How to make a table with 1 row by default - jsf-2

I have a table and I want that everytime I run the program it show 1 blank row by default. How can i do that?
<h:dataTable cellspacing="0" value="#{editQuestion.answersData}" var="answer">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">ID</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{answer.answer.id}" />
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header"><h:outputText value="#{i18n['admin.edit.rightanswer']}" /></f:facet>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox value="#{answer.answer.isRight}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header"><h:outputText value="#{i18n['admin.edit.answers']}" /></f:facet>
<h:inputTextarea id="answer" rows="3" cols="40" value="#{answer.text}" required="true" label ="Answer">
<f:validateLength maximum="500"/>
</h:inputTextarea>
<div>
<h:message for="answer" style ="color:red"/>
</div>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<h:commandButton image="/resources/imgs/#{editQuestion.buttonDelete}" immediate ="true" action="#{editQuestion.deleteAnswer(answer)}" disabled="#{!editQuestion.possibleToDelete}" alt="delete" title="#{i18n['img.delete']}">
<f:param name="id" value="#{editQuestion.id}"/>
</h:commandButton>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>`

Just add a new instance of Answer to the list behind #{editQuestion.answerData} during the (post)construction of the bean behind #{editQuestion}.
E.g. during the postconstruct:
private List<Answer> answerData;
#PostConstruct
public void init() {
answersData = new ArrayList<Answer>();
answersData.add(new Answer());
}
Note that the bean needs to be #ViewScoped in order to preserve the right data across submits on the same view.

ModalPanel using RichFaces

I'm trying to create a ModalPanel from a dataTable (RichFaces 4.5.1, MyFaces 2.2.6, Spring 3.1.1, Tomcat 7.0.27) but I can't.
The modalPanel has values to be displayed based on the selected row in the table. When I click in a commandLink, trigger a actionListener should feed these values (localidadeMB.carregarColecoes()), but it does't work, because the reference to attributes of bean is null (has not been set by the f:setPropertyActionListener located in commandLink).
What was missing?
*page.xhtml
(...)
<f:view>
<h:form id="formConsulta">
<rich:dataTable id="tabela"
value="#{localidadeMB.getLocalidadesPorPalavra()}" var="loc"
rowKeyVar="row" rows="20" width="800px" render="scroller">
<rich:column>
(...)
</rich:column>
<rich:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value=""/>
</f:facet>
<a4j:commandLink id="editlink" ajaxSingle="true"
oncomplete="#rich:component('modalEditarLocalidade')}.show()"
actionListener="#{localidadeMB.carregarColecoes}"
render="modalEditarLocalidade">
<h:graphicImage value="/img/edit.png"/>
<f:setPropertyActionListener value="#{loc}" target="#{localidadeMB.localidade}" />
</a4j:commandLink>
</rich:column>
</rich:dataTable>
</h:form>
<ui:include src="modalPanel.xhtml" />
*modalPanel.xhtml
<ui:composition>
<rich:popupPanel id="modalEditarLocalidade" autosized="true"
modal="false" resizable="false">
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Alterar localidade" />
</f:facet>
<f:facet name="controls">
<h:graphicImage id="modalClosePNG2" value="/img/close1.png"
style="cursor:default;"
onclick="Richfaces.hideModalPanel('modalEditarLocalidade')" />
</f:facet>
<h:form>
<h:outputLabel value="Nome da localidade:" for="nomeLocalidade" />
<h:inputText id="nomeLocalidade"
value="#{localidadeMB.localidade.nome}" required="true"
immediate="true"/>
</h:inputText>
</h:form>
</rich:popupPanel>
</ui:composition>
*ManagedBean
private Localidade localidade;
public void setLocalidade(Localidade l){
this.localidade = l;
}
public void carregarColecoes(ActionEvent action){
System.out.println(localidade.getNome());
***** print NULL *****
}
If you want to set up a variable first and then execute a method you have to use #action for that method, actionListeners are executed first but since both of your methods are actionListeners the localidadeMB.carregarColecoes is executed before the variable is set. (And btw. h:commandLink has no "ajaxSingle" or "oncomplete" attributes.)
With the suggestion of Makhiel and this link I decided.
The xhtml looked like this:
<a4j:commandLink id="editlink" ajaxSingle="true"
oncomplete="#{rich:component('modalEditarLocalidade')}.show()"
action="#{localidadeMB.carregarColecoes}"
render="modalEditarLocalidade">
<h:graphicImage value="/img/edit.png"/>
<f:setPropertyActionListener value="#{loc}"
target="#{localidadeMB.localidade}" />
</a4j:commandLink>
and ManagedBean like this:
public String carregarColecoes(){
(....)
}

Primefaces confirmDialog doesn't show up after one call

I have a problem with PrimeFaces <p:confirmDialog>, when I click on the <p:commandLink> that must show up the dialog and choose 'No', everything is fine. But when I click on yes,everything works just the first time.
When the process is over and I click again on any <p:commandLink>, the dialog doesn't show up unless I refresh the whole page.I had try everything but I cannot figure out what can be the problem.
<h:form>
<p:dataTable border="0" rules="all" value="#{userBean.users}" var="user" autoUpdate="true" styleClass="table table-hover" paginator="true" paginatorTemplate="{CurrentPageReport} {FirstPageLink} {PreviousPageLink {PageLinks} {NextPageLink} {LastPageLink} {RowsPerPageDropdown}" rowsPerPageTemplate="6,10,15" >
<p:column>
<f:facet name="header">

</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{user.login}" />
</p:column>
<p:column>
<f:facet name="header">

</f:facet>
<p:commandLink class="badge bg-red marge-left" onclick='PF("cdu#{user.id}").show()' title="Supprimer un utilisateur"><span class="fa fa-trash-o"/></p:commandLink>
<p:confirmDialog ajax="true" message="Voulez vous vraiment supprimer l'utilisateur '#{user.login}'" closable="true" header="Confirmation" severity="alert" widgetVar="cdu#{user.id}" >
<p:commandButton value="oui" actionListener="#{userBean.deleteUser}" update="#form" onclick='PF("cdu#{user.id}").hide()' styleClass="btn btn-primary"/>

</p:confirmDialog>
</p:column>
</p:dataTable>
</h:form>
I had finally resolved my problem. I changed the <p:confirmDialog> by a global one and it works.
<h:form>

<p:commandButton value="No" type="button" styleClass="ui-confirmdialog-no" icon="ui-icon-close"/>
</p:confirmDialog>
</h:form>
I tried your code and repaired it a little. Hope it will work for you too.
-I removed ajax="true"
-usersBean.deleteUser function need to know which user to so -> deleteusersBean.deleteUser(user)
Under is my code that i use to test your case. A few things are changed due to existing beans i have. This code is tested on latest primefaces(5.2).
my xhtml file:
<p:column>
<f:facet name="header">

</p:confirmDialog>
</p:column>
</p:dataTable>
</h:form>
my loginBean:

The backing bean:
#ManagedBean(name="waitinglistBean")
#ViewScoped
public class WaitinglistBean implements Serializable
{
private Patients patient;
private OrWaitinglist orWaitinglist;
private List<Patients> patients = new ArrayList<Patients>();
private String name;
private Integer pcode;
public WaitinglistBean() {
}
public void setSelectedPatient(Patients patient) {
this.patient = patient;
}
public Patients getSelectedPatient() {
return patient;
}
public OrWaitinglist getOrWaitinglist() {
return orWaitinglist;
}
public void setOrWaitinglist(OrWaitinglist orWaitinglist) {
this.orWaitinglist = orWaitinglist;
}
public String getName() {
return name;
}
public void setName(String name) {
this.name = name;
}
public Integer getPcode() {
return pcode;
}
public void setPcode(Integer pcode) {
this.pcode = pcode;
}
public List<Patients> getPatients() {
PatientsDao patientsDao = new PatientsDaoImpl();
patients = patientsDao.getSearchPatient(name, pcode);
System.out.println(name + " " + pcode);
return patients;
}
public void createOrWaitinglist()
{
orWaitinglist.setPatients(patient);
}
So first a user enter a string: "Firstname" and an Integer: "Patient Code".
When he hits the "Search" button it fires the actionListener="#{patientBean.patients}
inside that commandbutton. The method needs 2 parameter, name and pcode which have their own setters/getters.
When I look in console it shows me the printout of these 2 parameters, and they are twice "null", so that means the parameters from the JSF pages were not passed to the backing bean, although the value of the inputText has been set to the backingbean set method: value="#{patientBean.name}"
My question now is why do I get these null-values. I've read several posts which use these setters, but still I get null-values.
after edit i still have the same problem;
for send value of input component in h:panelgrid to the backingbean use somthing like this:
<p:commandButton value="Search" process="#(frmPatient:findPatientParameters :input)"
actionListener="#{patientBean.patients}" update="patients"/>

JSF 2 view scoped bean not updated when action is called second time

I have a view scoped arrayList as bean. This is used to display the editable columns of dataTable. When the page is displayed initially and I try to update the table contents the update works fine, however when I try to update any column the second time the values which are changed do not reflect in the arrayList bean (verified in the action method using break point). The action method is also a managed bean with view scope.
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>financialListBean</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>java.util.ArrayList</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>view</managed-bean-scope>

setErrorMsgBean("Updated successfully ...");

System.out.println("There is an exception at doFinancialUpdateBtnAction");

GET Parameter View Scoped Bean

I have a strange effect on my JSF2/richfaces 4 project. I use a viewscoped bean and a datascroller to view some data from my backing bean. The bean is viewscoped and to pass the figureId parameter I fire the preRenderView event.
<f:metadata>
<f:viewParam name="figureId" value="#{pointEdit.figureId}" >
<f:convertNumber pattern="###" />
</f:viewParam>
<f:event type="preRenderView" listener="#{pointEdit.init}" />
</f:metadata>
Displays fine, but when I click on the second site of the datascroller I get a nullponter exception for this line: <f:event type="preRenderView" listener="#{pointEdit.init}" />.

public class PointEdit implements Serializable {
public void init() {
FigureService figureService = Utils.getSpringBean(FigureService.class);
figure = figureService .getById(figureId); // figureId will NOT be passed from GET

Before I imported my new data it worked fine on my test figures.
Why is my figureId GET Parameter not found in the init function? With my testdata (5 figures) I never had a problem with this.

You need to either pass that parameter as <f:param> in the command link so that it retains in the subsequent request:
<h:commandLink>
<f:param name="figureId" value="#{pointEdit.figureId}" />
</h:commandLink>
or to check in the init() if FacesContext#isPostback() equals to false before proceeding (so that it only runs on a fresh new GET request, not in the subsequent postbacks as the bean is view scoped and the properties are already been set anyway):
public void init() {
if (!FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().isPostback()) {
// ...
}
}
My new test images where 5 times larger then the images i got 4 testing. In my ViewScoped bean i had the figure as property so the whole byte[] had to be serialized.
After removing this design flaw it works again and also explains why the new images cause troubles!
