I needed to install IdentityTrainingKitApril2020.VS2010, it made me install WindowsIdentityFoundation-SDK-4.0.
But setup WIF SDK fails with this message :
"Setup has detected that .NET Framework 4.0 is not installed on the system. Please choose the correct WIF SDK(3.5/4.0) installer based on the version of
the .NET Framework you intend to use."
My Machine : Windows 7 Enterprise, VS2010 Professional RTMRel Version :10.0.30319.1 . NET Version:4.0.30319 RTMRel.
I have installed : Windows6.1-KB974405-x86 (WIF Runtime)
I had this exact problem. It looks like the installer doesn't have permission to check the required registry key to confirm the .NET Framework is installed. I got around the problem by running the installer from a Administrator cmd prompt:
Right-click cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator
CD to the appropriate directory, then execute "msiexec /i WindowsIdentityFoundation-SDK-4.0.msi"
Cheers,
Andrew
I used Orca to remove the launch condition

While installing the package Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.Tools for using EF in my project using Nuget, I'm persistently running into the below error. Notice I didn't get any error while installing other related packages used for EF core
Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore
Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.Relational
Microsoft.EntityFrameworkCore.SqlServer
Here is the location of the file ef.exe
Basically the intention behind installing this package is to use EF command-line tools. I'm currently on Windows 10 and the .NET SDK installed on my machine is 3.1. I had previously 2 SDK's installed on my system(3.1 & 5.0). As per microsoft's documentaion, "The .NET CLI must choose an SDK version for every dotnet command. It uses the latest SDK installed on the machine by default." Therefore I went ahead and uninstalled .NET 5.0 SDK
Here are some of the solutions that I tried:
Deleting the package folder from '.nuget/packages/microsoft.entityframeworkcore.tools' & thereby the executable i.e. 'ef.exe' and reinstalling the same.
Installing the same package using dotnet cli.
Running Visual Studio 2019 as admin.
Deleted the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions"
I have also tried some of the steps mentioned here on github: https://github.com/NuGet/Home/issues/1138
. Any kind of help would be really appreciated.
I have answered the detailed description of the solution here on microsoft's .NET Q&A platform.
'EntityFramework.Core.Tools' nuget package installation error
I followed instruction in this page:
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/aspnet/asp-net-core-and-blazor-updates-in-net-core-3-0-preview-8/
My PC system : Windows 10 Pro/ Version 1803/ OS build: 17134.950
1) Have updated VS2019 Preview to version 16.3.0 Preview 2.0
2) Install the SDK and Runtime from this link:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core/3.0#runtime-3.0.0-preview8
2a) SDK 3.0.100-preview8-013656
selected and installed: x64 and x86
Net Core Installer :x64 | x86
2b) Runtime 3.0.0-preview8-28405-07
instruction not clear so :
Selected and installed : 1) and 2) x64 and x86
1) ASP.NET Core/.NET CORE: Runtime & Hosting Bundle
2) ASP.NET Core Installer: x64| x86
3) run this command in: COMMAND Promt , Power Shell as well as use package manager console in VS2019
dotnet new -i Microsoft.AspNetCore.Blazor.Templates::3.0.0-preview8.19405.7
Launch VS2019 Preview and create a Blazor WebAssembly App
click the rebuild to build and it shows below Error Messages:
Problem:
CS0234 The type or namespace name 'LayoutAttributeAttribute' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft.AspNetCore.Components' (are you missing an assembly reference?) for these pages:
Counter.razor.g.cs
FetchData.razor.g.cs
Index.razor.g.cs
_imports.razor.g.cs
Please help how to resolve this problem.
Update:
1) With just x64 Net core SDK, After creating the Blazor project, it will contain empty projects for client/share/server.
2) So, I installed another x86 net core Sdk. With both X64 & X86, this will show the Msg at the step of selecting Template: The .NET Core SDK is installed in multiple locations. Only templates from the SDKs installed at 'C:\Program Files\dotnet\sdk\' are displayed. But Blazor project will not be empty but have the same problem as above after you did a rebuild solution.
3) uninstall x64. With x86 only, it will still show the msg:
The .NET Core SDK is installed in multiple locations. Only templates from the SDKs installed at 'C:\Program Files\dotnet\sdk\' are displayed. But Blazor project will not be empty but have the same problem as above after you did a rebuild solution.
Thanks
I want to install Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 .. so i should install .NET Framework 4 But there is an error i can't solve it ..
i tried to uninstall installed .NET frame work from "Program and Features"
But I don't know which one to be uninstall .. and i'm afraid if another program use it
First we need to find the installed package. For that enable Windows Installer logging.
1) In run open gpedit.msc or you can google how to open group policy editor
2) Expand in left panel Computer Configuration -->Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Windows Installer
3) On right panel open Logging and Enable it and in option Logging voicewarmupx
4) Restart your PC
Now Windows Installer logging is enabled. Next we need to find and uninstall the conflicting package.
1) Open windows %temp% (can be opened by typing %temp% in run) and delete all files. If something cant be deleted leave it.
2) Run the .NET Framework 4 installer again. After the installer fails, close it.
3) Open windows %temp% again and open the log file (file would be MSIxxxxx.LOG, eg:MSI232f1.LOG)
4) Search for a line saying PROPERTY CHANGE: Adding NEWERVERSIONDETECTED property. Its value is {xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx}'. Value will be different depending on the package that is already installed.
5) Open command prompt and run msiexec /uninstall {xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx}
6) Now try installing .NET Framework 4 Installer again. This time it will succeed.
Also don't forget to disable Windows Installer logging. Using the same way you enabled it.
You can check if you allready installed .Net 4 in registry
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft.NETFramework\v4.0.30319
I am using Visual studio for mac. I need to install some packages but I can't find package manager console for that.
Visual studio version: Preview 1 (7.0 build 347)
Warning:
A commenter reports this extension crashes VS Community 2019 for Mac version 8.5 (Build 3183). I haven't upgraded to it, so I can't speak to this. Anyone with information/fix/alternate approach, please chime in down in the comments.
OK:
At least in Visual Studio Community 8.4.8 build 2, you can find it under Visual Studio-->Extensions, using search term "nuget":
It took me so long to find this I hope it helps someone else find it faster!
Similar to Xamarin Studio, you have to use its dialog,
https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/xamarin-studio/nuget_walkthrough/
As there was no cross platform PowerShell, Xamarin Studio lacks of Package Manager Console. It might come one day in Visual Studio for Mac. We will see.
You can follow the NuGet CLI reference and install it
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/nuget/tools/nuget-exe-cli-reference
An excerpt from that link provided reads:
macOS/Linux
Behaviors may vary slightly by OS distribution.
Install Mono 4.4.2 or later.
Execute the following commands at a shell prompt:
# Download the latest stable `nuget.exe` to `/usr/local/bin`
sudo curl -o /usr/local/bin/nuget.exe https://dist.nuget.org/win-x86-commandline/latest/nuget.exe
# Give the file permissions to execute
sudo chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/nuget.exe
Create an alias by adding the following script to the appropriate file for your OS (typically ~/.bash_aliases or ~/.bash_profile):
# Create as alias for nuget
alias nuget="mono /usr/local/bin/nuget.exe"
Reload the shell. Test the installation by entering nuget with no parameters. NuGet CLI help should display.
I found a good reference for mac users:
https://github.com/mrward/monodevelop-nuget-extensions
Thanks for the reference and it works for me.
I am creating a stand alone application for a client and I am going to use Microsoft Enterprise Library. My question is do I need to install Microsoft Enterprise Library on client machine too for the application to work?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
No you shouldn't need to install it on the client machine, as long as you include the dependent DLLs with your installer.
If the references have "Copy Local" set to true, when you build your application, it will copy the DLLs to your output directory, and so it will not need them installed in the GAC.
You don't have to "install" it separately per se, you just have to copy the DLL to where your application's assembly is installed at. Depending on your settings, visual studio already does this for you.
