I have been developing a BlackBerry application for about 7 months, and I have started to do a lot of testing.
Does anyone have any advice on the best way to test my application on different BlackBerry devices (without having to purchase them)? I have the BlackBerry Tour and the BlackBerry Storm, but I can only have my Verizon network on one at a time.
Is there a specific way that mobile developers go through this type of testing?
If you join the BlackBerry Alliance program, they have various Smartphone programs to get devices for development and testing.
try this deviceanywhere
they are providing remote access for variety of blackberry devices.
For the most part, the simulators that come with the JDE are true to the real thing.
You can try www.perfectomobile.com. They charge an hourly rate, but you can get 7 free hours.

I already have some apps created with Adobe AIR on Android market and I'm planning to use Adobe AIR to create apps for iOS.
It will be very helpfully for me and others like me to share some resources that you use to create AIR apps for iOS. By resources I mean: Softwares to emulate iOS devices or maybe other softwares that are needed, and so on...
Do you need extra expenses beside market's fee ?
What tools do you use to develop or test iOS apps on Windows, except Flash AIR ?
Any other informations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If you want to simulate iOS devices, you need a Mac with XCode on it.
I used the build in emulator and real devices (most often). Although not totally related but use Adobe Scout for debugging (all kinds of info like network calls, gpu rendering etc.) on real devices very helpful since you don't have Xcode's Instruments at you disposal.
I'd like to test my application made by Titanium mobile on multiple devices.
The issue is, I do not care whatever would happen on my iphone, but not on the other iphones.
Actually, I just have only one iphone, but I need to test on more than several devices (iPhone, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod) so I now borrow some of them from my friends.
Since my friends seriously do not want me to mess their devices up, I need to do test with no trouble such as losing their applications data.
and I did some research about this, and now I understand if I import my application to their devices through the right way formally recommended by appcelerator, those devices will lose their individual data because it's implemented via my iTunes.
Is there any good way to achieve my testing ?
I would really appreciate it if anyone show the way.
Many thanks in advance.
You should try out the Ad Distribution:
With Ad Hoc distribution you can share your application with up to 100
other iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch users. Through email or by posting
it to a website or server, users can download and install your app.
or check out TestFlight
A free testing service for mobile developers, managers and testers.
Do i have to write different applications for Blackberry touch devices and Blackberry non-touch devices? or single application works for both?
Any suggestions for writing code for device using trackball or touch or both?
Suggest some references for the same.
Very much confused regarding
Which OS is to be targeted.
What devices should we acquire from client for testing the application?
I'm assuming we're talking about Java apps here. If so, the same application will work on both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices. You can use the Touchscreen.isSupported() API to determine what kind of device you're on.
I develop and test applications for BlackBerry 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 and 5.0, but have done testing only with the respective simulators. Now I am about to buy a new BlackBerry device to test my applications better in a real scenario.
Can anyone suggest which device suits my needs?
Hi
I'm not sure about this model but i do know that in other cellphones you need to change the software version every time. Because you mentioned that you want to build apps for different OS versions.
You should try to locate a device that is the easiest one to change OS version and be able to downgrade and upgrade without any errors.
thanks
The current BB devices on the market are generally 5.x and up. You have to define a minimum version you'll support. As long as your app doesn't do too much hackery JDE versions are upwardly compatible.
Simulators generally model real devices well except for the networking. You see some differences especially GSM vs. CDMA devices. Ex. if you ask for the device's phone number (in the NAMP) it may or may not start with a 1.
If you're on a budget or decide to buy multiple devices you might want to try Curve 8520 - it's one of the cheaper new models, comes with BlackBerry OS 4.6 upgradable to 5.0, but still has most of the functionality you might need, except for the GPS.
Additionally it has one of the lower resolutions RIM has to offer (320x240), so if your apps are UI intensive you can see if they work well with entry level models.
Hope it's of any help.
I want to develop a BlackBerry Application.

I you haven't done so already you should visit :

Java seems to be the development standard on BlackBerry phones
Java 5.0 : The new gold standard for
Java® development on the BlackBerry
Application Platform.
You'll get all the information you need on their developers' site.
They also provide simulators per blackberry model.
Hope this helps
The 8520 is the #1 BlackBerry handset in South Africa. I guess it depends on the country.
Have a look at Admob's Metrics that they release detailing different top handsets in different segments.
WorldWide it's: BlackBerry 8700, BlackBerry 8100 and then the BlackBerry 8830 according to their data.
Also check Opera Mini's stats.
