I assume my problem is an easy one but currently I have some difficulties.
I want to use a ViewOne as touch-input view - for example an UIImageView
and another view that will handle and use all those touch events. Could be an UIWebView
View1 = touchInputView
View2 = TouchHandlingView
Can't I just say something like View1.touchDelegate = View2

I'm trying to add a sliding photo gallery functionality to the top portion of a view.
To give context, a user taps on a button or row or something. Then i load a scrollview with a uistackview in it. organized vertically, i had an image, and then another stack view with some text in it. Now, i want that image to become part of a larger "gallery". My research told me to implement UIPageviewcontroller and add the other images to a childVC.

the only relevant deviation from the tutorial my app has is that it creates things programmatically.
With my proof of concept for the gallery functionality, i wanted to integrate it with the previously mentioned stack view. my plan was to first add the pageviewcontroller stuff into the overall stack view with the original image view right below it and then simply remove the original image view to leave me the final product.
i was able to add the pageviewcontroller.view to the stackview, but the gallery doesn't show. taking a look at the UI Inspector, i can see that the gallery is kinda loaded, but it's messed up.
it's as if the uiview has a frame of 0 height and so the other stack view items don't respect the images that the pageviewcontroller is trying to show.
I think it could be that stack views can only handle specific views, not stuff as complicated as pageviewcontrollers.
also note: my implementation is all programmatic, no storyboards, and so for no xibs. so maybe i missed something here.

if this method isn't going to work, can i do a nested horizontal stack view instead of the pageviewcontroller and somehow get that same scrolling/snap effect to see on image view at a time?
TLDR;
Create a subclass of UIPageViewController, make it it's own delegate.
Initialize the subclass with a plain UIViewController, only set a backgroundcolor.
In the pageviewcontroller subclass, implement the two delegate callbacks for a next and previous viewcontroller: create a plain viewcontrolller, with some random backgroundcolor.
If this works, replace the plain viewcontroller by your actual contentviewcontroller.

It might help, as it explains the details of UIPageViewController. Basically, you need to create a viewController (not a view!), that shows one page of the gallery. So this VC has a stackview, and manages the content of it. The pageviewcontroller is initialized with your first contentviewController. If you create a subclass of the uipageviewcontroller, you can set self of that subclass as the delegate of it. Implement the delegate callbacks that return the next or previous viewController and thats it. For this last part, it is convenient to have a property on the contentviewcontroller from which the subclasses of the pageviewcontroller can figure out what data to set on the next or previousviewcontroller.
Your title seeks to hint at some confusion: its not possible to add a viewcontroller to a view. You can only add other views to a (stack)view. A viewcontroller owns and manages a viewhierarchy. A pageviewcontroller has no content, but manages the insertion and removal of viewcontrollers. as the pageviewcontroller is a containerviewcontroller, it will als take the contentViewcontrollers' views and place them in the viewhierarchy. But this is not something your code has to do when you subclass UIPageViewControlller and implement it's delegates on itself (and don't forget to assign self to be the delegate).
I have a view with some UI components and a button on it, upon touch of a button I want to show a half view with some textfields on it overlapping the initial view, the initial view should be visible partly , the overlapping view will cover only half screen from bottom. Is this possible ?
I don't have any code as I am unable to figure out what it needs to be done, as we show any view it covers the entire screen.

there are several ways you can do this, here are two:
1) add a popover controller that gets displayed on your button press:

2) add the new view as a subview to your UIViewController
PROGRAMICALLY:
in the viewDidLoad function you can do the following to initialize the halfScreenView

-more logic might be needed if you support Landscape orientation, you can always re-assign the location of the view with halfScreenView.frame.origin and halfScreenView.frame.size
-initially you can have this view be hidden
halfScreenView.hidden = YES;
-when you click the button it will show the overlaying view:
halfScreenView.hidden = NO;
USING STORYBOARD:
you can also set up your overlaying view in the storyboard if you have one
-drag a UIView into your UIViewController and set it up where you want it to be located
-initialize the view to be hidden by checking the hidden box in the attribute inspector
-add the view as a property to your view
-manage when to show this view with self.halfScreenView.hidden
-this technique allows you to customize what is inside the new view within the storyboard which is nice
FOR BOTH:
-be careful with layers, you don't want your view to show up behind the one you already present. In the storyboard the last thing inserted goes on top. With in the code you can always access/change the views z position with halfScreenView.layer.zPosition (higher z values are on top)
First create a new class subclassing UIViewController called SecondView (or whatever you want), then design the UI the way you want (in its .xib file)
Then go to your main view controller's file and make an IBAction for that button.
In that method, write:

[self.view addSubview:second.view];
This will add it to the bottom half of the screen. Put your own parameters for its height and width. When you want to dismiss the view, you can do this inside your SecondView class

You can deal with the textFields from within the SecondView class and have them communicate with your other view by doing the following in SecondView.h

Yes, assuming you are using Interface Builder, go ahead and build the overlapping view and hook up all of the IBOutlets and IBActions. Say this view is called myView. Set myView.hidden = YES and myView.enabled = NO. This hides and disables myView so that it isn't even there from the user's perspective. In the appropriate button's IBAction, change the hidden and enabled properties to YES. That will make the view visible and active again.
I understand how to implement UISwipeGestureRecognizer, but I do not understand how to use multiple views properly in collaboration with it.
My ultimate goal is to provide a sleek interface where buttons or swiping may be used to change views. I am hoping for a constant background rather than a background image show it is transferring to the exact same image again. I am using storyboarding currently where each view has its own controller, and I would like (if possible) to keep it as close to this format for visual clarity of what is going on.
I have read that subviews may be my best hope for this sort of scenario (keeping them to the right until a swipe is called), but that would break up the current storyboarding structure I am using, and most certainly ruin any visual clarity.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I did same programmatically, but you can achieve same using storyboard
1. You need base view which will keep same background
2. Add 3 Views (or 2 depending on ur requirement) Left, Middle, Right with transparent backgrounds as follows in viewDidLoad of base view controller

You could use a navigation to do this. If you don't want the navigation bar, you can hide it. You can connect the left swipe gesture recognizer to a segue to the next controller, and connect the right swipe gesture recognizer to an unwind segue (or call popViewControllerAnimated: from its action method). If you want a constant background, then you need to add that to the navigation controller's view (as a background color), and have the child view controller's views be transparent (or partially so). This code in the navigation controller's root view controller will add the background:

I know exactly what you're talking about and I'm actually doing the same with my current project.
I accomplished this by using Interface Builder and a single view controller. Basically I placed a UIImageView in the view and set it to the background you wish, then I put a transparent UIScrollView on top of it. Inside that scroll view I put the two views I want to scroll horizontally through.
Don't forget to enable UIScrollView paging. In my case, I had two table views. Starting from the first one, if you swiped from right to left it would scroll to the next table view, and if you swiped left to right it would scroll back to the first.
I have view1 which is an UIImageView and I also have view2 which is a subview of view1 and is a UIImageView too.
I want to move view2 around and I would like it to have alpha=0 where view1 (his superview) has alpha!=1, is that possible? how can I do that?

Use UItouch delegates to do it.. touchesBegan, touchesMoved,touchesEnded,touchesCancelled etc..
You can do it 2 diffrents ways.
1.Create a child class which is inherited from UiView named as view2 and implement the above touch delegate and create its obj and add as the subview of your view1.Then you can get the touch delegate working when touch occurred in view2.
in touchesBegan,touchesMoved delegates, do the coding for drag opertaions.
2.in main view touchesBegan,touchesMoved delegates, check the if touch point intersect the view2 frame.

For setAlpha, you can use UIView method yourUiView.setAlpha = 1.0 or yourUiView.setAlpha = 0.0 as per your conditions
I have implemented a PDF viewer. Currently it is a UIViewController that contains a UIPageViewController.
My toolbar, some overlay elements (like quick access to certain pages of the PDF) are added to the standard UIViewController's view.
However I wonder if that is required? Would it be somehow possible to inherit from UIPageViewController and have the paging effect for sub controllers and still have "floating" elements on top that won't be paged?
or is the containment the way to go?
We should create UIPageViewController programmatically and add its view to another UIViewController's view as a subview. And the elements that we want them to be 'overlay' should be subviews of the host UIViewController.
For example, in - viewDidLoad:
