I created a UIButton with UIImageView and UILabel by the help of this question and answer by Tim and now I want change the image of the UIImageView on the button click event.
I tried [sender.imageView setImage:image] but it not working
you can:
1 - keep a reference to the UIImageView inside the UIButton on your viewController
2 - Subclass the UIButton and add the UIImageView yourself.
3 - When adding the UIImageView, add a tag into it (view.tag) and when getting the view from the sender, you can just
UIView *view = (UIView *)sender;
UIImageView *imageView = [view viewWithTag:123];
//do what you must with the imageView.
The tag can be any number.
Edit
this is how you should set the tag on the UIImageView, and Not on the UIButton. I copied this code from Tim's answer from here:
// Create the button
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
// Now load the image and create the image view
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"yourImage.png"];
UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(/*frame*/)];
[imageView setImage:image];
// Create the label and set its text
UILabel *label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(/*frame*/)];
[label setText:#"Your title"];
// Set a tag on the UIImageView so you can get it later
imageView.tag = 123;
// Put it all together
[button addSubview:label];
[button addSubview:imageView];

Actually i want to place image and label on the toolbar as a UIBarButtonItem and provide a clickable effect to that Button.
So what i have done here is I have created one custom view and placed Image and Label on the same custom view and finally placed this custom view as UIBarButtonItem CustomView.
But when i set target and action for the same UIBarButtonItem, it is not calling the selector method.
The entire code is below.
Can anybody suggest me what's the mistake in my code ? and is there any other approach to achieve the same ????
Early suggestions would be much appreciated.
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
[self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:NO];
UIView *customView = [[UIView alloc]
initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,self.navigationController.toolbar.frame.size.width,self.navigationController.toolbar.frame.size.height)];
customView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:62.0/255.0 green:187.0/255.0 blue:150.0/255.0 alpha:1.0];
[self.navigationController.toolbar addSubview:customView];
UIImageView *imgView = [[UIImageView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(60,0,44,44)];
imgView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"documentImage.png"];
[customView addSubview:imgView];
UILabel *lbl = [[UILabel alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(104,0,145,44)];
lbl.text = #"Scan Document";
lbl.textAlignment = NSTextAlignmentLeft;
[customView addSubview:lbl];
UIBarButtonItem *bar = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc]initWithCustomView:customView];
bar.target = self;
bar.action = #selector(scanDocument);
self.toolbarItems = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:bar, nil];
}
If you want to create button right hand side here is the code. i have already implemented it and working fine.
//Button Right side
UIImage *imgFavRest = [UIImage imageNamed:#"documentImage.png"];
UIButton *cart = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[cart setImage:imgFavRest forState:UIControlStateNormal];
cart.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, imgFavRest.size.width, imgFavRest.size.height);
[cart addTarget:self action:#selector(showCart) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem *rightBtn = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:cart];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = rightBtn;
Then use method like this . that's all
-(void)cartItemCount{
// Method
}
float textwidth = 50; // according to your text
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"logout"];
UIButton *btn = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
btn.bounds = CGRectMake( 10, 0, image.size.width+textwidth, image.size.height );
[btn addTarget:self action:#selector(scanDocument) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[btn setImage:image forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[btn setTitle:#"test" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[btn setTitleEdgeInsets:UIEdgeInsetsMake(0.0, 5.0, 0.0, 0.0)];
//Adjust the coordinates and size of your button as your requirement.This is a sample code to guide you.
//PS:Take a UIButton in the nib file>Make it a custom button>Connect the IBOutlet to your custom button in the nib file.Thats it.
UIBarButtonItem *rightButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:btn];
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = rightButton;
I see very complicated answers, all of them using code. However, if you are using Interface Builder, there is a very easy way to do this:
Select the button and set a title and an image. Note that if you set
the background instead of the image then the image will be resized if
it is smaller than the button.IB basic image and title
Set the position of both items by changing the edge and insets. You
could even control the alignment of both in the Control section.
IB position set IB Control set
You could even use the same approach by code, without creating UILabels and UIImages inside as other solutions proposed. Always Keep It Simple!
EDIT: Attached a small example having the 3 things set (title, image and background) with correct insets Button preview
Note:: UIBarButtonItem inherits from UIBarItem and NSObject so it doesn't know anything about touches. It would be nice if the docs mentioned that the action and target properties only apply if the custom view is a UIButton.
Currently I made a back Label for background and add UIButton on UILabel. It's showing in iOS 7 but in iOS 8 it's not showing . If I replace UILabel with UIView then It's working fine.
If I use UILabel in iOS 8 using this code For showing UILabel and subview UIButton
UILabel *downLabel = [[UILabel alloc]init];
downLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0, SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.92, SCREEN_WIDTH,SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.08 );
[downLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:(66/255.f) green:(67/255.f) blue:(63/255.f) alpha:1]];
downLabel.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
[self.view addSubview:downLabel];
UIButton *downbtnobj = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(SCREEN_WIDTH*0.68,downLabel.frame.size.height/10,SCREEN_WIDTH*0.30,downLabel.frame.size.height/1.25)];
UIImage *btndownImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"img 3.png"];
[downbtnobj setImage:btndownImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[downbtnobj addTarget:self action:#selector(bulletInButtonClicked) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[downLabel addSubview:downbtnobj];
Now You can see only UILabel is showing but button is not showing on UILabel.
One another this If I replace UILabel by UIView then It's showing perfect.
UIView *downLabel = [[UIView alloc]init];
downLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0, SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.92, SCREEN_WIDTH,SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.08 );
[downLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:(66/255.f) green:(67/255.f) blue:(63/255.f) alpha:1]];
downLabel.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
[self.view addSubview:downLabel];
UIButton *downbtnobj = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(SCREEN_WIDTH*0.68,downLabel.frame.size.height/10,SCREEN_WIDTH*0.30,downLabel.frame.size.height/1.25)];
UIImage *btndownImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"img 3.png"];
[downbtnobj setImage:btndownImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[downbtnobj addTarget:self action:#selector(bulletInButtonClicked) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[downLabel addSubview:downbtnobj];
In this code you can see I replace only UILabel by UIView. Now button is showing.
Can any help why subviews not showing on UILabel in iOS8
It's not clear what is different about labels in iOS 8, but if you call layoutIfNeeded on your label, that fixes the problem (it needs to be after you set the frame),
UILabel *downLabel = [[UILabel alloc]init];
downLabel.frame = CGRectMake(0, SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.92, SCREEN_WIDTH,SCREEN_HEIGHT*0.08 );
[downLabel layoutIfNeeded];
[downLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:(66/255.f) green:(67/255.f) blue:(63/255.f) alpha:1]];
downLabel.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
[self.view addSubview:downLabel];
After Edit:
I also found out that if you set the text (any time after you create the label), then the button appears.
Very Simple way you need set clipsToBounds on your UILabel
downLabel.clipsToBounds = YES;
I have a UIButton and the button background is set to an image. Added
an image view on the top right corner of the button and I set it
to different image when the button is clicked to show the selection.
When I try to automate this using instruments. I don’t see any subviews
(image views) in the UIAutomator.logElementTree()method does not show
any image views.
How to identify the image views added as subview in the UIButton?
Here is the code.
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.frame = CGRectMake(40, 40, 100, 100);
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(didTapButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#“testImage.png”] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
UIImageView *imageview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image];
imageview.frame = CGRectMake(70,30,20,20);
[button addSubview:imageview];
You have to set the accessibilityEnabled & accessibilityLabel.
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.frame = CGRectMake(40, 40, 100, 100);
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(didTapButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.accessibilityEnabled = YES;
button.accessibilityLabel =#"My Button";
[button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#“testImage.png”] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
UIImageView *imageview = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image];
imageview.accessibilityEnabled = YES;
imageview.accessibilityLabel = #"My Image";
imageview.frame = CGRectMake(70,30,20,20);
[button addSubview:imageview];
Refer this tutorial
Sweet Angel's answer is enough if you have a single UIImageView subview. However, I would suggest using tags to identify subviews.
imageView.tag = 1346;//Any arbitrary number (I am unsure if there are any limitations to the values you can use, but all 4 digit numbers work fine for me).
Then to get the imageView:
UIImageView* imageView = (UIImageView*)[button viewWithTag:1346];
That's it.
If you want to identify imageview on button taped, try following code :
- (IBAction)didTapButton:(UIButton *)sender
{
for (id view in sender.subviews)
{
if ([view isKindOfClass:[UIImageView class]])
{
NSLog(#"Image view captured.....");
}
}
}
I'm trying to add a button to a UIImageView with a transparent background - the button is shown ok but is not responding. (takePictureClicked is not called)
My code:
cameraController = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init];
cameraController.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera;
cameraController.delegate = self;
cameraController.allowsEditing=YES;
cameraController.showsCameraControls = NO;
cameraController.navigationBarHidden = YES;
cameraController.toolbarHidden = YES;
// overlay on top of camera lens view
UIImageView *cameraOverlayView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"camera_overlay.png"]];
cameraOverlayView.alpha = 0.0f;
//Take picture button
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
UIImage *btnImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"714-camera.png"];
[button setImage:btnImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(takePictureClicked) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.frame = CGRectMake(cameraOverlayView.center.x-16,cameraOverlayView.frame.size.height,32,32);
[cameraOverlayView addSubview:button];
[cameraOverlayView setUserInteractionEnabled:YES];
[cameraOverlayView bringSubviewToFront:button];
cameraController.cameraOverlayView = cameraOverlayView;
Normally you create a UIView where you can add different ui elements like UIButton or UIImageView. An UIImageView is just for UIImages and not for adding any other stuff on it. Create another UIView which will hold all the elements in it.
Like this post describes, even Interface Builder doesn't allow you to add a UIButton to an UIImageView.
You have to able the user interaction:
[cameraOverlayView setUserInteractionEnabled:YES];
You have also the checkbox in Interface Builder if you are using it.
This is needed because for default, the UIImageView has the user interaction disabled.
Have you tried setting userInteractionEnabled to the UIImageView?
try with:
cameraOverlayView.userInteractionEnabled = YES;
I have a label (many labels in fact) now I want an image in the background of my label (same image) so that text writtenin my label is shown to user. How to do it programmatically?
The simplest way would just be to simply layer a UIImageView behind the UILabel. If you wanted to make it more robust you could make a UILabel subclass that exposes a method or property to set the image background and it would add the image to itself.
CGPoint labelPos = CGPointMake(123, 234);
UIImage *theImage = [UIImage imageNamed:#"button_bg.png"];
UIImageView *theImageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:theImage];
theImageView.frame = CGRectMake(labelPos.x, labelPos.y, theImage.size.width, theImage.size.height);
UILabel *theLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(labelPos.x, labelPos.y, 100, 50)];
theLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
// ...label config...
[self.view addSubview:theImageView];
[self.view addSubview:theLabel];
[theImageView release];
[theLabel release];
