I need some help accessing a server that I have running on my mac. So basically my setup consists of mac on which I'm running my server and also using XCode to run the app on an iPhone connected via USB. And then both this iPhone and the mac are on the same wiFi network which is a personal hotspot that I have running on a different iPhone. I'm trying to access localhost from the iPhone by basically using my mac's IP address and the right port: http://IPADDRESS:PORT/, however this doesn't seem to work. Any ideas as to what may be going on here and potential workarounds or solutions. Connecting to a non hotspot, traditional wifi network is not an option at the moment.
Thanks!
This will work if you have it set up correctly; I am doing it right now. Remember that you have to bind the server to 0.0.0.0 — not 127.0.0.1 — if you want to connect from non-localhost IPs. Also check your system firewall.
If you're still having trouble, Tailscale is another solution that may help — https://tailscale.com
I suggest you take a look at using ngrok as a solution, this will create a secure tunnel and expose the service running on your Mac through a url.
You'll need to create an account and retrieve your auth token.
You can then install it using Homebrew by running in Terminal: brew cask install ngrok
Once installed, connect your account by typing into Terminal: ngrok authtoken [auth_token]
To start a tunnel, type into Terminal: ngrok [protocol] [port number]
For example, to start a tunnel to a HTTP server running on your mac: ngrok http 80 (or ngrok http 443 for HTTPS)
If its a custom TCP protocol use: ngrok tcp [port] (or ngrok tls [port] if using TLS)
This will then give you a URL to use in your app. On free accounts, the URL will change on each restart, paid accounts get a static URL option.
If you don't have Homebrew, download it from and follow instructions on: https://ngrok.com/download
I have a server running on localhost:5000 on my desktop, and when I make http requests through my react-native app when running on the iOS simulation to it, it works. However, when I connect to a real device, the http requests don't work. What am I doing wrong? Is there something I have to configure?
localhost in your desktop is not the same ip of the localhost of your device.
Get the ip of your computer by typing ifconfig in a terminal, then replace localhost by this ip, you should type something like that in your device browser:
192.168.0.23:5000
Maybe my answer is too late but I ran into a similar situation today and I got it to work by running my node server using the IPv4 of my desktop and then making the request to that IP.
For example, I am running my nodejs development server at http://192.168.0.135:3000(local IP of my desktop) instead of localhost and then I make the fetch API request from my react-native app to http://192.168.0.135:3000/.
Just make sure your nodejs server and your app are on the same local network. My react-native server (metro bundler) is running on a separate PC also in the same wifi network.
If your are on macOS go to settings -> Wifi / and show more,
on bottom you see "IP address", it's your correct localhost for ios physical device !
I am using DDEv and Docker with Windows 10 pro to set up a localhost install of drupal 8.8 using Composer. I have set up and configured the local drupal installation (it is a fresh install) and it appears to be running correctly, but in the admin section of the drupal site I receive a warning to change write permissions of sites/default/settings.php.
I tried to change settings using Filezilla, but it appears that local files in Filezilla do not provide access to write permissions? When I right-click the file in Filezilla, no permissions option appears.
Following troubleshooting tips from ddev, I tried to access phpmyadmin at https://mysitename.ddev.site:8036
Instead of loading phpmyadmin, I got the following error message:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to dmckimep.ddev.site:8036. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

I've been searching around for a couple of hours now and do not find a solution to this. I ran ddev describe and all seems fine with the installation. The drupal site in the container seems to run okay. There are no port conflicts present so far as I have found, so I am not sure why I cannot get access to phpmyadmin.
I am a relative newbie in terms of skills, but have successfully maintained drupal 4-7 on localhost with XAMPP and my web host. Now I am wrestling with the move to drupal 8/composer/docker/ddev. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Update 2022-09-14: DDEV has had https support fpr PHPMyAdmin and MailHog for years now, ddev describe will show you the URL.
(Original answer) ddev's PHPMyAdmin connection doesn't support https, just http. You can find the links for both PHPMyAdmin and MailHog using ddev describe; both are http-only, as in your example, http://mysitename.ddev.site:8036. It would be possible to provide https URLs for PHPMyAdmin and MailHog, but nobody has ever asked for them, and there's no security reason to do so.
Note that the key reason for https on the actual project URL is because real projects run behind https and people need to see problems like mixed content during the development phase. But there's no such need for PHPMyAdmin. However, I'm sure if people ever want it, we'll do it, it's not hard to do.
Just as a general add on, after ddev start you can run ddev launch -p in order to open PHPMyAdmin for the current project database in the browser.
I am trying to run my first Grails app and I am getting a error when I try to go to localhost:8080. It just refuses to connect.
I followed Dan Vega's instructions in his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlMyRGIJNa0 carefully but I cannot get my app to run.
I have tried to change the host but couldn't get to the right place to do so. Any help would be much appreciated.
You can change you server port. You need to add in application.yml as follow to run
server:
port: 8181
I'm trying to run a Xcode server with remote access.
I've been trying to log in from a client/node PC, with no success. There's a message with the IP and a warning "No services unavailable".
Is there something I'm missing here?
Screenshot is attached.
Thanks.
Since from attached picture everything is running perfectly locally, I'm almost sure that the problem is in your router. So on router in port forwarding you have to open:
For Xcode Integration the only ports needed are 20300,20343-20345
For Website 80,443
And you have to make sure that you're have global IP address
