I have a framework embedded in an iOS app project. It already had some files for some Swift classes added to the framework target, they are listed in its "Compile Sources" build phase, and I can use those classes in the rest of the app when importing the framework.
Now I need to add some more files with classes to that same embedded framework. I added them to the framework's target "Compile Sources" like the other files already there, and in the File Inspector for each of those new files I can see their "Target Membership" is correctly set to the framework.
If I build the app, I also see that in the "Products" folder in the Project Navigator that the MyFramework.framework is also built, but when I try to use my new classes in the app, the build of the app fails because I get an Use of unresolved identifier error message. They are not visible, if I cmd+click on the import MyFramework in top of the file where I have it, the public interface that appears only shows me the classes I had already in the framework but not the new ones I added.
I'm trying to look for a solution for this issue with no success, what could I be missing?

I dragged a .xcodeproj of a framework to top of my project, and embed the .framemork file, when I build the project, I'm getting error No such module in one of the files of the framework(the modules it can't find are Cocoapods libraries), but if I switch Scheme to the framework's, it builds successful, if I switch back to my project, it throws the same error in the framework.
I attached images below, you can also see that there are two different targets on the images.
Go to your Project Target Settings, under section Frameworks, Libraries and Embedded Content check that your dragged framework is Embed & Sign or Embed without signing
I created a project and imported it inside this framework. When i load this framework into a demo app, i am able to access the public class MyTest inside MyTest.swift file but not able to access the public class inside MessagesViewController.swift. Am i missing something? Can't we access files inside a project through a framework this way?
Restructure your project space so that you do not have your application inside your framework, then tackle linking files between the app and the framework.
Create a xcworkspace file to contain all of your sub-projects. For more information check out the Xcode Workspace section in the Xcode Concepts document
Open the workspace file and add your framework and app projects by dragging the xcodeproj files to the "Project Navigation" panel. Be careful when adding the files as Xcode as a tendency to place one project inside another, you don't want this.
Build your framework and then link it to the the app project. This will also make all you framework files available to your app project as long as they are public(see below for more details). Navigate to the FireChat-Swift app project target in the editor view then from the frameworks project open the product directory and drag the framework file to the Embedded Binaries section of the general tab.
Now your framework is linked with your app project. You will need to import your framework in your app's source code.
Add new files to your framework and remember they need to be public should you require them to be used outside of the framework - i.e. by your app.
Did you add MessagesViewController.swift to the Target inside the original Project?
To check it just open the original project, select MessagesViewController.swift and take a look at the right sidebar (Target Membership section).
I had this problem, and I fixed mine by going to my framework and adding target membership to Tests and UITests:
Strange fix, but I guess it works! 🤷♂️
This can also occur as part of a bug in Xcode, though I'm not sure what causes it - possibly dragging files from another project into your library. I just fixed this by closing down and restarting Xcode, then cleaning the build folder (hold down Alt then select the option from the Product menu).
I want to import my custom module/framework in my Swift project on Xcode 7. I understand how to normally do it. But I don't want to keep dragging and dropping my framework and linking it every time I make a new project. I was thinking I could move the framework to folders in the iPhoneOS.sdk/../Frameworks folder and/or the iPhoneSimulator.sdk/../Frameworks folder. Without dragging or dropping my custom framework into the project, I can import module (with autocomplete). However I get an error "Could not build Objective-C module 'Tumblr'". Is there a Setting in Build Settings I am missing.
**The Tumblr module is a module I created.
I have also created a .tbd and module.map files for the framework existing in the iPhoneOS.sdk
Drag your module's x-code project into the left pane with all the files.
Then click on your main project file and go to general, scroll down to Embedded Binaries and add it through the menu there.
I want to add the PLCrashFramework in my app. This frameworks deals with crash reporting for iOS/MAC applications. What I did
Downloaded and unzipped the .zip file from the URL I have already provided.
In Xcode "Build Phases" -> Link Binary With Libraries
From the pop up "Choose frameworks and libraries to add"
Select "Add Other"... and select "CrashReporter.framework" and Open
After those steps I successfully built the project without problems.
I closed the Xcode, opened it again and tried to build. The build failed with
"header file not found", referring to a header file that belongs to the framework.
Why the xcode 6 does not find the header after closing and reopening the project?
Check your Framework Search Paths and Library Search Paths in your project's Build Settings. Check if you have a space in your directory structure. It's probably looking for 2 folders, one with the first part of the folder structure and one with the second. To fix this, simply add quotes around the whole folder structure.
You should add the framework though add file in project navigator by right click and select add file in your project and than browse to framework location and add framework. Remember to check copy file in your project it is must do. In this way Xcode will manage library header search path. You can see the framework will be added in Xcode "Build Phases" -> Link Binary With Libraries. If it is somehow not there you can add it by dragging framework from project navigator. The error will be gone.
Alternative titles to aid search:
Adding Embedded Binaries fails in Xcode
Xcode won't link framework from separate project
App crashes on device because of missing framework, works in simulator
Overview
After deleting the "DerivedData" folder (or performing a "Product > Clean") in xcode6, I cannot add CocoaTouch frameworks from another project to the "Embedded Binary" section (under General tab).
Or, Xcode hits a linker error because it cannot find a framework that if previously could.
Other symptoms
Clicking on the + under "Embedded Binaries" shows the Framework selector but selecting a framework in different project in the workspace does nothing.
When you add the framework to the Embedded Binaries, there will be a reference added to your project for it. If you select that reference after your steps above, you will probably find that it has an Absolute Path reference to the framework rather than a relative one, which we'd like. Change the location to Relative to Build Products and the reference should always be discoverable if do a "hard" clean or use another computer etc.
I have made a video which describes how best to add a built framework from one project to an app target in another sibling project.
This it the only way i have discovered to restore the embedded binaries, please leave comments if you find some steps are not required.
Prerequisites: Read Daniel Tull's answer.
Remove all framework projects from the workspace
Perform a "clean build" and/or remove the "DerivedData"
Add project back into the workspace
Build the project (possibly optional)
In the General tab of the app target click the + under "Linked Frameworks and Libraries", select the framework.
Build and run in the Simulator (there should be no issues building or running)
Build and run for device (this might cause a crash due to the framework not being correctly linked, ignore this crash)
Click the + under "Embedded Binaries", select the framework. This should add it to the project (possible duplicate under "Linked Frameworks and Libraries")
Repeat for all required frameworks
Once building and running (on device) is confirmed you can remove any duplicate (and/or red) frameworks in the Project Navigator or target General tab
Just to add to #Daniel's answer, if your Location dropdown is greyed out you may have selected the wrong file. Make sure to select the framework that's in your app project (not framework project).
