xcode 4.2 incompatible with ios6 - ios

I have vmware running OS X 10.6, therefore had do download xcode 4.2 because 4.5 was incompatible with OS X 10.6. And now it seems I cant create an .ipa file from the app I built bc my iphone has iOS 6.
Is there a work around for all of this so i can create an the .ipa file using my ios6 device?

I don't think xCode 4.2 is able to build iOS6 IPAs.
Since iOS 6 introduces some new features like auto-layout, which is only available in xCode 4.5
So I recommend you upgrade your OS to use xCode 4.5 instead, which is also recommended by Apple that the developer should use the lastest OS X.

How to create an Objective-C project in an old version

I have to create an application with a minimum version in iOS 6.0 and Objective-C.
How can I create a new project in that version?
I've tried creating a normal project and switching to iOS 6 later, but it gives me a lot of errors.
Can an application in iOS 6 be seen correctly on a terminal with notch?
It is not possible to create an application with a minimum version in iOS 6.0.
AppStore won't accept your application. Most of old frameworks are deprecated and no longer supported by new iOS versions.
Your best option is to get versions of MACOS and XCode that supported IOS6.0
That would be OS X Yosemite and XCode 6 or 7.
You can install the old MACOS on a virtual machine or better download a Virtual Machine of older MACOS.
Be aware: Old versions of MACOS,XCode may not be secure and you will have to download from websites other than apple.

Xcode 6 playground — I can't create a OS X playground file

I've updated to Xcode 6, the latest one appeared on the AppStore. I am running OS X Yosemite Beta 3 and apparently, I can open up only the iOS playground and the OS X one is missing from the list.
I attached a screenshot. Hm, any ideas?
You can download Xcode 6.1 which has the swift for Mac OS X.
Also check this link: https://developer.apple.com/swift/blog/
Swift for OS X
Today is the GM date for Swift on iOS. We have one more GM date to go for Mac. Swift for OS X currently requires the SDK for OS X Yosemite, and when Yosemite ships later this fall, Swift will also be GM on the Mac. In the meantime, you can keep developing your Mac apps with Swift by downloading the beta of Xcode 6.1.
As you can see, if you start an empty project and chose OS X, you don't have swift as language. So only ObjectiveC as language for Cocoa-based apps. Maybe in Yosemite final this feature will be implemented. I think we should wait GM date for Swift & Yosemite to go for Mac.

In OS X 10.10 (Yosemite Beta), How do I Test Using iOS 6.1 Simulator?

I am trying to target iOS 6.1 using Xcode 5 in Yosemite Beta. However, the simulator won't even run the app, or show the default icons (all I get is a black iOS-shaped screen, and Home or Lock buttons are not working). The 7.1 simulator works fine.
I have also noticed that Xcode 6 Beta does not even offer simulator versions prior to 7.1.
Does this indicate that, even in the final of OS X 10.10, it will be impossible to simulate iOS versions prior to 7.x? This seems very unreasonable to me.
Is this expected behavior?
EDIT: So I had already tried re-installing and re-downloading the 6.1 simulator before posting this question, which did nothing to change the situation. I also checked other similar questions that dealt with the upgrade to Mavericks (OS X 10.9) but the versions supported seem oddly chosen.
I will submit the question to Apple and report back my findings, unless someone else replies who has more concrete information on this specific case.
As far as I have experienced, The iPhone simulator always have this kind of issue on every update of OS X, since the core of iPhone simulator is using the core of OS X, and it only support the latest two version. That is,
10.10 -> iOS 7, iOS 8.
10.9 -> iOS 6, iOS 7.
Meanwhile, Xcode obviously only support for downloading the latest two version simulator, which means you can get iOS 6 simulator in Xcode 5, but not in Xcode 6.
However you can get the old simulator by copy/paste the old SDKs into the correct folder, but this still follows the OSX-iOS relation. That is, if you have the iOS 6 simulator SDK, you can run the iOS 6 simulator on OSX 10.9, but not OSX 10.10.
iOS Simualtor runtimes older than iOS 7.0 will not work with Xcode 6.
iOS Simulator runtimes older than iOS 7.1 will not work on OS X Yosemite.
Older versions of the iOS Simulator runtime cannot be made to work with Xcode 6 nor on OS X Yosemite without significant changes to those legacy runtimes.
You can still build your apps to support older iOS versions by setting an older deployment target, but you will not be able to test them on a simulated device running on OS X Yosemite. You can test on a physical device running iOS 6.1, or you can run Xcode 5.1.1 in OS X Mavericks to test your project in the older simulator.

can I upgrade/make app for ios7 using xcode 4.2?

I have an existing app that need to be made compatible to ios7. I am new to ios app development. I have following things:
1. Macbook with MAC OS 10.6.8
2. X code - 4.2
is it possible to recompile the existing app using above to make it compatible for ios7?
(I know i need atleast MAC OS 10.8 for xcode5)
A little detailed explanation is highly appreciable as I am still figuring out how it works.
If not what all I would need to achieve same? If yes, how?
Its must to have xcode 5 or 5.1 to make app ios7 compatible.
Nope. iOS7 requires Xcode 5+ which requires mavericks. You can upgrade for free to mavericks and get Xcode.
Just open the App Store and upgrade to mavericks (5.3 GB) and then get Xcode 5.1
iOS7 developemnt only available with xcode5 and xcode5 is support minimum os version is MAC OS10.8 so first off all you have to upgrade os then xcode also then you can do your task.
From 1st Feb every app must be build in Xcode 5 and above as per apple declaration
I don't know about your existing app, but iOS 7 can run iOS 6 app, it shouldn't be an issue to just let your old app runs.
Of course, you will have to have xCode 5 in order to run and debug on iOS 7 device and simulator.

Can I write an iOS app with OSX 10.5?

I'm trying to write an app for my own use on my iPhone (iOS 6.0). Unfortunately I'm also traveling with my OSX 10.5 laptop with Xcode 3.1.4 loaded. Is there any way to run an app built with this xcode on my iPhone? I don't need any feature from a recent iOS and there are plenty of old apps that run just fine and were probably developed with old Xcode versions, but I always get an amber button indicating the iPhone iOS isn't supported when I hit build and run.
The oldest version of xcode that can develop for iOS 6 is xcode 4.5, and for running xcode 4.5 you need to have MAC OS 10.7.4 or later version
Sorry man, You can't.
You need Xcode4 and Lion for iOS6 development.
EDIT:
Now(2014 AD) Apple doesn't allow any app developed using below Xcode 5, so you need to have Xcode 5.
No. To develop for a modern iPhone, you need an Intel mac, and I doubt that a laptop with 10.5 is an Intel Mac (or that 10.5 even supports x86). Also, Xcode versions are correlated to API versions, if you haven't noticed, so even if possible, you'd probably only be able to use the 3.0 APIs, which are now not even usable because of the multitasking introduced in 4.0.
Short answer: No.
