I would like to be able to target iOS4 and iOS5 on the same Mac. Specifically, I have a need to test web apps in both versions of the simulator. I am a registered iOS developer but can't see where to download the earlier SDK in the iOS dev centre. Host OS is Snow Leopard 10.6.8
You can install iOS 5 and set the development target for whichever version you wish to test. Simulators for 4 & 5 will be included.
See Deployment Target in the Project & Targets.
You can do this in XCode Preferences -> Downloads -> Components. The older version of the simulator will be downloaded and installed, then available in the Simulator Menu Under Hardware -> Version

I have made a project in Xcode and copied the project to another system. When I opened the project on the other system, there was no option to select a Simulator device (only real Device). How can i resolve this issue?
Changing deployment target from 4.3 to 6 solved this issue, but if you still have problem go to project -> Build setting and see this if you have selected iOS because on OS X it will not show simulators
Here is your solution (if you haven't found already :)
Under Your project Build Settings
select Deployment section.
change iOS Deployment Target to a version iOS 5.0 or less.
now you can go ahead and change the deployment target from device to simulator!
In my case the deployment target was set to version 5.1 and I still am running snow leopard OS with appropriate JARS copied from xCode 4.3 to make it run with a device running iOS 5.1. However, my simulators do not yet support version 5.1 so till I changed the deployment target to lower version e.g. 5.0 or 4.2 it won't let me run on simulator.
I updated my XCODE version to 6.0.1 from 5.1.1 but when i try to install iOS simulator 6 , i cant find it in XCODE -> Preferences -> Downloads option ...
My project needs iOS 6 environment
Can anyone please suggest a way to install it or get back to older version.
Thanks in Advance .
Xcode 6 contains CoreSimulator. CoreSimulator supports the iOS 7.0 and later simulator runtimes.
The iOS 7.0 simulator runtime is not supported on OS X Yosemite.
If you are on OS X Mavericks, you can install 7.0 or later.
If you are on OS X Yosemite, you can install 7.1 or later.
If you need the iOS 6 simulator runtime, you should install Xcode 5.1 (on Mavericks) and use it for testing your projects in the iOS 6 runtime. You can install both versions of Xcode simultaneously.
No, you can't install that simulator in Xcode 6.0.1. You can download Xcode 5.1.1 from the iOS Developer Center: https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action?name=Xcode
If that link doesn't work login to the dev center and under the downloads section click "Looking for an older version of Xcode?"
In the search box type "Xcode 5.1.1" and filter your Categories to Developer Tools:
I recently made a project using XCode 4.5.1 on iOS 10.8.
I want to run this project on a different computer using XCode 4.4.1 on iOS 10.7.5.
It is currently giving me the error:
XCode cannot run using the selected device.
No provisioned iOS devices are available with a compatible iOS version. Connect an iOS device with a recent enough version of iOS to run your application or choose an iOS simulator as the destination.
Is there a way to open the project on the other computer without having to redo all the delegations and such?
I have tried turning off AutoLayout and running it on the iOS 10.7.5 computer and it is still giving the same error.
Thanks!
Change the deployment target to the ios version you want to run the project on.
I recently upgrade iPad to iOS 5.1.1. Organizer prompted "the Xcode can not find the software and image to the install this version."
"Could not support development."
The Xcode 4.2 supports up to SDK 5.0.
The Xcode 4.3.3 supports up to the SDK 5.1, but does not support SDK 5.1.1, Is that right?
So there is no way to test on 5.1.1 device, isn't it?
p.s.
I am working on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Xcode 4.2. According to this method I has copied "5.1 (9B176)" to the corresponding folder.
For testing on iOS 5.1 you need Mac OS 10.7 Lion and Xcode 4.3. iOS 5.1 support is only available with Xcode 4.3 so you cannot test on a 5.1 device using earlier versions.
SugarMEmE, just a thought, since u need to copy it manually, u need standalone iOS5.1.1sdk. I checked Xcodes4.2.x up to Xcode4.5, they do not have iOS5.1.1, just 5.1 and then 6.0. No intermediates. So if somebody has a Lion w Xcode4.2 or higher, that can download those intermediates automatically, you technically just could copy it from there.
Hei, just did it. You need to find a file iPad1,1_5.1.1_9B206_restore.ipsw say here: http://mytopfiles.com/other/file/iPad1,1_5-1-1_9B206_Restore/589434.htm
It was on my other Mac (that has Lion and Xcode 4.3) in Library\iTunes\iPad Software Updates\
I just copied it on my Mac (Snow Leopard w Xcode4.2) in the same Library\iTunes\iPad Software Updates.
Image immediately showed up in Xcode Organizer Library Software Images.
And right away I was able to build on my iPad1 with iOS5.1.1
Logically, if you need it for iPad2 you would look for iPad2,1_5.1.1_9B206_restore.ipsw http://mytopfiles.com/other/file/iPad2,1_5-1-1_9B206_Restore/589852.htm etc, I guess.

PS after all, u do not need to pay for upgrade to Lion yet.
You can generally link to the DeviceSupport folder for a similar OS version.
I just did this for 5.1.1 and it worked:
sudo ln -s 5.1 /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/5.1.1
I just upgrade my Xcode to 4.2 because I upgraded my MacOS to Lion.
In this version of Xcode. only includes SDK 4.3, I can set the Deploy Target to 4.0 or other lower version, but different from old Xcode, I can't launched Simulators for lower SDKs.
I also tried download & install lower SDKs from old Xcode package, but seems it doesn't works.
So, in this situation, how I can publish app to support lower SDK devices?
THX~
Try opening XCode preferences, go to Downloads, and install the various debugging support options that are present.
