I am trying to make a video for App Preview in Apple App Store.
I created video using QuickTime Player, making a screencast of simulator.
After doing this i imported this video to iMovie and performed some changes.
I now want to export this video for App Store, but iMovie doesn't offer the resolution of 640x1136 for shared video as a file.
I exported in highest resolution and imported in QuickTime Player again. QuickTime Player has option to export video for iPhone 5, iPAd 2 etc. So i tried that, but the resolution stays the same only file format has changed.
How can i create 640x1136 resolution video that is created in iMovie or are there some alternatives?
SOLUTION:
Thanks, i ended with camtasia. I exported HD imovie video file to camtasia and cropped the video to desired resolution. Export worked!
One more option:

If your original video is the wrong dimensions for the app store - here is a trick using just iMovie and Quicktime to get the right dimensions.
Use QuickTime to record a short clip from the size of the device you need
Use iMovie and insert that clip into a new "App Preview" project
Add your actual video after the short clip
Now, any clips that you export will be in the right dimensions.
If you need to hide your short clip, you can shorten it to 0.1 seconds. Put a title over it and delete the text. Now your video starts with 0.1 seconds of a black screen.
NOTE: #Spoek's comment below is worth noting - adding an image of the right dimensions works too and creates a freeze frame. #SpaceMonkeys comment below as well - you can delete the image after adding it.
1) Download Squared - MPEG Streamclip: http://www.squared5.com
2) Then open your video file with it.
3) Click "File" > "Export to Quicktime"
4) Set your desired resolution
5) Export it
6) Then double click the exported file and Quicktime will go through a "converting" process. This step is very important. If you don't have Quicktime convert it, the upload will fail in iTunes connect. It will save it as a new file called "YourFile - Converted" (It took me a whole day to realize this!)
7) Upload the converted file to iTunes connect!
That should work! Let me know how it goes.
All you need to do is open iMovie > File > New App Preview.
When you finish editing, click on the share button on the upper right and there's an option "App Preview". It will give you the right resolution if you record the screen with your iOS devices.
The solution that #Praxiteles gives is the easiest by far, I just used images instead of video as #Spoek's mentioned.
I just made black images for each resolution needed in GIMP and dropped them at the beginning and made them .01 seconds.
So I only had to make two videos (iPhone & iPad) and just copied the elements from one iMovie project to the next. This is instead of making separate videos for iPhone 5,iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, & iPad.
This saved me a ton of work.
Thanks guys!
Don't forget the iPad 3rd Generation has an on-screen 'Home' button. You'll need another preview for it, even though the resolution is the same as the 2nd generation. If you've used 'safe areas' in your screen designs to avoid the button, your app may appear differently on the two devices. Apple's latest spec does suggest they're not accepting one as an alternative for the other. See:

Answer 2020
For App Preview Resolutions
Pls check apple's official docs here, it is very clear what size you need to have for your videos
I spent a lot of time to find this...

I finish all the development of my app and I am trying to update the screen shots as they require.
I take the screen shot in simulator by using command + s.
Every time I choose the files to upload, and the iTunes Connect says,
The dimensions of one or more screenshots are wrong. Learn More.
As you can see in the photo,
How to resolve this? Thanks in advance.
You said you are using the simulator to take screenshots. As other people have mentioned you need to use the iPhone 6 Plus simulator to do this.
Also make sure the scale is set to 100%. You can do this pressing ⌘+1 or go to Window > Scale > 100%.
The scale of the simulator affects the size of the screenshot.
Try using an iPhone 6 Plus to take your screenshots. The sizes are there, if you check the "Learn More".
Make sure to upload the same and exact size of image for which you are uploading.
And make sure you are uploading the screen shot in there respective section.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I'm unable to drag and drop screenshots (which as 100% the right size) into the new iTunes Connect media uploaded - whether it's on the main app page or in the Media Manager.
It just says that it's already using the 5.5-inch shots (of which there are none) and won't give me the ability to upload.
Interestingly, if I uncheck one of the smaller sizes I can drag screenshots to those just fine.
Screenshot of the issue:-
When I update the version of my App, also encountered the same situation. After trying various methods, the solution is found.
upload a screenshot of the non-primary language,
change the primary language,
modify the non-primary language screenshot,
change back the primary language.
Yeah Succeed!!!
There seems to be a bug in iTunes Connect that causes the 5.5 inch iPhone (and 12.9 inch iPad) screenshot upload to act identically to the smaller sizes in that it's disabled unless you choose to use a separate screenshot for that size. Except that the checkbox that allows you to do that is hidden in the largest device size in the group (iPhone/iPad). The bug seems to affect some combinations of localizations.
Right now you can play around with the languages as suggested in Bo Lin's answer, file a bug report to Apple, try to enable the screenshot upload if you're skilled at Angular.js (and I'm not sure if it's actually even possible), or just wait.
You only have to upload 5.5 screen sizes and 12.9 sizes screen shots
(Portrait)
5.5 screenshot size : 1242 × 2208
12.9 screenshot size : 2048 × 2732
Anyone familiar with the old iOS Simulator from ~ 2/3 years ago, it included the (black or white) metal Chrome around the simulator.
This allowed you to take screenshots with the Chrome around it, which made for nice looking app store demo screenshots.
Is there an automatic way to do this, or a service that allows you to upload your screens and does it automatically? -- Otherwise I would have to resort to taking a screenshot, then adding the Chrome around it using something like Teehan & Lax's iPhone GUI PSD -- which is a lot of manual work.
Check out this link : https://developer.apple.com/app-store/marketing/guidelines/#images. In the second part of that passage there are some links to download different chromes image.
I did it for http://mobilito.net/: use a picture of an iPhone as a background image an put your screenshot as an image on top of it. You just have to get the right dimension for the image to fit the screen on your iPhone picture.
Felix Krause has an excellent command line tool for this, go take a look.
I am trying to upload new screenshots to my game's page on iTunes Connect, but when I do that, I get an error that doesn't have anything to do with reality and/or common sense. Basically, I upload a bunch of iPhone screenshots with correct resolutions, sizes, etc. and get an error saying that I didn't. I am beginning te feel like I am doing something wrong, even though I am pretty sure I am not.
The error goes like this: "Your binary indicates support for iPhone/iPod touch. You must provide an iPhone/iPod touch screenshot." Again, as you can see on the screenshot below, I have indeed uploaded those screenshots. The binary is correct and is targeted at iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad.
I have tried both Chrome and Safari, all to no avail. I have left a ticket to Apple's support, but that can sometimes take days, and I don't have that kind of time, as the approval process is lengthy enough without this.

I know it's almost 1 year later, but for those still having this problem, just open the screenshot in preview and re-save it.
Worked for us!
Check that you are uploading high res (Retina) screenshots. As of February 2012, the screenshots you upload for iPhone/iPad must be in high resolution (suitable for Retina devices). Apple says:
The requirements for high-resolution images are 960 x 640, 960 x 600,
640 x 960, or 640 x 920 pixels. Images must be at least 72 dpi, in the
RGB color space, and the file must be .jpeg, .jpg, .tif, .tiff, or
.png.
I had to explicitly add the extension in finder first. Example 1.png/1.jpg instead of 1
This solved my problem ..
Quotes from apple developer forms :
Sorry to hear this is happening. This message means there are screenshot uploads that were started but never finished. Normally if an upload fails, App Store Connect will report an error and delete the unfinished screenshot for you. But it sounds like in this case a failed screenshot did not get deleted successfully.
You can delete these yourself manually: Go to your app version page
where you see your screenshots.
Click “View All Sizes in Media Manager”. This should take you to a
page with all available display types and sizes.
Click the “>” icon by each display size to expand every section.
Unfinished screenshots show as a grey placeholder icon instead of an
actual screenshot. Normally these tell you someone else on your team
is in the process of uploading a screenshot. But if that’s not the
case, then it means a screenshot upload failed, and did not get
cleaned up automatically. If you see any of these: Hover your mouse
pointer over the screenshot. A red (-) icon will appear over the
top-left corner.
Click the (-) icon to delete the placeholder.
If you have more than one localization for your app, use the locale
picker in the top-right corner of this page to check each
localization.
Hope this helps!
I'm using PhoneGap to make an iPhone app that contains video. Usually, it works great: the video sits in an HTML5 video tag and it shows the iOS play button and then plays full screen.
But, sometimes the play button has a line through it and the user can't play the video.
I can't seen to figure out exactly what causes this, as it is sporadic and doesn't seem to be connected to any other issues.
Any help on making this more reliable would be appreciated. The code is a very simple video tag with src, poster, width and height attributes.
Thanks in advance.
I was able to fix this by exporting video from Quicktime as "iPod touch & iPhone 3GS" instead of "iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV." Looks like the HTML5 video tag on iPhone's require a lower resolution to play.
