TableView does not display data from parse.com - ios

Hi everyone beginner here.
I have a table view inside the ViewController. Content of the cell will be taken from parse.com. (A String) I already put necessary frameworks and set up a class in parse with a column and some rows.
I can tap the cells in simulator and when i add or delete new rows in parse the cells i can tap also changes.
But somehow the table turns empty, no label is displayed. I have no errors or issues.
Here is the code:
ViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import <Parse/Parse.h>
#import "TableCell.h"
#interface ViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate> {
NSArray *Event;
}
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITableView *newsTable;
#end
ViewController.m
#import "ViewController.h"
#import "TableCell.h"
#interface ViewController ()
#end
#implementation ViewController
#synthesize newsTable;
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib.
[self performSelector: #selector(retreiveFromParse)];
}
- (void) retreiveFromParse {
PFQuery *retrieveEvents = [PFQuery queryWithClassName:#"News"];
[retrieveEvents findObjectsInBackgroundWithBlock:^(NSArray *objects, NSError *error) {
if (!error) {
Event = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray:objects];
}
[newsTable reloadData];
}];
}
//*********************Setup table of folder names ************************
//get number of sections in tableview
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
// Return the number of sections.
return 1;
}
//get number of rows by counting number of folders
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
return Event.count;
}
//setup cells in tableView
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
//setup cell
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"EventCell";
TableCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
PFObject *tempObject = [Event objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.TitleLabel.text = [tempObject objectForKey:#"TitleLabel"];
return cell;
}
//user selects folder to add tag to
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
NSLog(#"cell tapped");
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning
{
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
#end

Few corrections -
First - it will be more appropriate to use a #property for the event array.
Second - it will be more appropriate to use Lowercased property name.
Your Array is not retained (it is nil), this is why you see nothing.
So, you should :
Add this to your interface -
#property (strong, nonatomic) NSArray *events;
Add this to your viewDidLoad, before you call retreiveFromParse
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.events = [NSArray array];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib.
[self performSelector: #selector(retreiveFromParse)];
}
That should work.
BTW
Parse has a TableViewController class that can simplify your work, look here -
Parse PFQueryTableViewController

how to set value to textField through a delegate

i have two view controllers, view controller and tableViewController.
ViewController contains a textField and a button. when the button in viewController is clicked, then TableViewController should start.
in TableViewController, there is a list contains 5 rows, each row contains a string value.
What I am trying to do is, hen the user chooses any row in the list in TableViewController, then ViewController scene should start and the value that the user chose should be displayed in the textfield in ViewController.
to achieve this task, I created a protocol in TableViewController with a required method called valueChoosen: (NSString *) value, and this method is implemented in ViewController, and then I set the value to the textField but, at run time the TextField is empty.
please have look at the code below, and let me know why the value passed to the required method of the protocol can not be set to the textfield, what I am doing wrong;
TableViewController:
#import "TableViewController.h"
#interface TableViewController ()
#property NSArray *tableData;
#end
#implementation TableViewController
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
self.tableData = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:#"Android",
#"iOS",
#"swift",
#"objective-c",
#"openCV",nil];
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
-(NSInteger) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView
numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
return [self.tableData count];
}
-(UITableViewCell *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView
cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *simpleTableIdentifier = #"SimpleTableItem";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView
dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc]
initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
}
cell.textLabel.text = [self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"images.jpg"];
return cell;
}
-(void) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:
(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
NSLog(#"%#", [self.tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]);
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"unwindSegue" sender:NULL];
[self.delegate valueChoosen:[self.tableData
objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]];
}
#end
ViewController:
#import "ViewController.h"
#import "TableViewController.h"
#interface ViewController ()
#property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITextField
*textFieldDepartment;
#property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton
*buttonSelectFromTableView;
#end
#implementation ViewController
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a
nib.
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
-(void) prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(id)sender
{
if ([segue.identifier isEqualToString:#"segueToTableView"]) {
//code
TableViewController *table = segue.destinationViewController;
table.delegate = self;
}
}
-(void) valueChoosen: (NSString *) value {
[_textFieldDepartment setText:value];
NSLog(#"value: %#", value);
}
#end
It maybe because you are setting the textfield text in the viewController which is not being displayed. Try assigning the value to a variable using the delegate function and call the delegate function before performing the unwind segue. And on the viewController try setting the textfield text as the variable whose value was set through delegate method from the viewWillAppear method.
Step 1:
create the unwind action in the viewcontroller you want to unwind it.in your case it is ViewController
- (IBAction)unwindFromModalController:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue{}
Step 2:
Connect to the unwind Action
Control drag from tableviewcell to the Exit sign.
Select the Action you specified.
Add the Identifier to unwind segue.
Step3
Trigger the segue
in your TableViewController.m
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
self.selectedText = self.tableData[indexPath.row];
[self performSegueWithIdentifier:#"unwindSegue" sender:self];}
Step 4:
Pass Data
Unwind Action
- (IBAction)unwindFromModalController:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue{
if ([segue.sourceViewController isKindOfClass:[TableViewController class]]) {
TableViewController *vc = segue.sourceViewController;
if (vc.selectedText) {
[_textFieldDepartment setText:vc.selectedText];}
}
}

UISearch Controller Showing data not part of the filtered array

My Question is this. Why is the filtered table view showing rooms, after I start typing in the search bar that are not present when printing the filtered array to the console. I thought it might be that the table view cells are being reused so set the cell label text to nil to ensure the text gets reset in tableviewcellforindex: method , all to no avail. Can anyone help?
This is my Table View Controller that acts as the data source and delegate for for both my standard tableview and filtered tableview
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "Rooms.h"
#interface RoomsTableViewController : UITableViewController
<UISearchControllerDelegate,UISearchResultsUpdating,UISearchBarDelegate,UITableViewDelegate>
#property (strong,nonatomic) NSMutableArray *roomList;
#property (strong,nonatomic) NSMutableArray *orderedRoomList;
#property (strong,nonatomic) NSMutableArray *filteredRooms;
#property (strong,nonatomic) UITableViewController *searchResultsController;
#property (strong,nonatomic) UISearchController *searchController;
#end
#import "RoomsTableViewController.h"
#interface RoomsTableViewController ()
#property BOOL searchControllerWasActive;
#property BOOL searchControllerSearchFieldWasFirstResponder;
#end
The implementation file
#implementation RoomsTableViewController
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
//sort the room list into filetred by alpha numeric A10 before C1 example this will eventually be done on the server
NSSortDescriptor *sort = [NSSortDescriptor sortDescriptorWithKey:#"name" ascending:YES comparator:^NSComparisonResult(id obj1, id obj2) {
return [(NSString *)obj1 compare:(NSString *)obj2 options:NSNumericSearch];
}];
self.orderedRoomList = (NSMutableArray*)[self.roomList sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:sort]];
self.searchResultsController= [[UITableViewController alloc]initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain];
self.searchController = [[UISearchController alloc]initWithSearchResultsController:self.searchResultsController];
self.searchController.searchResultsUpdater=self;
[self.searchController.searchBar sizeToFit];
self.tableView.tableHeaderView=self.searchController.searchBar;
//set up the data source and delegate of this new table view to be this (roomsTableviewcontroller) view controller
self.searchResultsController.tableView.delegate=self;
self.searchResultsController.tableView.dataSource=self;
self.searchController.delegate=self;
self.searchController.dimsBackgroundDuringPresentation=NO;
self.searchController.searchBar.delegate=self;
self.definesPresentationContext=YES;
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
-(void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated
{
[super viewDidAppear:animated];
//restore the search controllers active state
if (self.searchControllerWasActive) {
self.searchController.active = self.searchControllerWasActive;
_searchControllerWasActive=NO;
if (self.searchControllerSearchFieldWasFirstResponder) {
[self.searchController.searchBar becomeFirstResponder];
_searchControllerSearchFieldWasFirstResponder=NO;
}
}
}
-(void)searchBarBookmarkButtonClicked:(UISearchBar *)searchBar
{
[searchBar resignFirstResponder];
}
#pragma mark - UISearchControllerDelegate
- (void)willPresentSearchController:(UISearchController *)searchController {
// do something before the search controller is presented
self.navigationController.navigationBar.translucent = YES;
}
-(void)willDismissSearchController:(UISearchController *)searchController
{
self.navigationController.navigationBar.translucent = NO;
}
#pragma mark - Table view data source
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
if (tableView==self.tableView) {
return [self.orderedRoomList count];
}else{
return [self.filteredRooms count];
}
}
-(CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
return 71;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *cellReuseIdentifier = #"cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellReuseIdentifier];
if (cell==nil) {
cell= [[UITableViewCell alloc]initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:cellReuseIdentifier];
}
Rooms *room = (tableView==self.tableView)? [self.orderedRoomList objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]: [self.filteredRooms objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text=nil;
NSString *labelString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%# %#",room.name,room.roomDescription];
cell.textLabel.text=labelString;
return cell;
}
Below is a photo of the table view in the simulator and a screen print of the check to see if the filtered array has indeed worked correctly as it has. You can see that C3 is not listed as being part of the filtered array but it still appears on screen.

Array not being passed from tableview to view controller through Delegate

I am trying to copy the array from tableview controller to view controller. I have checked the code multiple times and it seems to be okay.
//Delegate class
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#protocol Category <NSObject>
#required
-(void) delegateMethodForCategory : (NSMutableArray *) arrayOfCategory;
#end
#interface Categories : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate,UITableViewDataSource>
#property (nonatomic) id<Category> delegate;
#property (nonatomic,strong) NSArray *sports;
#property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITableView *tableview;
#property (nonatomic,strong) NSMutableArray *selectedIndexes;
#end
//Delegate methods
#import "Categories.h"
#interface Categories ()
{
NSMutableArray *array ;
}
#end
#implementation Categories
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
_sports= [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: #"Baseball", #"Soccer", #"Hockey",
#"Other",nil];
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
#pragma mark - Table view data source
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
// Return the number of sections.
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
// Return the number of rows in the section.
return _sports.count;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"cell" forIndexPath:indexPath];
array = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init];
// Configure the cell...
cell.textLabel.text=[self.sports objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
return cell;
}
-(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
UITableViewCell *selectedCell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
NSString *cellText = selectedCell.textLabel.text;
if([tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType==UITableViewCellAccessoryNone)
{ [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType=UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark;
[array addObject:cellText];
}else if([tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType==UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark){
[tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath].accessoryType=UITableViewCellAccessoryNone;
[array removeObject:cellText];
}
}
- (IBAction)doneButton:(id)sender {
[self.delegate delegateMethodForCategory:array];
[self dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:nil];
}
#end
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "Categories.h"
#interface ActivityCreator : UIViewController <UIPopoverPresentationControllerDelegate, Category>
#property (nonatomic) Categories *requestClass;
#property (nonatomic,strong) NSMutableArray *arrayOfSports;
#end
//This class implements delegate
import "ActivityCreator.h"
#interface ActivityCreator ()
#end
#implementation ActivityCreator
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
[self settingUp];
// Do any additional setup after loading the view.
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
-(UIModalPresentationStyle)adaptivePresentationStyleForPresentationController:(UIPresentationController *)controller{
return UIModalPresentationNone;
}
-(void)settingUp{
_requestClass = [[Categories alloc]init];
self.requestClass.delegate = self;
}
#pragma mark - Navigation
// In a storyboard-based application, you will often want to do a little preparation before navigation
- (void)prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(id)sender {
if([segue.identifier isEqualToString:#"hubabuba"]){
Categories *pop = (Categories *)segue.destinationViewController;
pop.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationPopover;
pop.popoverPresentationController.delegate = self;
}
}
-(void) delegateMethodForCategory : (NSMutableArray *) arrayOfCategory {
_arrayOfSports = arrayOfCategory;
NSLog(#"%#",_arrayOfSports);
}
Any guidance where I am doing wrong will be of great help. Have been stuck on this for a while.
The delegate method is not being called at all.
Thanks
Set the delegate of Categories class in prepareForSegue method instead of setting in settingUp method.
Write
pop.delegate = self;
In prepareForSegue method.

Text in my array is not ending up in my table view cell

I cannot seem to find my error can anyone help me? When I attempt to run test the application it works but when I click on the Calendar segue it shows me a blank uitableview list. I want it to show me the "event" in the text
My NSLOG details about the array:
2014-08-08 17:38:28.391 nths[2899:607] array contents: (
" {\n Date = \"9/14/14\";\n Information = \"Mrs. Ford's Room\";\n event = Meeting;\n}",
" {\n Date = \"9/14/19\";\n Information = \"ford room\";\n event = \"lunch at bravos\";\n}"

Here are is all of the code that I think would affect this.

Using a delegate to transfer data

I have a view controller with a static cell named 'Make' I have two controllers one called "AddCarTableViewController" and "MakeTableViewController" when you click on the static cell named 'Make' it presents the make table view controller where you can select the make, then pops the view controller and am trying to store the selected value in the detailTextLabel of the static cell. here is my code for all the controllers.
The problem I'm having is once I select the make everything happens as it should I even log the selected item and it saves it after popping the view controller, but I can't figure out how to implement selected item into the detailTextLabel. Any help will be much appreciated!
"MakeTableViewController.h"
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "AddCarTableViewController.h"
#protocol CarMakeDelegate <NSObject>
- (void)updateCarMake:(NSString *)updateMake;
#end
#interface MakeTableViewController : UITableViewController
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *carMakes;
#property (nonatomic, weak) id <CarMakeDelegate> delegate;
#end
MakeTableViewController.m
#import "MakeTableViewController.h"
#interface MakeTableViewController ()
#end
#implementation MakeTableViewController {
NSIndexPath *oldIndexPath;
}
- (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle)style
{
self = [super initWithStyle:style];
if (self) {
// Custom initialization
}
return self;
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.carMakes = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:#"Acura", #"Aston Martin", nil];
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning
{
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Dispose of any resources that can be recreated.
}
#pragma mark - Table view data source
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
// Return the number of sections.
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
// Return the number of rows in the section.
return [self.carMakes count];
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
}
cell.textLabel.text = [self.carMakes objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
return cell;
}
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
[tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:NO];
oldIndexPath = indexPath;
NSString *addMake = self.carMakes[indexPath.row];
[self.delegate updateCarMake:addMake];
NSLog(#"%#", addMake );
[[self navigationController] popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
#end
AddCarTableViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "MakeTableViewController.h"
#interface AddCarTableViewController : UITableViewController
#property (strong, nonatomic) NSString *makeName;
#property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITableViewCell *makeCell;
#end
AddCarTableViewController.m
#import "AddCarTableViewController.h"
#interface AddCarTableViewController ()
#end
#implementation AddCarTableViewController
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
}
#pragma mark - Table view data source
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
// Return the number of sections.
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
// Return the number of rows in the section.
return 4;
}
-(void)updateCarMake:(NSString *)updateMake {
self.makeCell.detailTextLabel.text = updateMake;
}
#end
You don't need to use delegate in this case. Just update the underlying data model. and call
[tableview reloadData];
When the makeViewController is popped.
In the AddCarVC's cellForRowAtIndex, add another line to check if current indexPath corresponds to Make cell and if it does update the detailLabel text.
