Minimum MacOS Version Required to Compile iOS Apps - ios

We wish to compile iOS (iPhone & iPad) apps and we want to know if you need to have a minimum version of MacOS to compile/create the apps? We currently have a Mac OS X 10.6.8, 1GB RAM, 32 Bit.
If we want to compile apps for iOS 7 do we need the latest (more recent than what we have) OS?
Edit: Does the fact our Mac machine is 32bit affect our ability to compile iOS apps (old apps and/or more recent apps - iOS 5 and up)?

If we want to compile apps for iOS 7 do we need the latest (more recent than what we have) OS?
Compiling apps against the iOS 7 SDK requires Xcode 5. Xcode 5 requires 10.8.4 or later. You have provided insufficient information about your Mac to determine if your Mac can run OS X 10.8. Try to install Mavericks here, or if that doesn't work see the Mountain Lion requirements and buy it here.

iOS7 SDK requires XCode 5 (min requirement 10.8.4)
OSX 10.6.8 will not run anything beyond XCode 4.2

OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard) is TOO OLD to publish an iphone app.
You'll need a new mac with OS X 10.8 (mountain lion). If the hardware in your mac won't support an upgrade to more recent OS X versions, don't waste your time. Apple have not maintained backward compatibility: the minimum versions of Xcode or Application Launcher needed to meet the app store requirements won't run on 10.6.8.
Specifically:
- Beginning on February 1, 2015 new iOS apps submitted to the App Store must include 64-bit support and be built with the iOS 8 SDK
You can develop, test and simulate with your old mac, but ultimately to build and publish your app you'll need a newer Mac.

2022 update
Now they require SDK 15, included in XCode 13 or later (https://xcodereleases.com).
This release requires macOS Big Sur 11.3 which can officially work on macs from 2013 and later: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211238
In fact you can install it on an older mac with a patch, such as: https://github.com/dortania/Opencore-Legacy-Patcher

2011 Mac with flutter development

I am looking at purchasing a Mac mini to help with development of a flutter application. The newest versions are quite expensive and after looking on ebay the cheaper versions are the 2011 models.
The hardware is primarily 2.3 GHz i5, 8gb ram and SSD which seems fine but the OS version varies from mountain lion to High Sierra. I assume older versions can be updated?
I can't find anywhere that specifies minimum OS versions for flutter. Does anyone know whether a 2011 Mac mini with this spec would be appropriate for app development. I would like to also use the IOS emulator with newer apple device/phone models and iOS versions.
Sorry I have little experience with Mac os. Thanks a lot
(I may also want to try swift coding in xcode)
Can I update Mac OS to newer version?
Yes.
What are the minimum requirements for flutter development using Mac machine?
The latest stable version of flutter is v1.12.13+hotfix.8
This version of flutter requires a minimum Xcode version of 11.0.0. See the screen shot below.
The Xcode 11 requires a Mac running macOS 10.14.3 (macOS Mojave) or later. See more details here.
Xcode 11 includes SDKs for iOS 13, iPadOS 13, watchOS 6, macOS 10.15, tvOS 13 and Swift 5.1. Xcode 11 supports running multiple concurrent versions of the Xcode app and of any associated tools such as Simulator.
You can find more details from here.

Delphi XE7 iOs Developing

I'm trying to set up the environment for installing an iOS App developed by Delphi XE7. The thing is my Mac OS X is the version 10.6.8 and the higgest Xcode I can install is the 3.2. Is it possible to work with such scenario?
The documentation answers your question
Requirements for Developing iOS Applications
PC running Windows connected to an Intel-based Mac, or a Mac running Windows in a VM, with 2 GB RAM or more.
The Mac must run OS X 10.9 or 10.8, with the latest version of Xcode that supports iOS 7 or iOS 8.
An Apple Developer account is required to deploy iOS apps to physical devices.
Platform Assistant server (paserver) installed on the Mac:
emphasis mine.

Is it necessary to use beta releases of Mac OS X as a development environment for beta releases of iOS?

Based on historical or current practice, is it necessary (or desired) to use beta versions of Mac OS X as a development environment for beta releases of iOS?
In the case of XCode, are the features/functionality that would be available only if the developer was using a pre-release version of Mac OS X? Are beta iOS SDKs always available to the current and supported Apple release of Mac OS X?
No, as long as you can run the beta version of Xcode it's fine. The beta versions of Xcode that Apple distributes to run iOS betas with always work with the current (non-beta) version of OS X.
The beta versions of OS X are only needed to test applications that will run on those versions of OS X, they have nothing to do with iOS.

Can not test App on device with iOS 5.1.1?

I recently upgrade iPad to iOS 5.1.1. Organizer prompted "the Xcode can not find the software and image to the install this version."
"Could not support development."
The Xcode 4.2 supports up to SDK 5.0.
The Xcode 4.3.3 supports up to the SDK 5.1, but does not support SDK 5.1.1, Is that right?
So there is no way to test on 5.1.1 device, isn't it?
p.s.
I am working on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Xcode 4.2. According to this method I has copied "5.1 (9B176)" to the corresponding folder.
For testing on iOS 5.1 you need Mac OS 10.7 Lion and Xcode 4.3. iOS 5.1 support is only available with Xcode 4.3 so you cannot test on a 5.1 device using earlier versions.
SugarMEmE, just a thought, since u need to copy it manually, u need standalone iOS5.1.1sdk. I checked Xcodes4.2.x up to Xcode4.5, they do not have iOS5.1.1, just 5.1 and then 6.0. No intermediates. So if somebody has a Lion w Xcode4.2 or higher, that can download those intermediates automatically, you technically just could copy it from there.
Hei, just did it. You need to find a file iPad1,1_5.1.1_9B206_restore.ipsw say here: http://mytopfiles.com/other/file/iPad1,1_5-1-1_9B206_Restore/589434.htm
It was on my other Mac (that has Lion and Xcode 4.3) in Library\iTunes\iPad Software Updates\
I just copied it on my Mac (Snow Leopard w Xcode4.2) in the same Library\iTunes\iPad Software Updates.
Image immediately showed up in Xcode Organizer Library Software Images.
And right away I was able to build on my iPad1 with iOS5.1.1
Logically, if you need it for iPad2 you would look for iPad2,1_5.1.1_9B206_restore.ipsw http://mytopfiles.com/other/file/iPad2,1_5-1-1_9B206_Restore/589852.htm etc, I guess.
Regards,
B
PS after all, u do not need to pay for upgrade to Lion yet.
You can generally link to the DeviceSupport folder for a similar OS version.
I just did this for 5.1.1 and it worked:
sudo ln -s 5.1 /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/5.1.1

Xcode 4 installation:

I just got a Mac OS X 10.7 and was all set to install Xcode 4 and the iOS SDK onto it, but as it turns out, it will not let me do this because the installer reads this:
iPhone SDK requires MAC OS X 10.6.6 (To install iOS SDK you must quit the installer and upgrade).
What does the SDK mean I should upgrade, my Mac pro is a higher level, it's a 10.7 !!! Do they mean I should downgrade ??? (pun intended!)
Anybody with similar problems and have a way around this?
:(
Parijat Kalia!
Lion requires XCode 4.1 at minimum.
