Looking for some advise
I have been developing a ipad app that i am looking to release shortly but i am asking for advise on cost.
Basically my ipad app uses googles image api and it also uses you tubes and twitters api, so its kind of a mashup of various technologies.
Can i charge for my app i was only thinking 69pence but i am not sure if this is allowed and have no experience in releasing apps, i would like to try and make some profit if possible and have looked at the various advertising options iads etc.
What are apple policies on charging for a ipad app using various apis??? can someone update me or even just point me in the right direction for a forum to ask on i have tried here https://devforums.apple.com/index.jspa but its mainly developer based and not general discussion.
Thanks
There is nothing in Apple iOS Developer Agreement to prevent you from charging for such an app.
You should ensure that you are entitled to use the API you mention for a commercial purpose (which I understand should be normally the case, but you will know better).
You should also ensure that the way you use the content you get through that API is legally sound. The problem here arises from the fact that content from YouTube and google images is protected by copyright in its own. Maybe it is the case you can claim for fair-use, maybe it is not... it depends on what you do with the content.
As to the consequences of a breach of the API or copyright, I think that if your app becomes hugely successful, then chances are you could get a request for money; if your app will just sell as most apps do, then no one will notice. Just my guess, no guarantees implied!! :-)

I am using Parse service for my authentication in my iOS application.
I am beginner and I do not have enough information for setting my own authentication server. So far I have made some progress with Parse in my application. So my question is the following.
Should I train myself for learning setting my own server for authentication and implement that in my application or should I just keep going to use Parse? Please note that Parse is letting 1.000.000 api request for month in free edition (I think this is a sufficient number for a application with average user account but I would be happy to see your oppinions).
While it is personal question i would please to see different aspects. So be free to share your ideas.
This is a very personal answer based on my experience and preferences.
Parse is a very good service and idea that allows you to think only to the application and leave out complicated stuff like networking. At the same time it forces you to stay tied with it. So, for example, what could it happen if tomorrow services are limited (not more 1.000.000 API requests) or stopped (I hope not)?
Yes, networking is complicated but also challenging. So, IMHO, if you want to be a good developer, go and create your own service.
To start you can set up a REST architecture where JSON is used for messaging. This is quite simple to achieve in many programming languages (PHP, JAVA, Rails, etc.). Out of there, you can find very good external libraries (like AFNetworking) that can be used to configure the communication in your application.
You can find a complete example where authentication has been set up at Authentication with AFNetworking.
P.S. You can see the video only if you are a subscriber but code is free of charge on Github. Follow the links.
Hope it helps.

May be this question is out of development environment. What is the best mobile analytics service for iOS apps, which update downloads count live ? Currently i am using flurry and its gives the download count like every 6 hours. Are there any quicker services ?
The term Best calls for some more explanations, as it depends on one's requirement. What are the features you need? should it be a free service? etc.
Here are some options. I am only answering this part - Are there any quicker services ?
Bango has mobile app analytics and it is real time (well
according to their website).
Countly is another option, and it is open source and real time.
mtiks is real time.
Appsflyer is another, but I don't think it has a free plan
appinsights is realtime and offer a free trial period.
Capptain is also real time
appFigures.

I have a question, I was wondering if it is professional to use jQuery mobile for a iPhone app? I mean, i just needed to create photo galleries and i used jQuery mobile, and then created a webview for it.
Is it OK to create an iPhone app this way? Or is it not professional? Thanks!
Everyone will have an opinion about whether it is professional or not... it all depends on how you deliver your final product.
If your app looks polished, performs well and adheres to the HIG guidelines, then yes, it could be acceptable.
If you however throw something together which looks bad, performs poorly and doesn't function, then don't bother. You'd likely not make it past the approval process.
Take a look at: http://www.jqmgallery.com/. Lots of people have used jQuery Mobile to produce really slick looking apps.
Ask the basic questions -
Can I maintain it easily
Can someone else maintain it easily
Does it work with my SCM
Does it meet the requirements - fast enough, no crashing, etc.
It's professional, as long as you use best practices, and write decent scripts.

I have added iAd to my app but I have read that is not the best advertising platform on iOS. Must I change it to another option like AdWhirl or the Google Ads SDK for iOS. Whats the most lucrative option? (My app is a tourist guide)
Thanks for reading.
I think AdWhirl is a good idea and is what I use in my ad supported apps. It allows you to use most of the main advertising companies and means you can switch between the different ones without creating new builds of your app.
Personally I place iAd as the first priory as the rates are the best but the fill rates are often pretty low (and non-existent in many countries). AdMob is second and I used "house ads" third.
The answer for you probably depends on where your users are and exactly what your app does. But that's exactly why AdWhirl is a good idea, you can change the ratios as often as you want.
(One thing to consider if you're expecting tourists to use it: will they have data switched on? You're not going to get many click's if your users are not online!)

I would like to integrate music lyrics in my iOS app. Do you have a preference choice for an APi?
I am investigating : http://www.lyrdb.com
I have found this service: http://musixmatch.com
I don't have any specific recommendations because it depends on your willingness to tempt legality. The music industry is an unyielding beast. It is very difficult to legally provide lyrics. The way to go about legal lyrics also depends on your country and the countries you make the app available in. If this app is for your own use, you'll likely remain under the radar. If you make the app available on the App Store for free - eeehh perhaps you'll be unnoticed. If you charge, I say it's only a matter of time before you get a lawyer phone call.
As for an API providing legal lyrics, I don't think you'll find one for free.
Regarding #VokilaM's answer: MusixMatch is an Italian company so I doubt they have agreements with the MPA for US lyrics. (And if they did, they'd be advertising it.) Furthermore it looks like currently they only offer limited and non-commercial use lyrics as part of a "testing plan" option.
Further reading on wikipedia.
Musixmatch is a good API. It is licensed but if you want something that is free, you might want to try the following:
1. ChatLyrics
2. Lyricsfly
3. LyricWiki
I only tested Chatlyrics and it's working. It's API is very simple and easy to use.
By the way, your question, I think, is related with this post: Iphone - Writing a media player with lyrics
For a private app lyrdb.com is fine. The web site practices mass deletion of lyrics if a rightsholder contacts them, so it tends to stay up but it varies what lyrics are available. For a commercial app I wouldn't use it. It's not very fast and legally dubious. I've seen similar services being shutdown without notice (lyricsfly.com).
There are a few commercial options out there worth exploring if you are serious about things and have got money to spend:
- Gracenote
- LyricFind
This is more of a web service question rather than ios/iphone sdk, though. Maybe retag your question for a better response.
