SDL Tridion 2011 SP1 : Installing monitoring service - windows-services

We are setting up Tridion 2011 SP1 CDS (.net based) on one of our servers.
We are sruck at point 'Installing Monitoring as a Wndows Service'.
Evern after running the batch file 'StartCDInstaller.bat' and following the procedure, we cannot locate the Tridion Monitoring Agent service in the windows services.
Are we missing something?
Also another question regarding CDS, can we change the location of config files (Deployer, Storage_conf etc) post Installation? Or do we need to re-run the installer?
Update:
The same error even after reinstalling the monitoring service.
"The Event log details: The description for Event ID 100 from source TCDmonitor cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted"

You can change the location of tridion folder structure by setting the System variable in environment variable(Control panel -> system and security -> System -> Advance -> Environment variables -> system variables) called "Tridion_Home" and value as "d:\tridion" (this is the path of the tridion folder ). You can test this after going to run and type %tridion_home% .

If for some reason the Tridion Monitoring Service was not installed by the installer, you can do it manually.
Locate the file cd_monitor.exe (it is on the installation CD in Content Delivery\roles\monitoring\windows).
Copy it to a location where you keep your executables (e.g. to the Tridion\bin folder)
Start a command prompt as administrator and type 'cd_monitor -install'
Go to the services console and start the monitoring service

Had a similar issue too, it was an x64 Content Delivery server with x64 Java installed. Manually installed the monitoring service but refused to start with:
The description for Event ID 100 from source TCDmonitor cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
Could not load Java runtime libraries at
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
The monitoring service requires 32bit Java, as soon as that is installed it started with no problem.
Hope that helps.

The Bootstrap service is not found - after computer name change

Error: Failed to deploy COMPUTER_NAME :The Bootstrap service is not found on remote machine
Hello Stack overflow users. Google yields no results...
I configured a Wonderware Intouch for System Platform Runtime Client remote computer according to best practices found in the README files and other documentation.
On the GR in the ArchestrA IDE I created a platform then a view-engine and then an instance of the Intouch app underneath that.
I successfully deployed the application to the remote computer and everything was working as expected.
Afterwards I had to change the remote computer name as per our policy because the computer would be used at another site.
First I undeployed everything including the platform from the remote runtime computer. Then I changed the remote runtime computer name. Then I renamed all the objects in the IDE on the GR accordingly and changed the computer host name in the platform object instance accordingly.
I then tried to deploy the platform again, no success, I only receive an error message:
"Error: Failed to deploy COMPUTER_NAME :The Bootstrap service is not found on remote machine"
I have tried:
- Restarting the computer.
- Changing the IP Address.
- Google and AVEVA Knowledge base.
- Platform removal tool (which cannot be accessed since the platform does not display in the SMC manager)
The version of System Platform is 2014 R2 SP1.
When I look in the SMC log file, the Bootstrap service is starting on the remote runtime client.
I am not to keen to format the computer and start over so I would like to know if there may be some files that I need to delete or something else I could do to fix this problem.
EDIT:
I have also as mentioned in the comments and additionally tried:
- Uninstall Wonderware completely followed by a new fresh Install.
I had this problem recently. The problem seems to be that when creating a platform in the IDE it associates an ID for it and if you change the name of the machine and change the name of the platform it can try to search for the old platform through the id. To solve this, create a new platform and try to deploy it, System Platform can associate an old ID with the new platform, then create platforms until you have a unique id not yet used and deploy it. The platform id can be verified in the SMC. When deploying, leave the SMC open next to the IDE and note the ID of the platform being deployed.

0x80004005 Access is Denied on new install of TFS2018 Express. Can't execute roslyn\csc.exe

I've installed TFS2018 Express. It appears to have completely installed.
When I attempt to access its website component, I get the Win32 0x80004005 Access is Denied error. The stack trace references a csc.exe program in a roslyn sub-sub directory. The failing command mentions a file in another directory.
I've seen other threads that say not to run TFS in 32-bit mode. The installer didn't ask me and I don't know how to tell it to act in 64-bit mode.
Other threads say I need to add read and execute permissions to the directory. Which directory/directories? I've added it to the whole website directory and its children plus the referenced file directory.
It seems pretty darn silly for the product to install itself with inadequate permissions and not tell us which permissions are needed.
The error message tells me what command was failing.
[Win32Exception (0x80004005): Access is denied]
[ExternalException (0x80004005): Cannot execute a program. The command being executed was:
"d:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2018\Application Tier\Web Services\bin\roslyn\csc.exe" /shared /keepalive:"10" /noconfig /fullpaths #"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\tfs\af7cc5\244hjudj.cmdline"
Just for testing, after fighting it for some time, I gave full control over the roslyn directory and to the TFS (and child) directories to domain users where the cmdline file was mentioned. No change in the error message.
I put the above command into the command line and ran it. I get this error message:
error CS2011: Error opening response file 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\tfs\af7cc5\244hjudj.cmdline'
warning CS2008: No source files specified
error CS1562: Outputs without source must have the /out option specified.
Any ideas?
See https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/165639/0x80004005-access-is-denied-on-new-install-of-tfs2.html# for an answer that worked for me.
Key elements are that the program was installed via the iso installer and it apparently caused the website to run in 32bit mode, when 64bit mode is needed.
This caused the website to recompile to 64bit mode:
Files under C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary
ASP.NET Files are created by ASP.NET compiler. It is very strange that
error message mentions
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 instead of
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319
since TFS must be running in 64-bit Application Pool. Could you make
sure that "Microsoft Team Foundation Server Application Pool" and
"Microsoft Team Foundation Server Message Queue Application Pool"
application pools are configured to run in 64 bit processes?
To do this you can do the following:
1) Open IIS Manager (inetmgr.exe)
2) Select Application Pools page
3) Select "Microsoft Team Foundation Server Application Pool" click on
"Advanced Settings..." link on the right pane.
4) Make sure that Enable 32-bit Applications is set to False.
5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the "Microsoft Team Foundation Server
Message Queue Application Pool"
Once you verified that application pools are configured to run in 64
bit processes, open Sites page in the IIS manager and find out ID of
the Team Foundation Server site (second column). Usually it is 1 or 2.
After that, execute the following from the elevated command prompt:
c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_compiler.exe
-errorstack -m /LM/W3SVC/1/root/tfs
Replace bold 1 with ID of your Team Foundation Server site.
Does it report any errors?
In my case, the 32bit settings on the application pools were correct, and the aspnet_compiler.exe command caused the website to switch to 64bit mode. After that, all was well.

Neo4j Windows Desktop v.1.0.6 install won't create new database, error: invalid central directory file header signature

I have downloaded and attempted to install the 1.0.6 version of the Neo4j Desktop (Graph Platform) under Windows 10. The silent installation happens quickly without any prompting about where to install or what to expect installation-wise. Upon installation the Neo4j Desktop icon is added to the Windows desktop and the Desktop automatically opens with the appearance that it is all ready to go.
I select the default MyProject and click the New Database panel. The Local/Remote dialog pops up, I select Local. I accept the default Database name, don't add an optional description and click the Create button at which time I a red error dialog pops up saying:
`Database failed to create: Error: invalid central directory file header signature: 0xef42a50`
I get this result whether I create a new project and then attempt to create a new database in that new project. I get the same result if I change default names of proposed new databases. I can't attach to a remote new database because Neo4j does not appear to be running at this point and I have been given no indication where the installation even put anything.
When I ferret out the installation, I find it has silently been put in the typically hidden user subdirectories of "../AppData/Local/Programs/neo4j-desktop" and "..AppData/Roaming/Neo4j Desktop".
In the Roaming neo4j subdirectory, I find the log.log file which contains the single line of warning [2017-11-28 16:42:30:0451] [warn] auth is not initialised yet.
Any insights/recommendations appreciated. I am a "retired" #CitizenScientist and around most of the time to answer additional questions or to try any recommended fixes.
BTW, I have been using Neo4j Community Edition on my Windows dev box for years, mostly the manually installed version that provides support for running as a Windows service.
Also, my issue seems similar to this installation failure cited here: neo4j windows desktop: Unrecoverable authentication error.

How to resolve the deployment issue in Visual studio?

I have created an Add-in for MS Word using Visual studio. When i deploy and install that in other machine i get the following error message.*
Customized functionality in this application will not work because the certificate used to sign the deployment manifest for Sample or its location is not trusted. Contact your administrator for further assistance.
But i can able to install this add-in in few machines. Any idea why does this happen?*
I have found solution for this problem.
This problem occurs due to security level of the system. When we download the zip file from the internet, its contents are blocked in our system for security reasons. So the setup was not installed in other systems. We need to unblock the zip file (right click on zip file and press the unblock button). Now extract the contents of the zip file and try installing the setup file.

Windows Service Install Ends in Rollback

When I try to install a Windows service:
c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\installutil
I get, what looks to be, some success messages and some failure messages. Part way down:
An exception occurred during the Install phase.
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service has been marked for deletion
At the end:
The Rollback phase completed successfully.
The transacted install has completed.
The installation failed, and the rollback has been performed.
The service is given an entry in the Services applet, but it is marked as "Disabled". When I attempt to change it to another state, I get a "marked for deletion" error message.
There are no messages in the Event Log. There is nothing useful in the log file created by installutil.exe (I believe it's written to the current working directory).
I have no direction to go with this. What do I do?
It turns out that the install might, or probably will, fail if that service is highlighted in the Services applet. It's safest to just close the Services applet, install the service, and then re-open the Services applet. It's really stupid.
Also, make sure to run the console as admin.
I experienced the same and the issue for me was that a service with the same name was already installed. So in order to install the new service I had to uninstall the older services. I am learning how to create and setup windows services and thus the naming conflicting. Tried uninstalling the service first through:
c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\installutil -u servicename.exe
Once this statement executes successfully, install your service and it should succeed without any rollbacks.
Right Click on Command Prompt and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
Then copy and paste in: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe C:\TestService\bin\Debug\TestService.exe
Result in TestService.InstallLog is:
Installing service TestService...
Service TestService has been successfully installed.
Some times this happens due to permission issues.
Run the "Developer Command Prompt for VS 2012" as Administrator.
Then it will work.
Adding few more check's and points to solve this above issue.
Build service in release mode and take release folder files and kept in different path
Copy that path and go to visual studio command prompt window and run this bellow sample command to install the service.
Please close services.msc window if its opened , then run C:Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0>InstallUtil.exe C:\RunLocationServices\TestService.exe
Go services.msc and select that service and click on start ,if it changed to "started" then your service running fine.
Still if issue exists then
Another Checkpoint & SOLUTION
When a service starts, the service communicates to the Service Control Manager how long the service must have to start (the time-out period for the service).
If the Service Control Manager does not receive a "service started" notice from the service within this time-out period,
the Service Control Manager terminates the process that hosts the service.
This time-out period is typically less than 30 seconds.
If you do not adjust this time-out period, the Service Control Manager ends the process.
To adjust this time-out period, follow these steps:
1.Go to Start > Run > and type regedit
2.Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
With the control folder selected, right click in the pane on the right and select new DWORD Value
3.Name the new DWORD: ServicesPipeTimeout
4.Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify
Click Decimal, type '180000', and then click OK
5.Restart the computer
Still if issue exists then problem in your service code ,infinate loop may occur due to your methods/classes of service calling. Do code review of each line.
This problem is due to security, you'd better open developer command prompt for VS 2012:
RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
and install your service. It will surely fix your problem.
I tried and the issue was resolved.
