Umbraco: Multiple approvals after upgrading to 6.2.6 - umbraco

Umbraco 6
Hi there,
We've just upgraded our Umbraco site from v6.1.6 to v6.2.6. Our Admins have noticed that they are receiving 3 approval emails each time that an editor submits (in v 6.1.6 they only received 1 approval email). Is this a known issue, or is there anywhere that we could look to see where this is set?
Thanks Ben

I'm not aware of that being an issue on 6.2.6. You can check the database and see if the alerts are configured multiple times (they shouldn't be though, unless something has gone haywire)?
The table this info lives in is: umbracoUser2NodeNotify. You can check in there to see if users are configured to get multiple alerts.

Email clients access my webapp with changed / strange URLs

For a few years now I observe a strange behaviour, most likely triggered by enduser's email clients using my webapp (Ruby on Rails system, doesn't matter tho).
I am running a mid sized business and send out thousands of mails to my customers each month who buy leads from me.
The emails include two links, one to buy the lead and the other to give feedback. There is a dynamic part in both URLs which is a UUID, example:
offer/968ec0c1-e105-4c70-95b2-fd0c799b58f3
and
feedback/968ec0c1-e105-4c70-95b2-fd0c799b58f3
Every now and then, my webapp gets accessed at the same time on both links (which makes me confident it is not the user since it is the very same second they get accessed) but with different dynamic parts in the url, so i see in my logs
offer/NGVjZjA0YT
and
feedback/NGVjZjA0YT
It is always a random string with a length of 10 chars.
So this is not a big deal since it happens only 1-2 times per week and as far as I can tell no user is really affected by this, but still I wonder what's behind this. Did any of you experience a similar thing?
Maybe an email client wants to crawl / load a preview, seeing an uuid pattern in the url and changes it because whatever?!
I disabled link click tracking in the email sending provider (sendgrid), just as a side note. So they won't / shouldn't replace the email links. Also experienced this when sending links via AWS SES.
Im just curious. Any ideas or experiences? Thanks in advance & have a great day!

Send email to Umbraco 4

I helping a client with a Umbraco 4 solution. When they send a email message to some special email addresses Umbraco picks them up and creates news post with the email subject, message and picture. One of the emails are failing. Do any of you now where i need to look?
That's not very specific, this could have been achieved in one of many ways. Umbraco doesn't have anything like that built in, so my guess would be that there's a scheduled task that checks the email account somewhere and creates the posts.
To check if the scheduled task is being run by Umbraco, look in /config/umbracoSettings.config and look for the <scheduledTasks> element. If there's something listed there, that might give you a clue of where to look.
If there's nothing there, the task is probably being run from elsewhere (windows task scheduler, or event hooks on the mail server maybe), so you'd have to look there.
You could also check the /config/BaseRestExtensions.config file and see if there are any endpoints listed there that might give you a clue as to where the code that does the page creation might live.

In Atlassian Jira 4.1.2 how can I make a profile that may only view users of the system?

Experience with Jira is based on what I have seen from clicking through the project. There is no knowledge transfer as all people who knew this customized system left over a year ago.
As for the Atlassian PDF guide, it is not able to assist because the feature to add users and manage the users in Jira have been removed. An external LDAP system is where the users are managed.
I can view the User Browser and see users and do some editing of a profile and even delete the user from a navigation link in the footer.
But the real question at hand is, what do I need to do in order to
A. Assign users to an Organization Role that only allows them
1: A view only mode of the users in that Organization
2: View the details of the user and that users permissions/roles given
I've been looking for a few days now and just keep running into brick walls.
Thank you.
The upgrading of the system to the new version is not an option due to the extensive undocumented modifications made to Jira. It has been tried 3 times in the past 2 years without success.
I am answering based on JIRA 5.2 and higher experience.
Only place to see list of users is User Manager and you need to be JIRA admin to access it. So it's not a solution for you.
I searched for addon doing this but no luck. Moreover your JIRA is too old to be supported by addon providers.
The same story with JIRA REST API. Looks like for JIRA 4.1 you need to use JIRA REST 1.0 (current is 2.0) and I can not find docs for it.
I believe it's possible to write the addon to accomplish what you need but again it's not smart to invest in obsolete JIRA.
The most right solution is still migrate to the newest version of JIRA. Maybe you need abandon the undocumented changes or rewrite them into JIRA addons. It will not be easy and it can be costly but looks like you do not have too many options.
Task has been abandoned.
No answer to bad implementation and poor engineering practices when one is to continue to follow them.
I'd delete the post entirely but I'd rather give credit to the few that tried to provide some insight. Thanks again.

JIRA 4.1.1 disable user notification

We are running JIRA 4.1.1 and had an employee who moved elsewhere in the company. We still need his issues in JIRA so we can't completely removed him. Is there anyway to make it so he won't still receive emails/notifications?
I need a solution other than changing the email to an unused or invalid email address, because this will start eating up log space in JIRA
Thanks.
If he moved to another role, his tasks and responsibilities should have been taken over by someone else.
Make a bulk edit and assign that new user to the given issues.
With bulk edit, you can change reporter also.

Online users in Ruby on Rails

What is the simplest way how to check if user is online and display list of online users?
The only way I can think of is some periodic polling server to update last action timestamp, and when last timestamp is more than xx ago, user is considered to be offline. But it doesn't seem like too eficient solution.
Authlogic can do this by default, and is a great authentication system that is very powerful. I would suggest migrating your current authentication system over to it (maybe a days worth of work, depending how customized your system is).
If you can't (or simply don't want to) move your application over to Authlogic, you can check out the source code at the link above, as well as an example project here.
You could potentially check the session time, if you use database session store. When the updated_at extends past a certain time, assume the user is no longer active. This could be problematic as well, however.
Being honest, it's a somewhat difficult scenario to tell the active number of users without some form of periodic server polling. Your thought is not a bad one.
We can list the online users using active record session store, please see this github app https://github.com/mohanraj-ramanujam/online-users
