Working on a prototype Windows 8 Metro App and wanted to use the Geolocator. I know how to simulate the location using the simulator. But I was just curious if there was a way to set the location information for my actual desktop (not lucky enough to have been to BUILD last year and get a tablet...)

As the question tells, I hope to know if it's enable to get my current position at the desktop rather than mobile devices such as phone.
In Windows 10 it's possible, and maybe for Windows 8.1 and MacOS do
Sometimes I need to demo some apps that are location based. I like using my laptop and want to use if for the demo. I know I can change the location of simulator to not point to California, but is there a way to have cllocationmanager pickup actual location of the laptop?
It's not a matter of having GPS.
You need to look at the iOS Simulator as a virtual machine within osx. Like every virtual machine it has limited capabilities.
So in the current version it's simply not possible - sorry.
To change locations for the debugger, take a look at location debugger:

(Note that I haven't tested this app)
Dont think mac has GPS , like iphone/ipad.
What you could do is harcode the location to ur desired location.
My application uses iPhone's GPS functionality, and it was working fine previously, as in it prompts user to allow the use of location services and it shows up under Settings > Location Services list. I uninstalled and re-downloaded the app from the app store, but it no longer does either of them. The app was of the same version, and hasn't been updated for a while, but the problem had started recently.
The problem has been found in multiple devices (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S) running different OS (iOS 4-5). Did Apple change how Location Services work recently?
This same happend to me and i don't know why. To restore applications to location service list you need to turn of main location service switch and then run all of your applications one by one. Every app which will need location service enabled will ask you to enable this service and add itself to the list.
I really need to get my app up as soon as possible, however there are some issues with the app working the way I want in os 5.0 but works great in os6+
I'm just wondering if I submit it would just be turned down. I want to get it up, and while that is happening I can be preparing an update. Same with resolution support, I may need to increase the amount of phones I reach, but right now there is no time. What I'm asking is will rim not accept an app because it's just not compatible with all phones?
Also, should I building separate cod files for different os compatibility?
If your app works well in os6.0 + and not so well in Os 5.0 ,submit the app and set the MinOS (minimum OS version compatible with the File Bundle) to OS6.0 . so the app wont be visible to os 5.0 users. It will only be visible to os 6.0 users. Once you upload, you can then work on it and then for the next release, update the file bundle with min os set to OS5.0
Its upto your discretion to set the number of devices/os/carrier/language, your app supports. Even if its just one device, RIM will accept the app. Make sure the app is signed, and it doesnt do anything crazy.
i am creating simple application for showing Blackberry map in Blackberry.
i was unable to open BB Map through my app.
so that i try to open inbuilt Map App that is showing following image
i check my MSD setting and my internet is working perfect and i can browse from BB Browser
i am using 9530-Verizon-4.7.0.75
what could be problem??? How can i start BB Map in my Simulator??
The problem has to do with rendering issue in simulator. I've been through this when developing a map based app. Map would not render and would show green field.
This is the official response I got from RIM when contacted with the issue:
Simulator - Blackberry Maps Green Background Issue
Resolution: Advised customer that BlackBerry Maps functionality has
been inconsistent on device simulators. The best method of conducting
this testing would be to test on a physical device.
After trying all possible solutions, I gave up. Note that the issue doesn't occur on all systems. If you have access to any other system, try on it. May be you get lucky.
On the simulator phone go into the wifi settings and select a network to connect to. After that you should be able to use the web browser and map applications without problem.
