I am a new user working with plone4. I have a page in view mode that displays links e.g. http://www.somelink.com. I need to find a way of making the displayed field as a clickable URL. Which field type or widget will I have to use?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
You should use text field, the default widget should work fine for you.
~ or ~
if you have very specific needs, you could use a string field and then customize your widget.

I am designing an application that needs to replace some text inside of a TextArea with an Image. For example, if I enter a phone Number that exists on the Native contacts list, I need to replace the text on the text Area with an Image and be able to add more phone Numbers (the attached image illustrates the procedure). This is the native messaging application, but I can't find an API to do this in Cascades.
Thanks for the help.
I believe what you are looking for is the FlowListLayout but would recommend you become familiar with how Cascades deals with simple lists first. The general premise, and how some form a list can help you, is that each element on the list is display an an object, or collection of objects depending on what type the element is. As elements change in type, in this example from the text entered by the user, to the contact found by searching for that text, the form of display can change.
I am creating an iphone application, where i am getting confuse. I need to show a control (displaying Online option) as i have mention in below screenshot. I have seen such type of controls in Android.
When user will press, it should display Offline and Online two options in one small pop up view. Selected option text will come on to the control field. How to implement or give me suggestion to show such type of field in iphone.
Thanks in Advance.
Check the answer here: Any pull down or drop down menu for iOS?
Personally I would make a text box with an image view to make it look like a drop down box. then on tap load a UIActionSheet for the user to select from.
I'm trying to make a login screen for Blackberry with input fields for username and password that look like the the editText field of android. Basically, there should be a well defined background and default prompt text in a different color when no text has been input. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a default field provided by blackberry. I'm currently using an EditField and a PasswordEditField with BorderFactory to provide the demarcation. Is anyone aware of such libraries or some other open source efforts by someone to do so? Please point me to any tutorial, etc too.
Thanks!
You will need to write your own custom field which extends EditField.
http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/11958/Create_a_custom_field_508117_11.jsp
My suggestions are:
Override the Field.paint() method to place the label inside the text box (rather than to the left of it which is the default behaviour). This is where your instruction to the user can go, ie the 'Username' or 'Password' text.
Override the Field.onFocus() method to remove the instruction from the text box. Conversely override the Field.onUnfocus() method to add it back in if the user moves to another text box without entering any text.
I have some textareas in my page. I converted all into niceeditor with the option provided. I will save the content of the niceditor into my database. While i am retrieving, i will get the html tagged data. I am showing the text in my page.
So to show the rich text of what i enter. I should make niceditor. So that i could show the rich text. And also it should be readonly.
Please guide me to make niceditor readonly or guide me to show the rich text without editing option through some way.
my textarea name is 'area3'.
thanks
Why not use div instead of textarea? Nicedit supports convert divs too , You can toggle nicedit on or off.
We would like to be able to customize the areas outside the form elements area itself, such that customers can have all their forms including the areas surrounding the form in their own style. For instance in the area on the top we would like to have a different color and we would like to replace the Orbeon logo by the logo of the customer. Also we would like to hide/remove/customize some buttons that appear below the form. For instance we don't need the buttons for PDF, Email and Close and we want to change the text in the Save button to Submit.
Is that possible? If so, how do we do that? Is there some instruction somewhere for this?
Yes, you can do all of this through properties:
You can change the color at the top by overriding the .fr-top rule defined in form-runner-orbeon.css. For more on how to override CSS, see: Default CSS.
You can replace or remove the default logo with the oxf.fr.default-logo.uri.*.* property. See Default logo.
You can choose which buttons are shown on the Form Runner "details" page by overriding the oxf.fr.detail.buttons.*.* property. See Buttons on the detail page.
You can change the label on a button by overriding resources. See Overriding resources.
I was faced with the problem to change the icon in the browser address and found the answer of Alessandro Vernet:
http://discuss.orbeon.com/page-address-bar-browser-icon-td4660752.html .
But this solution has the drawback that I had to change the orbeon-form-runner.jar, and this with every new orbeon forms release, what I wanted to avoid.
So the idea was to give my icons the same name as the orbeon icons and to load them in a corresponding directory of the resource directory.
So I named my icon orbeon-icon-16.ico and orbeon-icon-16.png and loaded the two files in orbeon/WEB-INF/resources/ops/images.
For Firefox this was OK, but IE continued to show the orbeon icon. Then I noticed that in orbeon-core.jar there where also the 32 pixel icon.
So I added the two files orbeon-icon-32.ico and orbeon-icon-32.png and than also IE was showing our icon.
