I have three Jenkins projects (Maven jobs, to be exact) that have many available parameters. I've set up a way to automate running these weekly with a set of parameters using the Build Flow plugin so that I end up running a total of 12 builds. I also have a follow-up project that exists only to send an email containing some information about the builds that ran, including a link to all 12 of the artifacts.
My problem is figuring out a way to get the artifact names from all 12 jobs. I think the best way to do that is using the REST API, but I could use some help with that.
I am using the Editable Email Notification plugin, and I have access to the job name and build number. I probably just need a script to grab the artifact name from each job.
Does anyone have experience with this?
I haven't tried the exact case you want, but you should be able to use the depth and tree parameters of the REST API to narrow down the data you need. Start with the API URL for one of the builds, which will be of the form
http://jenkins/job/jobname/buildnumber/api/json

I occasionally want to get notified when a particular jenkins job that is building finishes. Is there any way to do this?
Scripting it through the API would be fine. I already have the jenkins IRC bot that notifies me of many things, so if I could just dynamically modify the running job build, that would be enough to do what I want -- I'm just having a hard time finding how to accomplish that.
AFAIK, you cannot change a job's config while it's running.
Here is an idea: Use a post-build step to check for an external resource status (like a file containing an action by text) and running an action based on the content of the file.
The external file can be modified while the build is running, so when the post-build is executed, it will follow the logic defined based on the content of the file.

I am running jobs in Jenkins. I want to share the Jenkins job result in Jira. I have tried various plugins but failed to achieve my objective.

If you also want to use this feature, you need to supply a valid user id/password. If you need the comment only to be visible to a certain JIRA group, e.g. Software Development, enter the groupname.
Now you also need to configure jobs. I figured you might not always have write access to the JIRA (say you have a Jenkins build for one of the Apache commons project that you depend on), so that's why this is optional.
Is there a way to get the hudson job initiated user name.
Is it possible to get using script shell, py etc.
Lets assume I have the build # which was initiated. I know how to get the latest build info using api but would like to get a user details for a specific job.
Do you think, this will work for hudson? :)

That plugin will not work with Hudson, unless you download a very old version of the plugin. I'm not sure how many people are still using Hudson and haven't upgraded to Jenkins.
Anyway, when a user manually triggers a build, this is called a "user cause"; there are other types of cause, e.g. SCM trigger.
You can use the JSON or XML API to get the causes for a build, for example:
https://ci.jenkins-ci.org/job/remoting/lastSuccessfulBuild/api/xml?xpath=//action/cause/userId
In this case, this returns the username that caused the build to run.
Though note that there may be multiple causes for a build, and potentially other cause types that use the userId field.
This works in Jenkins, but it should also work in Hudson, but I haven't tested it.
I'd like to run several builds concurrently in Jenkins for the same job. I run at maximum 3 builds concurrently. I want each build to run with a parameter that must be unique from a pool for parameters. For instance, pool=[1, 2, 3]: The 1st build picks "1", 2nd picks "2" and the 3rd picks "3".
I must ensure that different builds can't pick the same parameter.
After building, the parameter is available again.
How can I do it?

At first, select the checkbox button named build-concurrently-if-neccesary to ensure the same job could build concurrently. you'd better read the help-html seriously before
The isolated environments for building different jobs make that data could not be shared each other in a simple way.
Here is a solution that trigger the buildWithParameters link by jenkins rest api to control the pool in the program procedure of your own.
add a string-parameter in job's config.
post the string parameter to http://$JENKINS_SERVER_URL/job/$JOB_NAME/buildWithParameters
Maybe it's the most convenient way if no available plugin found.
I found a plugin in github and asked the author to publish it. It works well and solves my problem.
Jenkins Parameter Pool Plugin
I need to generate a weekly report on our Jenkins build cluster. One of the reports is to display a list of jobs that have the longest build time.
The solution I can come up with is to parse the "Build history" page on each slave (also master) and for each build of a job, parse the build page and look for "Took x min x sec on slave-xx".
This feels quite cumbersome, does anyone know a better solution using Jenkins API or Groovy script console?

You can get the build data for your report through the Jenkins API. For a given job, you can
retrieve the list of builds with duration information using something like:
http://jenkins:8080/job/my-job/api/json?tree=builds[id,number,duration,timestamp,builtOn]
To see a list of all the API-available build data for a given job:
http://jenkins:8080/job/my-job/api/json?tree=builds[*]
Once you have a query that retrieves the job information that you need for
your report, it should be straightforward to loop over the jobs.
Most Jenkins pages have a link at the bottom to the REST API that describes a bit about accessing the API for that page, e.g. http://jenkins:8080/job/my-job/api.
