I'm having a array of dates in this dd MMM yyyy format.Now I need to separate month and year in separate arrays from this array. Now if I select particular month and year say if I bind the year and month arrays in UIpickerview and select a particular year and month I need to get the corresponding list of dates in that year and month which was the dates in previous original array. For eg if Jan and 2012 are selected I need to get dates like {01 Jan 2012,05 Jan 2012,..28 Jan 2012} . I'm a beginner in objective C any help will be appreciated.
First convert your string to NSDate by using NSDateFormatter, then using comparator extract day,month and year from the date, change the date format to your required format.

I am trying to get the days of a week in reference to their date.
Ex.: 14th October is a Wednesday.
I am creating a collection view cell and displaying the date as follows.
In the 14th cell it would display Wednesday, but how to get the next day as Thursday, then Friday...and so on.

You already got everything in place. You should be getting the correct day name in the convertedDateString string. You just have to add 24 hours to your todayDate object and use the dateformatter again to get the next day.

Today is Nov 10. The date I saved is Nov 18. But the number of days difference is 7, instead of 8.
Your time zone is -8. 2013-11-17 16:00:00 +0000 equals to 2013-11-18 00:00:00 -0800.
Use [NSTimeZone timeZoneForSecondsFromGMT:0] instead of [NSTimeZone localTimeZone]

The problem is that [NSDate date] is the current date+time, not the start of the current day. For example, if
[NSDate date] = "2013-11-10 10:00:00"
dateSaved = "2013-11-18 00:00:00" (both in your *local* timezone)
then the difference between
these two dates is "7 days and 14 hours". Therefore you get 7 as the number of days.
So you have to calculate the start of the current day first:

I need to get the weekday of the first day of the month. For example, for the current month September 2013 the first day falls on Sunday.
At first, get the first day of current month (for example):

You can also increment or decrement the month if needed.
Depending on the output you need you may use NSDateFormatter (as it was already said) or you may use NSDateComponents class. NSDateFormatter will give you a string representation, NSDateComponents will give you integer values. Method weekday may do what you want.

I couldn't an easy method to do so, is there build in functionality in to the NSDateFormater? should I implement it myself?
I don't think there is built in functionality in NSDateFormatter to do this. However, Apple has an example of how to get the NSDate values for the first and last days of a the week given a date. Here's their example on getting the Sunday of the current week:
