) Open Xcode-beta and allow it to recognize your device (process symbols...)
5) With phone still plugged-in, quit Xcode-beta.
6) Open stable Xcode version, and your device will be recognized!
I currently do this all the time because I have iOS 9 beta on my test device, but submitting apps to TestFlight using Xcode 7 (beta) is not yet supported, so I needed to use Xcode 6.4 as my main IDE.
Everything was working fine, I then upgraded to 7.1 on one of my devices (iPad mini) now XCode won't recognise it.
I found this answer here
XCode 5.1 Beta 4 not recognizing iOS 7.1 Beta 4 test device
But when I go to the organiser it just says
The version of iOS on “Mini iPad” is not supported by this
installation of the iOS SDK. Please restore the device to a version of
the OS listed below, or update to the latest version of the iOS SDK;
which is available here
But when I go to the link it just take me to the main screen of the Apple developer program (not signed in for some odd reason, when I'm already signed in), then what do I do?
You need to upgrade to XCode 5.1. The final version has been released.
When you upgrade iOS, you always need to upgrade even Xcode to the last version. Just open the MacAppStore to see the update.
The last version of Xcode is Version 5.1 (5B130a)
I have xcode 4.5.2 and iOS 6.0 sdk. I have been using my ipad 1 device for testing my app (building for ios5.0). I also have access to my daughters ipad 2 and want to test my app with this. The problem is when I use xcode organizer "use device for development" it says the device has software version 6.1.x and to use it I would need to upgrade to the latest version of IOS/xcode.
So my question is, what does this mean for testing on my ipad 1? Will I lose support for ios5.0? I'm afraid to download and install, for fear that I will lose this and won't be able to go back.
FYI, currently in xcode I can deploy to targets using 4.3, 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0. Can anyone with the latest xcode/ios tell me what's available in the deployment target drop down?
Sorry for the lame question...please don't flame me : )
Check in left-up side of screen select xcode>preference>download and see their SDK version iOS 6.0.1 available if not than you have to upgrade your xcode to xcode 4.6 and than you can redownload previous SDK from xcode>preference>download.
See here i have xcode 4.6 and supporting SDK from 4.3,5.0,5.1,6.0, and 6.1
I've just enrolled in the iOS dev program. I've an iPad2 running iOs 5.1.1 and am developing in XCode3.2.6.
I've gone through the steps to get a provisioning profile and use my iPad for development but it's not working... in XCode I see an iOS code signing Identity listed now but on trying to run on the device I get:
No provisioned iOS device is connected. Please check the Organizer to
view the status of any connected devices.
My device shows yellow in the Organize screen with message:
The version of iOS on XXXXX does not match any of the versions of
iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK.
Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or
update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is available here.

I assume it's some incompatibility between iOS version and SDK but what am I supposed to do? The organizer screen seems to let me change iOS but asks me where to find the file image, which I don't have. And I don't know how or where to install a different SDK.
Sorry if I explained this badly, I'm pretty lost here. Although I have my app working in the simulator I really don't follow all this provisioning/profile stuff even after reading through the starter guide.
Your Xcode is too old. You must upgrade to at least XCode 4.3. But to upgrade to XCode 4.3, your mac need to be running Lion. It's a hassle, but after that, you will be able to build for your iPad that is currently on iOS 5. Otherwise, you need a device that is on previous version of iOS, but that's not sustainable because apple has a way of "automatically updating" your software...(or because of some careless settings, of course)
1 Open Xcode 5 (You should have Xcode 5)
2 Choose your iPhone5 (iOS7 or +) on Device Selection in Xcode 5 for your app.
3 Close Xcode 5, and Open Xcode 4
4 Your iPhone5 with iOS7 can now be used as test device.
Hope this helps.
After today's announcement that iOS 6 Beta is available to developers today, I am wondering if I jump on the iOS 6 ASAP will I still be able to build my apps in progress on my device(iPhone) from Xcode 4.3.2? or will there be a required update for Xcode as well?
Update: Currently I have iOS 6 on my iPhone and Xcode 4.5 installed. After that the organizer in Xcode (4.3.2 and 4.5) said 'could not support development' in the Provisioning. Then fixed that, and now I have 4.3.2 saying that it is running my app on my iPhone, but its not showing up on my phone. And 4.5 gets to the 'TakingInstallLock' point in the process, and just keeps trying, but getting nowhere. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know of a solution?
You can push apps to your phone from Xcode 4.3.x if your phone is running the iOS 6 Beta.
You cannot, however, utilize any of the iOS 6+ frameworks such as the new Social framework from within Xcode 4.3.x
I can't comment yet so this is to confirm that installing Xcode 4.5 DP acutally installs the iOS 6 SDK for Xcode 4.3.2 as well. This is rather obvious as SDK files are installed in a general place (namely the Library folder) of OSX.
The steps to use your updated iOS 6 device for development with Xcode 4.3.2 thus are:
Download Xcode 4.5 DP from the dev area of apple.com.
Install Xcode 4.5
Start up Xcode 4.3.2
Open up the devices section, choose your device for development, wait for the process of fetching information to finish and you are good to go.
Regards!
Any apps that you write using beta software will be rejected. To translate, if you use iOS 6 SDK beta or the new Xcode beta that gets released today, your app will be rejected even if you make a build for just iOS 5.
I installed iOS6 and Xcode 4.3.2 didn't recognize my device. After installing Xcode 4.5 beta and letting it install a few things, 4.3.2 now recognizes my device and I can carry on building and testing on my iOS6 device.
I would say no!
I updated last night and now I can't run my app on my phone.
