I need some confirmation regarding Mountain Lion.
I am using Snow leopard and considering to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Now while downloading if the internet connection somehow gets disrupted , does it again start from beginning or it pause so i can resume?
During downloading, will i be able to use my macbook?
I am using Xcode 4.2 with ios base sdk 5.0. Now which Xcode version should i download after installing mountain lion?
I have an ipad sdk 5.1.1. Can i use it for device test with new xcode version (right now with my ipad i can not device test)? I searched over ner for solutions but none of them are working for me.
If anyone know about these please inform me. Thanks for your help
Samin
It does pause, however, it continues as soon as a stable connection is confirmed (automatically if I remember my experience correctly).
Yes, your MacBook is completely useable during the download period.
You should be running Xcode 4.4 (which can be downloaded without a paid developer account here) after your install completes. If you have a paid account, it is best to download Xcode 4.5 Beta 4 along with the iOS 6 SDK.
Yes. Xcode versions 4.3+ support iOS 5.1+.
The download will probably pause, you can use the mac during downloading, not installing, for ios 5.1.1 i'd download the ios 6 developer preview Xcode to ensure compatibility

I've just enrolled in the iOS dev program. I've an iPad2 running iOs 5.1.1 and am developing in XCode3.2.6.
I've gone through the steps to get a provisioning profile and use my iPad for development but it's not working... in XCode I see an iOS code signing Identity listed now but on trying to run on the device I get:
No provisioned iOS device is connected. Please check the Organizer to
view the status of any connected devices.
My device shows yellow in the Organize screen with message:
The version of iOS on XXXXX does not match any of the versions of
iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK.
Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or
update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is available here.

I assume it's some incompatibility between iOS version and SDK but what am I supposed to do? The organizer screen seems to let me change iOS but asks me where to find the file image, which I don't have. And I don't know how or where to install a different SDK.
Sorry if I explained this badly, I'm pretty lost here. Although I have my app working in the simulator I really don't follow all this provisioning/profile stuff even after reading through the starter guide.
Your Xcode is too old. You must upgrade to at least XCode 4.3. But to upgrade to XCode 4.3, your mac need to be running Lion. It's a hassle, but after that, you will be able to build for your iPad that is currently on iOS 5. Otherwise, you need a device that is on previous version of iOS, but that's not sustainable because apple has a way of "automatically updating" your software...(or because of some careless settings, of course)
1 Open Xcode 5 (You should have Xcode 5)
2 Choose your iPhone5 (iOS7 or +) on Device Selection in Xcode 5 for your app.
3 Close Xcode 5, and Open Xcode 4
4 Your iPhone5 with iOS7 can now be used as test device.
Hope this helps.
After today's announcement that iOS 6 Beta is available to developers today, I am wondering if I jump on the iOS 6 ASAP will I still be able to build my apps in progress on my device(iPhone) from Xcode 4.3.2? or will there be a required update for Xcode as well?
Update: Currently I have iOS 6 on my iPhone and Xcode 4.5 installed. After that the organizer in Xcode (4.3.2 and 4.5) said 'could not support development' in the Provisioning. Then fixed that, and now I have 4.3.2 saying that it is running my app on my iPhone, but its not showing up on my phone. And 4.5 gets to the 'TakingInstallLock' point in the process, and just keeps trying, but getting nowhere. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know of a solution?
You can push apps to your phone from Xcode 4.3.x if your phone is running the iOS 6 Beta.
You cannot, however, utilize any of the iOS 6+ frameworks such as the new Social framework from within Xcode 4.3.x
I can't comment yet so this is to confirm that installing Xcode 4.5 DP acutally installs the iOS 6 SDK for Xcode 4.3.2 as well. This is rather obvious as SDK files are installed in a general place (namely the Library folder) of OSX.
The steps to use your updated iOS 6 device for development with Xcode 4.3.2 thus are:
Download Xcode 4.5 DP from the dev area of apple.com.
Install Xcode 4.5
Start up Xcode 4.3.2
Open up the devices section, choose your device for development, wait for the process of fetching information to finish and you are good to go.
Regards!
Any apps that you write using beta software will be rejected. To translate, if you use iOS 6 SDK beta or the new Xcode beta that gets released today, your app will be rejected even if you make a build for just iOS 5.
I installed iOS6 and Xcode 4.3.2 didn't recognize my device. After installing Xcode 4.5 beta and letting it install a few things, 4.3.2 now recognizes my device and I can carry on building and testing on my iOS6 device.
I would say no!
I updated last night and now I can't run my app on my phone.
I only have the Macbook, which I CANNOT upgrade to Lion. I'd like to get started developing IOS applications. I've got an iPod Touch 5.0.1, so I'm good there. My main question is this-
When I finish making my applications and I deploy them to Apple, will they work just fine on other devices, like iPhone 4S 5.1.1?
Also, if I pay the $100 to Apple to develop, will they support my Xcode 4.2 for the whole year?
Will I be able to deploy my applications using this scenario without fear of Apple cutting me off?
Thanks in advance.
Xcode 4.2 is the last officially supported Xcode version that runs on Snow Leopard, but if you do developing on it, anything that works for older iOS's will run on your iDevices running newer OS's. You might be able to get newer SDK's to run with Xcode 4.2 but myself, I wouldn't risk it.
I think the big issue you're going to run into is that if you install a new OS onto your iDevice for testing, you may end up not being able to use your device for testing (in the Xcode organizer). So you probably want to keep at least one device back on the last supported iOS version for Xcode 4.2.
And this should take care of you for the whole year.
And hopefully you'll make enough money from whatever app you're building to afford a Macintosh where you can run Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) and Xcode 4.4 or 5 or whatever will be out a year from now.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
It really doesn't matter which Xcode do you have. You can even have Xcode 3 ;)
Seems like every time i go thru a required update of either the mac OS or the device iOS, i always end up getting very frustrated to the point of giving up on the iphone/ipad development altogether.
I just recently bought an ipad2 (iOS 5.1.1). And i noticed that my old Xcode 4 didnt support this iOS version. So now I just upgraded to XCode 4.2. But now I am still required to downgrade the iPad2 iOS to 5.0 (unfortunately). Now if I wanted to develop for iOS 5.1, then I must upgrade to XCode 4.3.2, which means I also need to upgrade my OS to Lion (i currently have Snow Leopard).
I believe these are the prerequisites that i was able to straighten out. Please correct me if Im wrong.
Finally, if my assessment here is correct, then I do need to download the iOS 5.0 firmware. I am unable to find a link to this anywhere on apple's site (everything is for 5.1). Anybody know where i can get the download link for older iOS's ?
Thanks!
When you go to your Xcode organizer, could you connect your iPad and select "Use For development" button that appears with your device in the organizer?
If the answer is "yes", then you can develop for iOS 4 and just do your testing on your iPad running OS 5.1.1.
If the answer is "no", then you should update your Macintosh to Lion and your Xcode to 4.3.X (which will include the iOS 5.0 & 5.1 SDK).
If you want to "downgrade" your iPad to iOS 5.0 (and good luck with that), you can find a download link in this article.
But don't stress too much. Once you get accustomed to development, you can hopefully keep up with the times (and the frequent OS & Xcode updates) pretty easily.
I am new to Apple Development Platform. I have installed Xcode 3.2 with MAC OS SDK on my Apple Computer running Snow Leopard. I need to know whether can I download and install just iOS SDK 4.3 or I have to download full Xcode 3.2 including MAC OS SDK and iOS SDK?
Download the xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg from Apple's iOS Developer's site.
Run the installer.
When presented with options to install, select JUST the SDK. Uncheck everything else.
For Delphi Firemonkey users:
After install is complete, you will be able to run the FireMonkey installer again (assuming you have already installed FPC).
When you run XCode, it will ask you to download the frameworks again. Do so.
XCode will now be able to compile and run your Delphi FireMonkey iOS projects.
I believe the latest edition of Xcode that will run on snow leopard is 4.2, which will still be available for download in your developer portal. You are far better off with Xcode 4 then you are with 3.anything, they have made significant improvements to the entire IDE. Now getting back on topic, no Apple will not let you download new iOS SDKs for 3.2 without downloading the version of Xcode that is bundled with them.
Why you want to download just SDK.
Go for new version Xcode (4.3.2). It will take care of all your needs.
