So if I try to start my server I get the error
Could not find abstract-1.0.0 in any of the sources
Try running bundle install.
I run that and I get
Using abstract (1.0.0)
Furthermore running a bundle show abstract gives me the correct path for the gem. That path is also referenced in gem env.
I'm really not sure how it can't be found...
You might have conflicting installations of ruby. One with the proper gem which you are using in the shell but one the server is using which doesn't have it installed properly.
I would check your environment variables to see if there is a conflict.
This can also happen if you are using RVM and have switched to a different version/gemset than the default one.
What command are you using to start the server?
If rails server is what is giving you the error, I recommend trying: bundle exec rails server
If that's not the issue, another question that might help troubleshoot; are you using rvm? What does rvm info give you?

I'm trying to create my first rails app. I'm on a Macbook Pro, so macOS.
I've been following this guide setting up rbenv, rails etc.

Then I'm following a crash course on YouTube. In the terminal I try to create a new rails app
rails new foodlog
It starts to set up in the folder I made for it, but the following happens during setup

It is likely that you need to grand executable permissions for all parent directories and write permissions for

This error continues repeating the same thing with things such as "strscan".
Then after it says

I've tried looking online, coming across similar but not exact issues. For example, one solution suggested doing bundle install in this directory, versus where the guide says do it in the home directory. So I do that and get
Bundle complete! 0 gemfile dependencies, 1 gem now installed.
Still doesn't do anything. I think the main culprit is the permissions error it mentions above? This is my first time trying to really do any development on the macOS and I'm sure there's just a misunderstanding somewhere regarding permissions, so if anyone can help that would be appreciated!

Your question does not mention, so I think you might have missed this suggestion. Make sure all directories have the executable permission
Running a cron job via Whenever gem where rake "ts:index" is set to run at a certain frequency, the sphinx_index.log is returning an odd error (the only info in the log):
Your Ruby version is 1.9.3, but your Gemfile specified 2.2.3
if bundle exec rake ts:rebuild is run on the server manually, the process executes properly. (I have yet to test whether the indexing does actually occur and picks up changes). The Ubuntu server does have 2.2.3 installed, though it may have had 1.9.3 natively installed.
Why is this occurring and what is its consequence?
It sounds like cron isn't picking up your preferred Ruby version. If you're using RVM, then https://stackoverflow.com/a/24092907/54500 might be helpful? I'm not sure what's needed for other Ruby version managers.

Ben Scheirman's solution works as described for applications using the whenever gem. To use the proper ruby versions, rbenv's shims folder needs to be declared to the PATH.
I'm trying to initialize a new rails app on windows, and running rails new <appname> generates everything up to vendor/assets/stylesheets/.keep, but when bundle install is run, rails generates this error:
Checksum of /versions does not match the checksum provided by server! Something is wrong.
I'm not sure what's causing this, as I've done nothing to rails itself. Any help is appreciated.
Edit: If it's an error caused by windows being finicky, I have the option of moving to Linux, but I'd like to know what's wrong first.
I had the same issue using windows, and was able to solve it by uninstalling bundler and installing an older version.
rails new <appname>
gem uninstall bundler
gem install bundler -v 1.9
cd <appname>
bundle install
That did it for me!
In my case there was a *.pre.1 version and I chose to uninstall that particular version and then "bundle install" worked.
Try removing your ruby cache folder and then try again. So for example if you are on Linux machine and you are using rbenv and say ruby 2.1.5 folder. Your path would be similar to something like (Not sure where on windows ruby is stored):
~/.rbenv/versions/2.1.5/lib/ruby/gems/2.1.0/cache/
Removing this folder and trying bundle install again should resolve the issue.
It will be great, if you move to a Linux machine.
On windows it's a hell to pay in my 5 years of experience what i have learned is not to mess with (ror) or (rs) in windows. here's a cheeky thing you can do an easy way. I believe you are using github as repo, as a editor you are using sublime if thats is a case open your gemfile you will see check the image or
try to clear cache on your server or update the gems.
I had this same exact error and solved it the following way. I think you are missing the ruby DevKit being installed.
Go here http://rubyinstaller.org/downloads/ and download/install the latest 32-bit Ruby version (as of writing this 2.2.4, you will need it for the web-console gem)
Make sure to add your ruby\bin folder to your environmental path variable
The trick is hidden near the bottom-left of the same page under the "Development Kit" section. You need to download and extract the right one into a permanent location (as of writing this for 32-bit - DevKit-mingw64-32-4.7.2-20130224-1151-sfx.exe)
After extracting the files, go into the main directory and run "ruby dk.rb init" followed by "ruby dk.rb install" (More information can be found here
That fixed it for me and i can now fully install with no checksum issues
This problem began when i tried to run my app. I wrote rails s and the console said me Could not find sdoc-0.4.1 in any of the sources Run bundle install to install missing gems. Then i wrote bundle install and the message that appeared was Checksum of /versions does not match the checksum provided by server! Something is wrong.
I solve this problem following this steps:
Wrote bundle install
The console said me Could not find sdoc-0.4.1 in any of the sources
Then i reinstalled this gem with gem install sdoc -v 0.4.1
I tried again to write rails s and it's was solved.

I am super, super new at programming and I have been trying to get everything set-up on my computer. I have installed RailsInstaller, go to >railsinstaller_demo, and type in rails s. I get the following error though could not find gem 'uglifier <>= 1.0.3> x86-mingw32'
I looked through the forum and found how to do a gem list and i noticed it was not there. I then went to gembundler and ran $ gem install bundler. I tried again but it did not work.
I am sure the answer is on this site, but i am so new that i see all these lines of code I actually have no idea where to type it in.. I am running Windows 7.

Have you gone to the $ railsinstaller_demo directory and run the bundle install command? This will install the gem dependencies for the application; you will not be able to run the server until you've bundled the gems. Additionally, if you're still having issues with the uglifier gem, go ahead and remove the line in the Gemfile and then run bundle install

I am new to Ruby on Rails and am following a tutorial to create a class project.
I can generate a new rails project with
$ rails project
The problem Im having is when I try to start my server, It will generate a project called server:
$ rails server
or
$ rails s
I figured out that I need to install/update rails to 3.0.3 to use this command every time I open terminal. I find myself having to install gems(bundle, etc) every time I need to work on my project.
Is there anyway to save this terminal session or profile for later use?
Is it user error?
Im new to Rails and about the same with terminal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have resorted to leaving my computer and terminal open for about a week...
Welcome on board! - You'll have fun, I found setting up the environment the most difficult thing.
in rails 2 you start the server with ruby script/server.
to upgrade to rails 3 try gem install rails -v=3.0.4
I put the version but it's not a mandatory option.
To uninstall a gem (as rails is) is gem uninstall gemname -v=x.x.x. -
gem list will tell you the version of each gem.
I hope you've got rvm, if not I strongly sugget you to install it, this will allow you not only to use different versions of ruby but also to set different gemsets, therefor one each project, you'll find it useful.
Once in rails 3 you can use bundler, have a look at this episode of railscasts, by the way this is a very good site, but you may know it already.

I don't know the behavior you're describing, looks like something is wrong with your environment, but I need to know if you have rvm to solve this, if so try rvm list and rvm gemset, With the first you get the list of installed ruby, you can switch between them with rvm 1.9.2 i.e. and rvm 1.9.2#gemdirname with the gemdir coming from the second list. You should find your configuration in one of those list.
