Showing the textfield directly above keyboard when editing - ios

I would like to try and make the text field appear above the keyboard when in editing mode, as shown in this picture, which is in the app Clash of Clans:
Is this achievable through some code or doing stuff in the Interface Builder, or have Supercell (makers of Clash of Clans) done this themselves?

You should look into the inputAccessoryView.
As it says here:
This property is typically used to attach an accessory view to the system-supplied keyboard that is presented for UITextField and UITextView objects.
You add the inputAccessoryView to the individual UITextField and UITextView views you have on your page, meaning that you can have separate inputAccessoryViews for the various textfields if so desired.
So in your case you would need to create your own view containing a UITextField and that checkmark button you have on the right and then add that view as a inputAccessoryView to your textfields and then it should appear right above your keyboard.
Hope that is enough to get you started, now you at least know that you should search for inputAccessoryView to see what can be done :)

Custom Keyboard Accessory view input

I have created a custom accessory view to supplement the standard Apple alpha iOS keyboard.
The purpose is to add a line of numeric keys to prevent flipping back and forth between keyboard views. At first, I created a toolbar and loaded it with a set of 0 - 9 titled buttonItems and it functioned quite well. However, it looked terrible, not at all like the alpha keys despite adding a rounded rect background image to each key because the system apparently prevents customizing font size and button spacing inside the stack view of the toolbar. Therefore, I created a UIView xib and loaded it with a stackView full of customized numerical buttons. When I add the UIView as the accessory view it looks pretty darn close to the rest of the Apple Alpha keyboard. The issue now is that the touch-up events go to the UIView class of the accessory view. Is there a clever, efficient way to have the button presses in the accessory emulate the std keyboard feeding into TextField: shouldChangeCharactersIn? I could package the button presses into a local notification event to get it into the class holding the textField but that seems terribly inelegant! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Not the best answer, but I did implement notification on key button press with an observer in the main view class. The observer does a TextField.insertText which is suboptimal since I will need to refactor the several hundred lines of code that performs real-time language translation in the shouldChangeCharacters methods. Ah well.

Misuse of UITextField.inputView to get similar popup behavior of keyboard

I often want to put my own things in the same place the keyboard pops up, but for my own controls... such as putting a UIDatePicker there, or a custom UIPickerView, or whatever.
I came up with a clumsy way of getting this behavior by having a dummy UITextField and putting my custom view in its inputView property. Then when the user clicks on my item, I just trigger off the UITextField to display the view I've assigned to the inputView.
Then I got to wondering if there was a better less kludgey way to do this. I found this article Show UIPickerView like a keyboard, without UITextField where several people recommend the same thing I do.
My question is this. Is it common to (mis)use the UITextField in this manner?
Many times you will face a UITextfield that you would want to populate through a custom control other than the standrd keyboard. Thus the inputView method was declared and can be used.
What is recommended:
1- if the UItextfield is normal, use the keybard (don't change the input view)
2- if the value is numeric, show the numberpad in keyboard directly (textField.keyboardType = .numberPad)
3- if your textField is a date then you set the input view as a date picker.
4- sometimes you need a UITextField where you need to choose between stuff. Thus you develop your own custom UIPicker and set it as an input View.
5- If what you are tring to achieve don't fall in all the above then you can do your own inputView and assign it.
So in short don't be afraid, it is the normal thing to do!

Is it possible to add a Done key to ALL keyboards in an app?

Is it possible to add a done or cancel key which dismisses a keyboard to all keyboards in an iOS app? There are several posts asking how to dismiss a keyboard via a cancel or done button, but the solutions are on a field by field basis.
Are there any solutions that add this functionality globally so the code wont need to be duplicated for each textfield/area in an application?
Like #silentBob says in his answer, the inputAccessoryView of a text field is the view that’s displayed immediately above the keyboard when the text field is the first responder. If you didn’t want to write an extension on UITextField to override the -inputAccessoryView method, you could also create a subclass of UITextField to do the same, which would make it easier to determine which method is going to be called. You could also have multiple subclasses of UITextField to customize which button(s) appear. If you have a text field in a storyboard, you can simply change the class to your custom subclass, so while you have to go through and make those changes, you don’t have to do it in code.
Yes, you can add an extension to UITextField class, which should add a UIToolbar with Done and Cancel actions as UITextField inputAccessoryView.
Well, In that case you have to customise the keyboard, built your own keyboard and do whatever you need to do with your key in the keyboard.

Editing keyboard layout in iOS

Is there a possibility to change the button layout on a pre-made ios keyboard?
I would like to add "done" and "punctuation" buttons to numeric keyboard.
There is the Decimal Pad available but in this case i would have to add a custom done button at the top.
Is there a way to move the "delete" button to the right and make it half of its current width, put next to it the "decimal" button and on the former place of "delete" locate "done"?
No, you'll have to implement your own keyboard, if you duplicate the Apple one it will get rejected.
iOS does not support making those types of changes to the keyboard, the only thing you can do is change the text associated with the Done/Enter button by changing the UIReturnKeyType of the associated UITextField.
You can make a View With the buttons you want and set the inputView to the custom view you made ,, and you got a custom keyboard :D
You cannot directly modify the keyboard other than by choosing one of apple's presets. However, it is possible to add additional keys above it using -inputAccessoryView, like WolframAlpha has done in its app.
It looks like you can replace the keyboard entirely, but the accesory view is probably the way to go. See the answer to Adding key to IPad keyboard
EDIT: For an example of how this would look, check out WolframAlpha's blog post on the subject. In your case the accessory view probably won't be quite so tall

UITextField not receiving touch event

I have a UITextField in a complex view hierarchy. The text field is in a UIView with label and textfield, say, labelfield.
I can type text there.
There is info button on top right corner. When tap on Info, a modal view controller is loaded. When coming back from the modal view controller, the UITextField becomes unresponsive. I cannt type anything there. The labelfiedl is drawn and shown in the screen.
Interesting thing is that, if I press the ok button, and alert is shown and then the textfield becomes active. Also, on top of the view, there is some text with user interaction enable, if I tap and try to select the text and after that the textfield becomes active. Seems I have to do some other activity/touch on the super view, then the text field becomes active.
Why not on the first case it receive any touch event? I tried with textField.enabled, becomesFirstResponder, setNeedsDisplay in the viewDidApper method, nothing works.
Try the following...
Make sure that the super view to which the text field is added as subview large enough to contain text field(ie make sure that no part of text field is out side the superview. check this for all views).
Make sure that there is no view above textfield.use bringSubViewToFront: method.
Try to enable use interaction after a delay
