I would like to know how can I get all tweets from a certain hash tag?
I am currently using the following code:
xhr.open("GET","http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23PrayForJapan");
This only returns me 15 tweets. Does anyone know how to make it return more?
Also, I have got a code to get me the tweets of a certain screen name, this only returns 20 tweets, how can i ask the following 20 tweets?
The code i used for that is:
xhr.open("GET","http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.json?screen_name=Eminem");
I'm using titanium to create this, but I don't think that is an issue?

You can usually add count=x as parameter to the query string to get up to x tweets (for the search api it seems to be rpp). Query string parameters are added to the base url via ? and each individual parameter is then separated by & as in http://api?user=1&count=4
Most of the time, it is better though to remember the last tweets and then add ?since_id=x as this way you only get tweets you did not see before.

If not, obviously, I'd be retrieving a hundred tweets from each user, and filtering out those which do not have the #hashtag .. but it's not very efficient, right?

Note: I've updated the library so I suggest you grab the newly updated version before trying this - I've made it so you don't need to manually encode each individual character.
This page shows you how to use search, and has a number of operators down toward the bottom of the page. One of these is the OR operator:
Getting tweets for multiple users
OR - Either this or that

So, armed with the above knowledge, I'm guessing your query would look like this:
Translated into a GET request:
?q=from:user1+OR+from:user2
Getting tweets for specific hashtags
So that's how you get tweets for multiple users. The next step you want is for certain hashtags.
#haiku - containing the hashtag "haiku"
That translated individually into the correct format becomes:
?#haiku (or %2C haiku, depending on the library / urlencoding you're using)
Combining the above
The standard AND operator looks like this:
twitter search - containing both "twitter" and "search". Default operator
For a get request:
?twitter+search
So let's combine all this!

I want to make a simple Twitter API get using JSON. The idea is to get only the posts from a known corporation (say BigCorporation) sent to the main corporation (#BigCorporation). The idea is to just get the main annoncements and filter out anytime the BigCoporation answer a question from a follower (i.e. BigCoporation tweets: #someguy we are anwering your question)

Your search query is malformed.
It should be:
http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=#edent%20from:edent&result_type=mixed
That will show you all the tweets I have sent which contains the string "#edent"

The REST method GET https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/user_timeline.json returns the most recent tweets (20 by default) of a user whose username (here BigCorporation) is in the parameter screen_name. When set to true (or t or 1), the exclude_replies parameter excludes the tweets that you want to avoid ("#someguy we are anwering your question").

I'm using the twitter List API to get tweets from a set of accounts that I've added to a list. However, I'm noticing that for some reason I'm not receiving the correct number of tweets in the response from twitter. Here is my URL
https://api.twitter.com/1/lists/statuses.xml?list_id=68707107&per_page=30
I'm clearly asking for 30 results there, however if you just type that into a web browser you'll see it does not return 30 results. Does anyone know why this is?

The per_page attribute it's an "up to" value. If you use the since_id you may get better results. And the pages in the api are being deprecated as you can read in the doc.
Work your solution using the since_id and max_id arguments in the api.

Twitter may be limiting the number of tweets in requests to 20 so you could try downloading 20 and then load the next 10 after that.
I am new to the Twitter API and iOS, but reading the documentation I learned to use the "Twitter.framework" in xCode and the "TWRequest" class in specific.
The most obvious way to go would be to make a request to:
GET statuses/public_timeline
However that request does not allow a parameter to specify a latitude and a longitude to get the most recent public tweets within a country. I did find:
GET geo/search
Which allows me to set all kind of cool parameters such as lat, long and granularity, but unfortunately it does not return tweets in the results.
So is it possible? Or a lost cost?

So I guess I should be using:
GET search
But the only downfall is that I should give a q (query), a search term, but I am not searching for a specific term. I just like to retrieve the most recent public tweets in a given country. So is there, and should I use, a wildcard?
First make a request to:
GET geo/search
To get the place ID. For The Netherlands the ID is 879d7cfc66c9c290.
Then make a search request to:
GET search
With the query:
q=place:{PLACE_ID}
Example: "q=place:879d7cfc66c9c290"
If you like to get the most recent you can also set a parameter called result_type and set it to recent and that's it. Hope it helps people.

This answer was written in 2010. The API it uses has since been retired. It is kept for historical interest only.
Search for it.
Make sure include_entities is set to true to get hashtag results. See Tweet Entities
Returns 5 mixed results with Twitter.com user IDs plus entities for the term "blue angels":
GET http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=blue%20angels&rpp=5&include_entities=true&with_twitter_user_id=true&result_type=mixed
UPDATE for v1.1:
Rather than giving q="search_string" give it q="hashtag" in URL encoded form to return results with HASHTAG ONLY. So your query would become:
GET https://api.twitter.com/1.1/search/tweets.json?q=%23freebandnames
%23 is URL encoded form of #. Try the link out in your browser and it should work.
You can optimize the query by adding since_id and max_id parameters detailed here. Hope this helps !

The answer here worked better for me as it isolates the search on the hashtag, not just returning results that contain the search string. In the answer above you would still need to parse the JSON response to see if the entities.hashtags array is not empty.
