I'm looking for good ruby/rails oriented twitter accounts to follow. Interesting in news/events in life of ruby/rails community.

Yehuda Katz #wycats is a great one to follow.
A great way to search is to search for people's lists.. look at someone like #dhh and see what lists he's in and then look from there.
Here's my Rails List

http://twitter.com/dhh

I watch a twitter search stream of
"ruby on rails" OR #rails
http://twitter.com/sof_ruby isn't Rails oriented but some questions (such as this one) do come up.

I'm trying to learn code and currently running through the exercises within codecademy for Rails.
Though I find this a good learning resource, i'm struggling to understand the relevance of the commands etc to "real life", so I can relate to it.
Can anyone recommend "real life" projects to work through on line re. rails, so I can piece all the fundamental pieces together, whilst seeing what my actions do to the outcome project.
Thank you in advance.
Brendan
Have a look at www.ulearnr.com they seem to have some good foundation tutorials on ruby on rails.
I can recommend you the Ruby on Rails tutorial by Michael Hartl. It focuses on stuff that matters by developing a Twitter-like app step by step. Also, it is free to read online..

I'm starting a new webs site and they offer me for Search Engine Jumpstart, should I buy it?
What's your opinion about that?
Search Engine Jumpstart says that you get rapid indexing on Google, Yahoo, and Bing (in days). There are easier ways to do this yourself: Ping your website using a service like Pingomatic.
In the end it's not worth it.
Depends on the features of the services, It it's SEO then it's use to market your site on google, bing etc... ranks it so more people can you find you based on what you provide, finding you through keywords, it's a good way to start if you actually have product

Whats your opinion on translation services and which one would be a good fit for rails project with 2,3 but growing number of languages?
Perhaps we can compile a list of services with pro's and con's.
I have looked at:
http://www.localeapp.com ( very nice but a bit pricey above the 500 + strings )
https://webtranslateit.com
http://www.smartling.com
http://99translations.com
Any recomendations on what service would be a good fit ?
If you need an affordable solution, you might want to take a look at PhraseApp as well: https://phraseapp.com
Have you looked at CopyCopter? It was commercial service, but it turned into open source project. You have nice screencast on railscasts on the topic: http://railscasts.com/episodes/336-copycopter

Can you sell software built using Ruby on Rails? If so are there any pitfalls in doing so?
Is it any different to selling software built with PHP for example?
Edit: to elaborate - could I build a forum app like vB and sell that as they do?
If you want legal advice ask a lawyer. Any answer given here would be worthless, even if a lawyer did answer they are not "Your" lawyer.
Rails is under the MIT License
Ruby is under the Ruby License
In general you would find your code to be your code.
