Im looking for a function that will pull the youtube duration of a video from the url. I read some tutorials but don't get it. I embed videos on my site using a url and I have a function that pulls the thumbnail and I just want something similar that gets the duration. Here's how I get the thumb...
function get_youtube_screen_link( $url = '', $type = 'default', $echo = true ) {
if( empty( $url ) )
return false;
if( !isset( $type ) )
$type = '';
$url = esc_url( $url );
preg_match("|[\\?&]v=([^&#]*)|",$url,$vid_id);
if( !isset( $vid_id[1] ) )
return false;
$img_server_num = 'i'. rand(1,4);
switch( $type ) {
case 'large':
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/0.jpg";
break;
case 'first':
// Thumbnail of the first frame
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/1.jpg";
break;
case 'small':
// Thumbnail of a later frame(i'm not sure how they determine this)
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/2.jpg";
break;
case 'default':
case '':
default:
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/default.jpg";
break;
}
if( $echo )
echo $img_link;
else
return $img_link;
}
You could use something like this:
<?php
function getDuration($url){
parse_str(parse_url($url,PHP_URL_QUERY),$arr);
$video_id=$arr['v'];
$data=#file_get_contents('http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/'.$video_id.'?v=2&alt=jsonc');
if (false===$data) return false;
$obj=json_decode($data);
return $obj->data->duration;
}
echo getDuration('http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFQc7VRJowk');
?>
that returns the duration in seconds of the video.
Reference: http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/2.0/developers_guide_protocol.html
You can use a function like this one to change the seconds to hours, minutes, and seconds.

if (!count($result['items'])) {
return null;
}
$duration_encoded = $result['items'][0]['contentDetails']['duration'];

$seconds = $interval->days * 86400 + $interval->h * 3600 + $interval->i * 60 + $interval->s;

this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AQ9UamPN6E
You can simply use a time formater to change the seconds into whatever format you like.
i.e. return gmdate("H:i:s", $obj->data->duration);
function getYoutubeDuration($videoid) {
$xml = simplexml_load_file('https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/' . $videoid . '?v=2');
$result = $xml->xpath('//yt:duration[#seconds]');
$total_seconds = (int) $result[0]->attributes()->seconds;
return $total_seconds;
}
//now call this pretty function.
//As parameter I gave a video id to my function and bam!
echo getYoutubeDuration("y5nKxHn4yVA");
1) You will need an API key. Go to https://developers.google.com/ and log in or create an account, if necessary. After logging in go to this link https://console.developers.google.com/project and click on the blue CREATE PROJECT button. Wait a moment as Google prepares your project.
2) You will need a web host that is running PHP with file_get_content supported. You can check by creating a new script with just "echo php_info();" and verifying that allow_url_fopen is set to On. If it is not, then change the configuration or talk to your web host.
<?php
$sYouTubeApiKey = "<enter the key you get>";
//Replace This With The Video ID. You can get it from the URL.
//ie https://www.youtube.com/XWuUdJo9ubM would be
$sVideoId = "XWuUdJo9ubM";
//Get The Video Details From The API.
function getVideoDetails ($sVideoId) {
global $sYouTubeApiKey;
//Generate The API URL
$sUrl = "https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/videos?id=".$sVideoId."&key=".$sYouTubeApiKey."&part=contentDetails";
//Perform The Request
$sData = file_get_contents($sUrl);
//Decode The JSON Response
return json_decode($sData);
}
//Get The Video Duration In Seconds.
function getVideoDuration ($sVideoId) {
$oData = getVideoDetails($sVideoId);
//Deal With No Videos In List
if (count($oData->items) < 1) return false;
//Get The First Video
$oVideo = array_shift($oData->items);
//Extract The Duration
$sDuration = $oVideo->contentDetails->duration;
//Use Regular Expression To Parse The Length
$pFields = "'PT(?:([0-9]+)H)?(?:([0-9]+)M)?(?:([0-9]+)S)?'si";
if (preg_match($pFields, $sDuration, $aMatch)) {
//Add Up Hours, Minutes, and Seconds
return $aMatch[1]*3600 + $aMatch[2]*60 + $aMatch[3];
}
}
header("Content-Type: text/plain");
$oData = getVideoDetails($sVideoId);
print_r($oData);
echo "Length: ".getVideoDuration($sVideoId);
?>

We have built a web application. The application's core is to arrange the meetings/sessions on the web. So User A(Meeting co-ordinator) will arrange a meeting/session and all other participants B, C, D and etc will be joining in the meeting/session. So I have used Twilio group video call to achieve it.
I have the below use case.
We want to do the voice pitch shifting of the User A's(Meeting co-ordinator) voice. So all other participants will be receiving the pitch-shifted voice in group video. We have analyzed the AWS Polly in Twilio but it doesn’t match with our use case.
So please advice is there any services in Twilio to achieve this scenario.
(or)
will it be possible to interrupt Twilio group call and pass the pitch-shifted voice to other participants?
Sample Code Used
initAudio();
function initAudio() {

Twilio developer evangelist here.
There is nothing within Twilio itself that pitch shifts voices.
If you are building this in a browser, then you could use the Web Audio API to take the input from the user's microphone and pitch shift it, then provide the resultant audio stream to the Video API instead of the original mic stream.
the comments in the above answer are SO helpful! I've been researching this for a couple of weeks, posted to Twilio-video.js to no avail and finally just the right phrasing pulled this up on S.O!
but to summarize and to add what I've found to work since it's hard to follow all the 27 questions/comments/code excerpts:
when connecting to Twilio:
const room = await Video.connect(twilioToken, {
name: roomName,
tracks: localTracks,
audio: false, // if you don't want to hear the normal voice at all, you can hide this and add the shifted track upon participant connections
video: true,
logLevel: "debug",
}).then((room) => {
return room;
});
upon a new (remote) participant connection:
const stream = new MediaStream([audioTrack.mediaStreamTrack]);
const audioContext = new AudioContext();
const audioInput = audioContext.createMediaStreamSource(stream);
source.disconnect(audioOutput);
console.log("using PitchShift.js");
var pitchShift = PitchShift(audioContext);
if (isFinite(pitchVal)) {
pitchShift.transpose = pitchVal;
console.log("gain is " + pitchVal);
}
pitchShift.wet.value = 1;
pitchShift.dry.value = 0.5;
try {
audioOutput.stream.getAudioTracks()[0]?.applyConstraints({
echoCancellation: true,
noiseSuppression: true,
});
} catch (e) {
console.log("tried to constrain audio track " + e);
}
var biquadFilter = audioContext.createBiquadFilter();
// Create a compressor node
var compressor = audioContext.createDynamicsCompressor();
compressor.threshold.setValueAtTime(-50, audioContext.currentTime);
compressor.knee.setValueAtTime(40, audioContext.currentTime);
compressor.ratio.setValueAtTime(12, audioContext.currentTime);
compressor.attack.setValueAtTime(0, audioContext.currentTime);
compressor.release.setValueAtTime(0.25, audioContext.currentTime);
//biquadFilter.type = "lowpass";
if (isFinite(freqVal)) {
biquadFilter.frequency.value = freqVal;
console.log("gain is " + freqVal);
}
if (isFinite(gainVal)) {
biquadFilter.gain.value = gainVal;
console.log("gain is " + gainVal);
}
source.connect(compressor);
compressor.connect(biquadFilter);
biquadFilter.connect(pitchShift);
pitchShift.connect(audioOutput);
const localAudioWarpedTracks = new Video.LocalAudioTrack(audioOutput.stream.getAudioTracks()[0]);
const audioElement2 = document.createElement("audio");
document.getElementById("audio_div").appendChild(audioElement2);

I am using Youtube v3 PHP API to upload videos on youtube. After uploading I check the status of uploaded video using list API. The list API used to give the video in items array in response irrespective of whatever video upload/processing status maybe. But before 4 days, it suddenly stopped sending video info if video upload gets failed for any reason like duplicate upload. How should I fix this?

I have a 20 minute FLV which streams just fine on server. Client would like to preserve user's locations between sessions so time() is saved to mySQL and passed back in as a FlashVar and is (if set) fed to seek() and to a text field for testing. Thing is the seek() works fine locally but on the server I always get a NetStream.Seek.InvalidTime error no matter what the seek() is set to. Docs are here; it's a dead simple function.
// EDIT Just added keyframes to FLV using http://www.buraks.com/flvmdi/ but this did not resolve issue
src = "videos/LivingProof.flv";
nc = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
nets = new NetStream(nc);
mc_flv.attachVideo(nets);
//Attach your netstream audio to a movielcip:
snd.attachAudio(nets);
// create a sound object
my_snd = new Sound(snd);
// to adjust the volume
my_snd.setVolume(50);
nets.play(src);
if (starttime) {
var dest:Number = Math.floor(starttime);
nets.seek(dest);
this.test.text = 'target time = ' + dest;
}
nets.onStatus = function(infoObject:Object) {
if( infoObject.level == "status" && infoObject.code == "NetStream.Play.Stop" ) {
getURL("javascript:setTime('9999999999');", "_self");
nets.seek(0);
nets.pause();
mc_play.gotoAndStop(1);
trace('onStatus listener fired');
} else if (infoObject.code == "NetStream.Seek.InvalidTime") {
_root.test.text = "NetStream.Seek.InvalidTime";
nets.seek(infoObject.details);
}
_root.status.text = infoObject.code;
};
Anyone ever seen this before?
Try adding an if statement to your onStatus handler to check for the NetStream.Play.Start code and move the seek logic to that:
src = "videos/LivingProof.flv";
nc = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
nets = new NetStream(nc);
mc_flv.attachVideo(nets);
//Attach your netstream audio to a movielcip:
snd.attachAudio(nets);
// create a sound object
my_snd = new Sound(snd);
// to adjust the volume
my_snd.setVolume(50);
nets.play(src);
nets.onStatus = function(infoObject:Object) {
if( infoObject.level == "status" && infoObject.code == "NetStream.Play.Stop" ) {
getURL("javascript:setTime('9999999999');", "_self");
nets.seek(0);
nets.pause();
mc_play.gotoAndStop(1);
trace('onStatus listener fired');
} else if (infoObject.code == "NetStream.Play.Start) {
if (starttime) {
var dest:Number = Math.floor(starttime);
nets.seek(dest);
this.test.text = 'target time = ' + dest;
}
} else if (infoObject.code == "NetStream.Seek.InvalidTime") {
_root.test.text = "NetStream.Seek.InvalidTime";
nets.seek(infoObject.details);
}
_root.status.text = infoObject.code;
};
I show a lot of thumbs on my homepage from youtube videos. I was using this function below to grab the thumb from a youtube url which works fast but it doesn't work for url's in the shortned form like youtu.be/JSHDLSKL.
function get_youtube_screen_link( $url = '', $type = 'default', $echo = true ) {
if( empty( $url ) )
return false;
if( !isset( $type ) )
$type = '';
$url = esc_url( $url );
preg_match("|[\\?&]v=([^&#]*)|",$url,$vid_id);
if( !isset( $vid_id[1] ) )
return false;
$img_server_num = 'i'. rand(1,4);
switch( $type ) {
case 'large':
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/0.jpg";
break;
case 'first':
// Thumbnail of the first frame
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/1.jpg";
break;
case 'small':
// Thumbnail of a later frame(i'm not sure how they determine this)
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/2.jpg";
break;
case 'default':
case '':
default:
$img_link = "http://{$img_server_num}.ytimg.com/vi/{$vid_id[1]}/default.jpg";
break;
}
if( $echo )
echo $img_link;
else
return $img_link;
}
So I tried to use Oembed to get the thumbs instead which works for all variations of the youtube url but it retrieves the 480px/360px thumb which causes a lot of cropping to get it down to the 120px/90px size I use to display them. The other issue was it caused my page speed to increase by 4 seconds which Im guessing is a problem with the way I'm implementing it. Here's how I call the thumb inside a loop.
<?php
require_once(ABSPATH.'wp-includes/class-oembed.php');
$oembed= new WP_oEmbed;
$name = get_post_meta($post->ID,'video_code',true);
$url = $name;
//As noted in the comments below, you can auto-detect the video provider with the following
$provider = $oembed->discover($name);
//$provider = 'http://www.youtube.com/oembed';
$video = $oembed->fetch($provider, $url, array('width' => 300, 'height' => 175));
$thumb = $video->thumbnail_url; if ($thumb) { ?>
<img src="<?php echo $thumb; ?>" width="120px" height="90px" />
<?php } ?>
So how should I be doing this to maximize efficiency?
I came across this page from youtube explaining their oembed support, They mentioned that they output to json format so I made a function that gets the json data and then enables you to use it.
Feel free to ask if you need more help.
<?php
$youtube_url = 'http://youtu.be/oHg5SJYRHA0'; // url to youtube video
function getJson($youtube_url){
$baseurl = 'http://www.youtube.com/oembed?url='; // youtube oembed base url
$url = $baseurl . $youtube_url . '&format=json'; // combines the url with format json
$json = json_decode(file_get_contents($url)); // gets url and decodes the json
return $json;
}
$json = getJson($youtube_url);
// from this point on you have all your data placed in variables.
$provider_url = $json->{'provider_url'};
$thumbnail_url = $json->{'thumbnail_url'};
$title = $json->{'title'};
$html = $json->{'html'};
$author_name = $json->{'author_name'};
$height = $json->{'height'};
$thumbnail_width = $json->{'thumbnail_width'};
$thumbnail_height = $json->{'thumbnail_height'};
$width = $json->{'width'};
$version = $json->{'version'};
$author_url = $json->{'author_url'};
$provider_name = $json->{'provider_name'};
$type = $json->{'type'};
echo '<img src="'.$thumbnail_url.'" />'; // echo'ing out the thumbnail image
Ok I came up with a solution from pieces of other questions. First we need to get the id from any type of url youtube has using this function.
function getVideoId($url)
{
$parsedUrl = parse_url($url);
if ($parsedUrl === false)
return false;
if (!empty($parsedUrl['query']))
{
$query = array();
parse_str($parsedUrl['query'], $query);
if (!empty($query['v']))
return $query['v'];
}
if (strtolower($parsedUrl['host']) == 'youtu.be')
return trim($parsedUrl['path'], '/');
return false;
}
Now we can get use YouTube Data API to get the thumbnail from the video id. Looks like this.
<?php
$vid_id = getVideoId($video_code);
$json = json_decode(file_get_contents("http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/$vid_id?v=2&alt=jsonc"));
echo '<img src="' . $json->data->thumbnail->sqDefault . '" width="176" height="126">';
?>
The problem is that is causing an extra 2 seconds load time so I simply use the $vid_id and place it inside http://i3.ytimg.com/vi/<?php echo $vid_id; ?>/default.jpg which gets rid of the 2 seconds added by accessing the youtube api.
I wrote a program that gets youtube video URL and downloads it
Up today I did this:
1. get video "token" from "/get_video_info?video_id=ID" like:
http://www.youtube.com/get_video_info?video_id=jN0nWjvzeNc
2. Download Video by requesting it from "/get_video?video_id=ID&t=TOKEN&fmt=FORMAT_ID" like:
http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=jN0nWjvzeNc&t=vjVQa1PpcFMgAK0HB1VRbinpVOwm29eGugPh3fBi6Dg%3D&fmt=18
But this doesn't work anymore!
What is the new download URL?
Thanks
Actually I'm working on the similar project that downloading the video file from youtube. I find that the get_video might be blocked by Youtube. so instead of using get_video., I use the video info retrieved from get_video_info and extract it to get the video file url.
Within the get_video_info, there are url_encoded_fmt_stream_map. After encoding it, you can find url and signature value of every video with different format. So the file url is like [url value]+'&signature='+[sig value].
Additionally I find the following topic that using same method with mine. Hope it can help you.
Can't Download from youtube
If you are interested about how to downloading youtube video file, there is a small program written by me to demonstrate the process. You are free to use it.
https://github.com/johnny0614/YoutubeVideoDownload
Add &asv=2 to the end of the URL.
You can get the stream directly by using only
http://www.youtube.com/get_video_info?video_id=jN0nWjvzeNc
I made a little script to stream youtube videos in PHP. See how the script get the video file.

See the working demo here. I hope this can help you.
After a lot of failed tries, this github repositories help me:
https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl
Get the url only like:
youtube-dl 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo_efYhYU2A' --get-url
download an mp4 and save as a.mp4 like:
youtube-dl 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo_efYhYU2A' -f mp4 -o a.mp4
Good luck.
Last time I was working on fixing one of the broken Chrome extensions to download YouTube video. I fixed it by altering the script part.
(Javascript)
var links = new String();
var downlink = new String();
var has22 = new Boolean();
has22 = false;
var Marked = false;
var FMT_DATA = fmt_url_map;//This is html text that you have to grab. In case of extension it was readily available through:document.getElementsByTagName('script');
var StrSplitter1 = '%2C', StrSplitter2 = '%26', StrSplitter3 = '%3D';
if (FMT_DATA.indexOf(',') > -1) { //Found ,
StrSplitter1 = ',';
StrSplitter2 = (FMT_DATA.indexOf('&') > -1) ? '&' : '\\u0026';
StrSplitter3 = '=';
}
var videoURL = new Array();
var FMT_DATA_PACKET = new Array();
var FMT_DATA_PACKET = FMT_DATA.split(StrSplitter1);
for (var i = 0; i < FMT_DATA_PACKET.length; i++) {
var FMT_DATA_FRAME = FMT_DATA_PACKET[i].split(StrSplitter2);
var FMT_DATA_DUEO = new Array();
for (var j = 0; j < FMT_DATA_FRAME.length; j++) {
var pair = FMT_DATA_FRAME[j].split(StrSplitter3);
if (pair.length == 2) {
FMT_DATA_DUEO[pair[0]] = pair[1];
}
}
var url = (FMT_DATA_DUEO['url']) ? FMT_DATA_DUEO['url'] : null;
if (url == null) continue;
url = unescape(unescape(url)).replace(/\\\//g, '/').replace(/\\u0026/g, '&');
var itag = (FMT_DATA_DUEO['itag']) ? FMT_DATA_DUEO['itag'] : null;
var itag = (FMT_DATA_DUEO['itag']) ? FMT_DATA_DUEO['itag'] : null;
if (itag == null) continue;
var signature = (FMT_DATA_DUEO['sig']) ? FMT_DATA_DUEO['sig'] : null;
if (signature != null) {
url = url + "&signature=" + signature;
}
if (url.toLowerCase().indexOf('http') == 0) { // validate URL
if (itag == '5') {
links += '<span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v240p">FLV (240p)</span>';
}
if (itag == '18') {
links += '<span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v360p">MP4 (360p)</span>';
}
if (itag == '35') {
links += '<span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v480p">FLV (480p)</span>';
}
if (itag == '22') {
links += '<span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v720p">MP4 HD (720p)</span>';
}
if (itag == '37') {
links += ' <span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v1080p">MP4 HD (1080p)</span>';
}
if (itag == '38') {
links += '<span class="yt-uix-button-menu-item" id="v4k">MP4 HD (4K)</span>';
}
FavVideo();
videoURL[itag] = url;
console.log(itag);
}
}
You can get separate video link from videoURL[itag] array.
The extension can be downloaded from here.
I hope this would help someone. This is working solution (as of 06-Apr-2013)
