Folks,
I'd like to create a kml which would always display an icon in the top left corner of the GE view. In addition, clicking the icon should open a placemark balloon/webpage/smthg with some additional information.
I can think of two potential solutions: 1) a screen overlay with an embedded link and 2) a placemark with absolute screenXY coordinates. Unfortunately, I can not find a single example of either of these and that makes me wonder if this is doable at all?
Any help highly appreciated,
anssi

In the Apple Maps app there is a blue arrow pointing in the direction the phone is facing(marked on the attached screenshot).I can't find how to do the same in my app using MapKit.
I need the map to be facing north and the blue dot with an arrow, just like in the default mode in the apple Maps app.I know I can do this by manually drawing an arrow. But, since it is already implemented in the Maps app, is there a standard setting that allows to achieve this in MapKit?
Currently the only way to achieve this is to create it manually, as Apple does not have any exposed API for it yet.
I posted quite a detailed implementation answer on this post: https://stackoverflow.com/a/40808645/4769084
Basically you need to add your own 'blue arrow icon' to the mapView user location view, then track the device's 'heading' to rotate the 'blue arrow icon' appropriately.
Currently the markers on my Google Maps Map view appear to look like the first picture I uploaded, however I need to find a way to add a thumbnail in the center of the image similar to the second view, I am unsure of how to do this as the thumbnail is dynamic so I cannot set it to a specific image like I am doing by setting the marker.icon to the icons bubble image. Has anybody attempted anything like this before? The thumbnails are being retrieved from a Parse server so I cannot prepare this ahead of time with code.
I had a similar problem in a project a while back. What I did to solve it, was in the javascript I started by making all the markers set to be hidden initially. As I added each one I added an eventListener to the src of the icon image so that when it loaded I could switch the marker on with setAnimation("BOUNCE") to make it look intentional. That's the idea and it worked for me. Let me know if you run into any bumps.
I´m using MKMapView for displaying MKTileOverlays. The overlays are drawn by myself and i don't show any map data from Apple or Google. Do I need the "Legal" label on top of the map? I only use the MKMapView to display custom tiles and put some custom annotations on it. Do I really need the legal patch here? Will my app be rejected if I drop it?
The legal link is required by Apple and there is some possibility that your app will get rejected if you remove it by using private class i.e. (if you loop the subviews of the map for MKAttributedLabel and remove/hide it). Your case is a bit more challenging of their rules due to the usage of tiles, but on a previous project of mine, where I needed a small mapView and the link was appearing quite bad on that small area, I extended the bottom area of the map a bit so that link is obscured by the view in front of it. The app got published without a problem.
So yeah we're trying to display a pretty small version of the map and all the user interface elements were getting in the way.. and we realized a screenshot would probably be just fine, so just wondering if it's possible to generate a screenshot of a map position and just have it display as an image instead of an interactable map.
You can use Google Static Maps to show a non-interactive map without user interface controls (zooming buttons etc.)
As they return an image file it is easy to cache. Please note that Google does not allow caching of maps due to copyright reasons of the map owner, but probably caching is not necessary with the static map.
How to create blackberry map with two types of markers - first for search results, clickable, leading to detail screen and second just for current location (not clickable, visually different)
Thanks,
